I read in Jordan Peterson's book 12 Rules for Life, that Lucifer is the personification of reason, he argues that each angel is supposed to represent a feature that humans can have and that Lucifer is the angel of reason. I think this works well with how his name can be translated to the light bringer ( since knowledge and science can bring light on the darkness of the unknown ) and how people that are smart usually end up being arrogant...

The story of lucifer tells us about the pitfalls of Ego. Once the Ego takes control, then we have a tendency to fall from the graces of family and friend.
