That refrigerator was way ahead of its time. I kind of want one now! XD

Actually, you can buy a Frigidaire french door refrigerator that has the drawer like this refrigerator does. Frigidaire today are the decedents of Westinghouse appliances. Unfortunately, it is expensive and unreliable, just as the this one back then probably was.

This is very much like my 2018 LG fridge with the middle flex drawer that can be used as either freezer space or fridge space. I actually prefer the Westinghouse drawer because it stands open by itself. Wish they still made this model. I have a feeling if I had bought it in 1960 it would still be running….unlike todays junkie appliances.

Say! That's radical of Lucy wearing a pants suit back in that era, as such attire was acceptable around the house, or casual outdoors like at a picnic; but to wear that as regular wear as in this setting? Radical, indeed! For that era where dresses and skirts were the everyday wear for women in the US.
@howtubeable2 жыл бұрын
Good observation. Lucy wore a pants suit on TV in an era where most working women were required to wear dresses and heels to the workplace.

Funny that center-drawer refrigerators are now top-of-the-line more than 60 years after this commercial was filmed

There has been NO advance in appliances since then, they are crappier now.

At the time, their hour-long specials were presented as "THE WESTINGHOUSE LUCILLE BALL-DESI ARNAZ SHOW" (alternating with "WESTINGHOUSE DESILU PLAYHOUSE"); they weren't retitled "THE LUCY-DESI COMEDY HOUR" until repeats began in the summer of 1962. Betty Furness continued to represent Westinghouse in their commercials, through 1960.

Frost free in 1960's wow didn't think they had that kind of technology back then!
@gcfifthgear2 жыл бұрын
Westinghouse had the first frost-free refrigerators as far back in the 1950s. In the later I Love Lucy episodes, you can see the words "Frost-Free" on the door in the kitchen scenes

So sad. At least they worked together for a long time for 20 yrs in movies & TV. And that they saw each other a lot til Desi died. They are together in heaven now.

What really killed her voice was doing " Wildcat" on stage in 1961,without any vocal training for the stage. She literally screamed every night.
@moccalou2 жыл бұрын
@@0424mjm Agreed. I always wondered why her voice was so drastically different in the 60s than the 50s and then I learned of Wildcat. Every once in awhile though she'd have a really good day with her voice. Watch the episode of The Lucy Show called Lucy the Disc Jockey. It's from 1965. On that one you can close your eyes and hear Lucy Ricardo instead of Lucy Carmichael.

My friend's mom- Mrs Vrame had one of these. It was awesome. I used to like to click the foot pedal, & watch the freezer door open. I wonder how much it cost in 1960?

I really HATE those hairstyles of he 1950s. They weren't flattering to women in any shape or form. Do you know how long it was before I realized that Lucille Ball was pretty, and she is a beautiful absolutely gorgeous woman, but that hairstyle did nothing for her.
@moccalou2 жыл бұрын
It was actually on purpose. She knew she was beautiful but she didn't want to be one of those glamorous Hollywood types anymore. She wanted to be funny and liked for just her humor. That's also why she dyed her hair red in the '40s because all the beauties at the time were blondes. She was a blonde for a little while in the '30s while doing movies even though her roots were brown. Of course you couldn't really tell in the black and white days, but just like Hollywood now, they had a huge image outside of their work too.
