Dany's biggest lesson will happen when she connects the dots between the Valyrian Empire, modern slavery in Essos, the Dothraki and the cities who thrive on owning slaves. To me, one of the ways she can right the wrongs committed by her ancestors, is to understand that a good and just queen must protect her subjects from harm, first and foremost. She will do this by not becoming a queen, but by burning the Others and ending the cycle of summer and winter. I just started this video, but you can't imagine how grateful I am for stumbling upon it. It gives me a bit of solace to know that there are still people who believe she will not become a tyrant.

Do we kniw if Rhaegar listened to Baristan at all? He had no prior military victories. Yet he acted so smug. With Jaime he is sure he will get back. Also Jaime was just a kid back then. He listened to no one's council as far as we know, andsurprise surprise he lost. She has already proven herself to be so much better battle commander and strategist than Rhaegar. She listens to council, she knows how to behave in front of enemies or potential partners, she is actively asking them to teach her important military strategies (We know this since Baristan taught her how to count the numbers of enemy forces), she know to send out scouts, and Dothraki scouts at all, she knows the strengths and weaknesses of each different section of her army

Drogon flew over Sir Jorah and Tyrion and I'm pretty sure it was because he sensed/smelled(?) Targaryen blood nearby. There were rumors that King Aerys lusted after Tyrion's mother and in the books, there were questions about Tyrion's parentage. Targaryens are also known to produce monstrous looking babies that are miscarried or usually die soon after birth. I hope GRRM makes this happen and Tyrion will finally get to ride a dragon. This is why I feel like Dany won't be involved with the Aegon-JonCon plot. I feel like it would be way too much to cram into the last two books to have her be apart of both that plotline and this one. "This is how it was meant to be. The other was a nightmare, and I have only now awakened." sounds like her realizing her "true" purpose, which does not involve chasing the Iron Throne.
@hypatiakovalevskayasklodow91954 жыл бұрын
Eva Pomerleau Well based on the amount of things he has to un-knot and the fact that he is planning two books, and also based on the names, seems like the battle for the dawn will be the last book. But I still don't get why people think Dany would be so keen on being against baby Aegon. Pretender or not, she always wanted a home and a family, we know how kind of a person she is, for her first reaction only makes sense that she would be excited that maybe she has some remaining family. And if it happens that the dragons don't like him, and she knows how Rhaegar and Vyseris looked liked and Jon Com says baby Aegon looks like Rhaegar, she will just know.

@@hypatiakovalevskayasklodow9195 Though I do agree with you on Dany's side of things (she would love to have some family remaining), I'm inclined to think that Young Griff/F'Aegon will be his own undoing. He will either push Dany towards the Throne (let's not forget that, the Throne is his aim) and get pushe dback, because Dany knows that there's no point in fighting for the Throne if they all end up frozen and soulless but not quite dead ebough, or... he goes rogue on her, tries to take one of the dragons and gets either turned into barbecue or maimed to the point of being useless. Not to mention the issue of F'Aegon (or actual Aegon, though I doubt) having a better claim to Throne than Dany's, and that being potential divisiveness to the power of ten, when they really have to stick together. Dany's people, even if not Dany herself, may be frankly hostile to Young Griff/F'Aegon/ Aegon. The boy was raised to rule, unlike Dany, and is entitled in a way that may break him (or I got that feeling from him in the books).
@hypatiakovalevskayasklodow91954 жыл бұрын
@@pipitameruje The original plan was to join Daenerys. His purpose is the throne, but the idea was to conquer something and not come to his aunt a beggar. The ultimate goal is to be together. And Dany actually has a thought where she thinks how she would be closer in age to Rhaegar's son and probably would have married him and not Vyserys. Aegon was raised to think of the people, as Varys says they raised him to believe rulling is a responsibility not just something to be entitled to. When he finds out about the threat of the Others, you really think he will not join the fight? And it doesn't really matter who has a better claim when 1 - most likely they'll both die in the battle for the dawn and 2 - even if they don't, they can rule Westeros together. Targs marry Targs, remember? The claim is not an issue. And why would Dany's people go against Dany's will? That's a lot of mays and mights and potential And even if he wasn't Rhaegar's son (which I doubt) he obviously has some dragon blood. Enough to look like Rhaegar to Jon Con, dude who is in love with him for the past at least two decades. If dragons liked brown ben plum with his "drop of dragon's blood" and Dany is already looking for the two other heads of the dragon, why would there be issues?
@pipitameruje4 жыл бұрын
@@hypatiakovalevskayasklodow9195 I do think F'Aegon (I don't think he's truly Aegon, but I could be wrong) has not been exposed to enough "magical weirdness", so to say, to take the Others seriously. Not until some real shit happens and he is forced to face the reality of White Walkers and wights being more than old fairytales. I think he'll stick to conquering more of Westeros, until he has to go North to meet Dany, and only then eventually join the fight. The claim is not a finality issue, it's a "getting there" issue. Targs marry Targs, but not often actually share the crown and the power (of course Dany and Aegon could). And, as I said, it's each of their closest people that I see being an issue, not Dany and F'Aegon per se. Dany has an entourage and F'Aegon has another. They both have people in those groups vying for certain positions and banking on them becoming rulers. From the moment you get two Targaryen claims to the Throne, every position becames something to fight over for their entourages. Even if it's no matter because they all die in the Battle for Dawn, up until the battle it will be a source of conflict. F'Aegon looks Valyrian, that's not something exclusive to Targaryens in Westeros, let alone when you're dealing with a kid that was raised in Essos. He could just be a Valyrian looking kid, born in Essos, raised from the crib to play Aegon. I realise that could be quite the long shot, since we are dealing with Connington and I don't see the man willingly creating a F'Aegon (especially considering his feelings towards Rhaegar), but he was exhiled well before the Sack of King's Landing, he couldn't have taken Aegon with him. He could have later been presented with a Valyrian looking baby and told he was Rhaegar's son, and used in this plot through his undying loyalty (and love). Also, the dragons tolerating people and letting them actually ride them are very different things. And I do believe the Aegon vs F'Aegon question will be answered through those dragons, as will the matter of the other hidden Targaryens - Jon and Tyrion being the most popular candidates. A lots of mays and mights and potential is what we all have until we get the books. That's no argument, for or against anything. We can theorise and discuss hints and share opinions and what not, but all we have, so far, is mays and mights and potential.

If Martin is a good writer, which he is, there are only so many sensible endings he could come up with for the series. Becoming Mad Queen doesn't feel like a sensible ending. Maybe sacrificing herself to destroy the Others, in that way both fire and ice would die out. It would be sad but if written well I think it could be accepted. I still want Dany to live to the end of her days obviously, but not every hero gets to do that. Some die in a blaze of heroic glory and we love them all the more for it.

Interesting the unsullid killing a baby just like the Others do (or what ever they do with the babys, transform them into a new Other). The unsullid are also castrated and can't reproduce by themselves. The masters need new human sacrifices in order to make more.

We usually talk about the non-magical people as "stand-ins" for the magical ones (kingsguard for Others, unsullied for wights) because the magical ones are the endgame Big Bads, but from a literary perspective, it's really the other way around. Our author is expressing his anti-slavery morals, and in that way, the magical Big Bads are stand-ins for real-world non-magical oppressors.

Also dragonfire is magical in the first place, since valyrian steel is produced thx to it, so it's illogical that dragonfire doesn't have any effect on the others as portrayed in the show

I believe the dragons were born to fight against the army of the dead and somehow her actions will lead her to that very end, if she'll dye or stay alive I can't tell but I believe she will feel responsible for dealing with this enemy . She already know how sad and lonely is to be a ruler, she's always working to find a common ground between the slaves , masters and her own will so I don't think she's mad, there's a point were she says she would give it all up to be with Daario if she could.

If Dany still kills everyone in King's Landing, maybe she has no choice. Maybe, to make sure she kills a pervasive infestation of wights, she must kill the living, dying, and dead of King's Landing in a dragon equivalent of a drone strike.

Daenerys fate is to end her valyrian ancestry's wrongs, she will burn the slave trade away. And of course, she will be conflicted with her desire to conquer Westeros and her desire to do what is right. But after realizing that "where the dragons danced, people died" she will do whats right and go north.

A couple of reasons why I think this theory is fundamentally correct: 1) Zombies have always been referred to as the undead condition, one both in counterposition to life and death. It is life, without any of its good qualities. Without its freedom. Now, this of course is a metaphor for slavery, for the dehumanizing aspects of bondage. And this is a fact since such myths appear in culture and religions that have endured subjugation and slavery. Think about hoodoo and zombies. Wights are effectively the Slaves of the Others. What is important here is that some myths show them suffering internally, imprisoned: as a real alive person would be. I do not think the wights feel like they belong, like they fit in. We do not know if their souls are caged in there, somewhere, wailing 1.1) Another interesting aspect about this is the slaves' condition "uprootedness", that is a lack of foundation, not belonging to a place. That is related, of course, to the fact that slaves were bought or subdued and brought to places were they didn't belong. This brings about a very particular form of syncretism, as can be seen again with hoodoo, a practice that combines Christianity with Yoruba. And there are parallels to this in A Song of Ice and Fire. Think of the huge syncretism that is the cult of the Faceless Men, former slaves, to the One God with many faces. And also the wights have an even greater syncretism: all manner of races of Men, plus Sentient Creatures and even Animals coexist there, not as equals as such, but serving the same Masters, equal only in how much from their concrete freedom (their mode of life) has been taken from them. As the Unsullied, their very names have been taken away, and it is for them to reclaim it. 1.2) Another related notion is that in ASOIAF, both resurrection and deathlessness are de-humanizing. True freedom requires concrete boundaries, as boundlessness is also a lack of definition. Resurrections in the R'hllor manner, as in Beric Dondarrion, chip away a little piece of he who comes back. And Lady Stoneheart is an even more traditional ghost: only coming back for haunting, trapped in this realm, only set on one particular ambition. The same happens for deathlessness: think of the coldness of the Undying Ones, completely analogous to the Others. 2) Finally, Dragons in ASOIAF are a symbol of concrete freedom, through flight of course. But also through their capacity for struggle, for war, and finally their independence, which is not the same as loneliness. And riding them then is riding such freedom. Using them for slavery and conquering, for the subjugation of the Many by the Few, is something that does happen, but in the end it limits the freedom of those involved: the Masters are bound to their Master condition, and they will not release it but with struggle (with violence), and the Slaves are denied all freedom, and can only win any through violence, whilst keeping their humanity saved from the inhuman aspects of slavery. (I am thinking here of a simplified version of Hegel's master-slave dialectic, and the parallels with his philosophy of history, about the concrete development of freedom in History). Dany, by contrast to her Valyrian ancestors, uses her Dragons, her power, her freedom, to break the chains, to free those who have been subdued. And she also uses it, though not mistakenly, to oppose those who would oppose such acts. She effectively acts as a progressive figure bringing about freedom to all - with its hardships, mind you, as can be seen in the conflicts that happen in Slavers' Bay, with both masters and slaves adjusting to the new reality. 3) I particularly appreciate the detail of the "melting", rather than "burning". Ice is transparent, and heat can burn it away. The metaphor is that of a mirage, of a paper tiger. Dragonfire may be the solution that Dany, as a slayer of lies, shows to the wights, to the thralls of death: that Masters are in the end impotent, toothless, as much as the Unsullied do, tearing them down but only after being given a choice, freedom. A choice for which of course slaying the Masters was the only option. Dany would be more of a liberator than a conqueror. In conclusion, we do not know how the wights will go, but the Lord of the Rings idea of the mere defeat of Sauron, and the destruction of Barad-dûr and the orcs and all of Mordor with it, does not appeal to George R R Martin. In this sense, perhaps after the melting of the Masters the wights undeadness is reversed, their wounds transformed into their release, the Gift of death. And freedom is given: some may die happy, some may die very scarily. And perhaps as the Others are being melted away, their grasp on the wights is loosened, and some of them may fight their Old Masters one last time.

great comments Jose, I enjoyed reading them! It's wonderful how tight the parallels are between this most magical of mysteries (wights and Others and what they want / how to resolve their conflict) and the major themes of the books. It's masterful, and there are many layers to it, some of which you've unpacked here. I really love how Dany encourages the unsullied to take their own names... it's such a clear symbol of regaining identity. Cheers Jose

well yes, or I suppose another way to say it is that the custom may have originated with Nissa Nissa having to "bear her breast" for Lightbringer.
