I loved this movie. I loved her in this movie. If you read the book Lucille plays Mame more true to character... she was not supposed to be a “knock out singer.” Her acting was awesome. Her dancing was great too... the chemistry between her and Robert Preston is so sweet. Lucille was a luck lady to have a chance to have Robert Preston holding, dancing, and singing with her. Robert Preston could have sung to me like that anytime.

Finally! Finally! I have found a kindred spirit who understands how wonderful Lucille Ball's performance is - and the whole movie.

so you get a legend in an interview and the first thing you talk about it the "movie drags after the Mame number." Oh Dear Lord. What a putz.

I hated this movie and Lucy’s performance was painful but I agree with you that this interviewer was a total schmuck for doing that. I bet he got an earful afterwards.

Lucy seems remarkably relaxed here. Nice to see. :)

When Lucille was tired, her left eye drooped somewhat; it's evident here.

Interesting observation. Though I think she got an eye lid lift in the late 60s. And even here she is wearing the tape that pulls her eyes & face back.

If you can’t say something nice…. Save your negative comments for the director and producer. Very low class to put Lucy on the spot like that. Love ❤ Lucy!

Im a big fan of Miss Ball but her incarnation of Mame and the film itself was a disaster. Nothing can top Rosalind Russell in the 1958 film, Mame. And Coral Browne as her best friend Vera.

IF Lucy was 15 years younger, she would have been terrific as Mame

She was every bit as good as Rosalind Russell or Angela Lansbury. Better, actually. Lansbury sings better, but she doesn't dance as well. Neither is as pretty.
