Dumbledore states that Lucius didn't know that the diary held a piece of Voldemorts soul. He only knew that the diary would reopen the Chamber of secrets. And Lucius discarded the diary because he wanted to save him self in case of investigation. Please excuse any faults in grammar and/or spelling.

RandomUploads2017 Lucius’s will to fight for Voldemort was all but gone by the time of the Battle of Hogwarts, and by the second half of the battle he literally wasn’t even trying to fight because he and Narcissa were focused solely on finding Draco and getting him to safety. So for Arthur to take Lucius down at that point in time wouldn’t have been nearly as satisfying as you would think.

I think you're overestimating the order of the phoenix members a bit. In the order, Dumbledore was clearly the best duelist, but with the remaining members there are far batter duelists than Arthur and Hermione (e.g. Moody, Kingsley, Sirius, Lupin, Snape, McGonagall, Harry etc etc). Seeing as the death eaters and the order were fairly even, there's no way that their second in command (Bellatrix and Lucius at one point) would struggle with average ranked members of the order. Totally different class of duelists.

4.5 magical knowledge for Arthur who fucking summoned Chairs nonverbally while in tremendous pain from Naginis pison? Bro that was some McGonnegall level shit he pulled and 4.5/5 there? Arthur didn´t do flashy explosives but his magical handiwork would baffle most wizards. That man showed expert level transfiguration skills and about his enchanter abilities we do not need to talk. Ford Anglia, Sirius Bike, Fidelius charm! i think overall power and magical knowledge are Arthurs points. His demonstrations weren´t as flashy as other characters but if you know nonverbal magic, which he and Molly did CASUALLY even with highest level spells, he pulled some crazy shit. like easily fixing dudleys tongue without knowing what was in fred and georges toffees. He´s not a leader like lucius and his knowledge about arts should resume to: stay the fuck away from it, but i feel like Arthur, if he and lucius had it out, would annihilate Lucius. Remember Lucius and Bellatrix fought against Harry and sirius together. and Lucius got disarmed. Remember Harry in that battle while skilled for a fifteen year old, was fodder. Voldemorts most powerful servant was fighting alongside him and he got done in. they were more or less only fighting sirius. Harry wouldn´t have done jack if Lucius just kept an eye on him. Okay admitted Sirius WAS strong and ridiculously fast, it said in the book HARRYS eyes could not follow him. and if we have one character with eyes adjusted to speedy movement it is harry, but still it was him and Bellatrix fighting Sirius. Harry should be just extra luggage on Sirius part, and not contribute to the fight at all, again given the speed difference between harry and Sirius and Bellatrix being as good as him or stronger. Probably stronger. means Lucius either was arrogant and didn´t see Harrys a thread at all and let his guard down, a mistake Lucius would repeat against Arthur for sure. or he just got rusty over the years he entirely focussed on building his business and getting his hands clean. That is what i think. Lucius from the first wizarding war is an entirely different foe than Lucius from the second war.

Doing well in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries isn't much of an accomplishment, given that Dumbledore's army was a group of 14-15 yr olds against a group of grown, far-more experienced death eaters. And that 2-on-2 of Bellatrix+Lucius vs. Sirius+Harry is definitely not a good example of Lucius' abilities. Arthur is very powerful; charming muggle technology, being a member of the Order, surviving Nagini's attack, raising Fred&George, using nonverbal magic so often in daily life (he and Molly didn't have a House Elf to take care of the family and house), etc. Lucius was a coward, attacking children. So what Lucius was able to stop Bellatrix from attacking Harry--Molly killed Bellatrix and Harry even got Bellatrix with the cruciatus curse (although, he didn't know how to use it, and thus it didn't do much). I'm pretty sure that Arthur, and most Order members, could have taken Lucius 1-on-1.

However, there is one more factor I think is often overlooked and is possibly the greatest game changer: What drives them to fight. Lucius fights for his master and Arthur fights for those he love. But even Lucius's devotion to Voldemort is conflicted by the genuine love for his family, while Arthur never had that inhibition and his family had always been his strength.

I agree with the overall verdict. Well made video and I like your formatting. I would just say that in terms of magical knowledge I would say Lucius has a more practical knowledge of magic in terms of dueling. Normal house hold charms I don't think are going to be the factor in a duel. I believe Lucius knows more curses and hexes being a death eater that would be more applicable to a duel.

I agree that Lucius Malfoy would have edged out Arthur, but for different reasons. I think they they are probably equal in power. However, with Malloy’s family library at his disposal and likely tutelage or at least passed on knowledge from Voldemort, I think he would edge out Arthur in magical knowledge. Having those kind of resources, he would have more knowledge of the Dark Arts. I think Arthur is great at Defense, but I think Malfoy would eventually throw some kind of very obscure spell at him he wouldn’t know.

initially I underestimated Arthur in this head-to-head, but after considering his career, I can see that Arthur would have a very deep knowledge of magic, particularly the dark curses he would encounter, and counter, placed on artifacts. And given the unsavory sorts he would probably encounter during raids and such, he probably did have a great level of experience in dueling. I guess deflecting Bellatrix's curse is a good display of power, but I don't think being close to Voldemort makes him powerful. I think Voldemort liked Lucius because of his money, and possibly his loyalty. Also, I rather think that Voldemort would be greedy with his knowledge, and not teach Lucius. Say what you will about the Malfoys (and there’s certainly a LOT to say), but their primary redeeming trait is that they love each other no matter what and will always prioritize their family’s wellbeing (especially Draco’s) over everything else. Having said that, though, it would certainly be interesting to see a full-blown family feud between the Weasleys and the Malfoys in which each casualty/injury on either side soon drives the other family members to save or avenge them. 👍😁 _*At least in the books. In Deathly Hallows, for instance, the book has Lucius very clearly begging Voldemort to let him find Draco and get him to safety during the ceasefire at Hogwarts, followed by both Lucius and Narcissa being seen running through the battlefield screaming for Draco and not even attempting to fight; the movie (Part 2, to be exact) downplays Lucius’ begging on Draco’s behalf to such a degree that Draco isn’t even mentioned in that scene, and replaces Lucius and Narcissa running desperately through the war zone in search of Draco with the two of them just standing there telling Draco to come to them and Draco just quietly walking toward them. Lucius in particular was made out to look worse in the movies than he was in the books, mainly because Jason Isaacs (Lucius’ actor) wanted to garner more sympathy for Draco by making Lucius more of a bully toward him, but I digress._

@@LittleMissRequiem oh really? i didn't know about the info from the book. i still haven't read the books because i'm darn lazy, but i'll start reading them today! damn it! i have to! even so, only from the movies, the Malfoy's, especially Lucius have always been favouurites of mine. i absolutely love how Lucius looks and speaks- (makes me think of one of those anime wariors, also his wand is the most beautiful of all- shows his noble descent) then, seeing him so changed Deathly Hollows 1, so afraid of Vold, then V humiliates him by breaking his wand, it's a really sad moment. also one can clearly see in the movie that Narcissa loves her family very much. still it is very interesting to find out more. i must start those books.

I’d recommend Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows for the best Malfoy family moments, and for Lucius in particular I’d also recommend looking into the book version of the Quidditch World Cup scene (which was very different from the movie version) as well as his scenes with Draco in Chamber of Secrets (especially when Harry sees them at Borgin & Burke’s at Knockturn Alley) and the book version of the Battle of the Department of Mysteries in Order of the Phoenix (as well as Draco’s reaction to his father’s imprisonment after said battle). All of that said, I will also happily acknowledge that Movie!Lucius did have some extra perks (particularly his long hair and wand/cane combo) that weren’t specifically mentioned in the books, but fit his character so well that I’ve come to adopt them into my personal head canon. 🙂

I'm not even really certain why this was ever a contest. Molly Weasley never pushed her husband to truly become great either at his job or in his magical skill. Conversely Narcissa Malfoy would have only ever accepted the very best from her husband and his wealth giving him a life of leisure she would have expected him maybe not to continuously practice his magical skill but to be far more proficient at it than someone who had to waste his life working. I think one factor you completely failed to knowledge in all of this or at least didn't put in the video was the influence of their wives. Molly was satisfied with Arthur simply being a good loving solid man she didn't really push him to any kind of Excellence. It's obvious from the magical skill of their children that if she had ever done so he could have easily matched or beaten Lucius Malfoy but simply never really applied himself

To be fair I think the fight would’ve needed like Misses Weasley and Bellatrix. I feel that his arrogance and how he perceived all Weasley’s let alone Author would’ve been his downfall, along with having a kind hearted person protect what they love. I feel he would’ve tried many curses but Weasley would transform or transfigure anything around him without word to protect himself while Lucius gets angrier just to fall victim to Author’s plan. Remember Ron probably gets his tactics from his dad considering they trusted author to lead a part of the army. Plus you can see in the goblet of fire and I’m deathly hallows part 2 when Author gets into a dual he’s a different man the kind hearted father turns into a cold ass wizard. I don’t think it would be easy but I feel like with all he’s dealt with Author is the man if Malfoy wanted to get buck he’d show him how low the Malfoys have gone and how high the Weasleys rose

I think that traveling around in Voldemort's party for so long. Lucius would have learned a lot, and he was very good at what he did. I just think that Arthur would know a greater diversity of spells, because he wasn't always having to attack and defend, so his magic can be more practically applied, and not just saved for the purposes of duels and ambuscade. I think Lucius would think himself "above" Arthur's form of more domestic and practical magic, which would work to his detriment because, without a servant or two as well as a few henchmen to do his work for him, he'd be lost on his own. Too pampered and kept too safe and comfortable by his fortune and by Voldemort's good graces, while they lasted. I'd give it to Arthur myself, though not, as you say, in terms of raw power in dueling.

This is laughable. As I expected, you fell victim to Lucius's silver words. The man is just talk, no action. Lucius the walking, talking failure Malfoy. Name one thing Lucius has done successfully. His greatest success was levitating muggles during World Cup. He couldn't best 6 teenagers in the battle of Departments of Misteries. He never displayed any great magic. I come to think of it that he was Voldemort's second in command only due to his status. TBH he was more suited for leadership role than actual "heavy lifting". And since we are comparing battle prowess here, I have no doubt Arthur would mop the floor with Lucy, both figuratively and literally speaking. Lucius Malfoy was below average wizard, CHANGE MY MIND.

i love your videos but your scoring system could do with some improving. you very often portray better as perfect. therefore Lucius gets a 5 in dueling while in Dumbledore v Voldemort Dumbledore gets a 4.5 which means that Lucius is a better duelist which i think we can agree is not the case. i think it would be better if you Voldemort as the basis of a perfect 5 and built your scale of that. also you might want to make your scoring system ranging from 1-10 instead of 1-5. it simply allows for greater finesse and you won't need all those half numbers.

I'm not trying to upset anyone here, but I would deem this duel as inconclusive. I am not going to argue any of your points; I just do not see that either of them has overall superiority. That having been said, one video that I'd like to see your take on is Lucius Malfoy vs. Remus Lupin. Both very powerful, especially Lupin, as you yourself noted in another video. I think that this would be a good matchup, considering your assessment of Lucius in this video.
