The Carol Burnett Show + The Mary Tyler Moore Show meant so much to me as a young girl. In the early late 60s, early 70s my mother was a rare young woman. She had her baby at 19 and was divorced by 21, so she was a single mother when that was highly unusual. She worked at night becuz that’s where the money was for a young woman then (she was a Playboy Bunny, back when that was a legitimate (+ hard) job - a cocktail waitress + bartender at the Club), and child support was a vague notion + dream, becuz there was so little need for it. So I spent most of my nights alone in an apt, watching TV shows and the absolute highlight of my week was MTM (who looked a lot like my mom at the time), and Carol Burnett. She made me laugh + feel happy when I was lonely, sad + sometimes (but rarely) scared. Thank you, Carol (and Mare).

Love Lucille ball. Desi is underrated for his acting, producing, everything because of their relationship. But my word, if you ever watch the episodes of I love lucy , his acting is top. One of My favorites is the first few minutes of Lucy cries wolf. His head shake gets me every time. Also love his reaction when lucy meets bill Holden. When he peers through in between them in that camera shot, hilarious .
@LJ-ht4zs2 ай бұрын
Also, Lucy was underrated in how knew the people she wanted to work with her - Gale Gordon etc. and writers that wrote for her radio show Jess Oppenheimer, Madalyn Pugh, Bob Carroll Jr. - she had worked with Karl Freund in movies and suggested him to Desi that he was the right cameraman; also Bill Frawley, whom she knew from film, called her about being on the show. She set him up to talk to Desi. When she was on her own - they said she knew everything -camera lighting, she could direct, produce -- everything. She also was doing all that, raising her two children, and later she bought Desi out from Desilu Studios Inc. (which was losing money at that time, due to his drinking, Desi was making bad decisions.) So she was even doing more than Desi at that time, acting in, producing, head of Desilu Studio and raising two children. I saw a piece of her rehearsing and directing etc. what an incredible, knowledgeable person. She did not have her hair done, no makeup, just really into it - loved, wished they filmed more of that behind the scenes.
@LJ-ht4zs2 ай бұрын
These two fabulous people Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz came together for the most wonderful sitcom ever - both with major talents and appreciation for each other - finally to round out the Fabulous Four was Vivian Vance and Wm Frawley. (I always called them that) and when the Beatles came on the scene afterwards they were called The Fabulous Four - I should have trademarked the name.

I mean who's going to remember most TikTokers that are big now in 50+ years? Their platform won't be around by then. But its almost for sure that TVs will be around in some form. So unless these TikTokers manage to make the jump to TV or movies, their legacy will be gone. A flash in the pan.
