I kinda like how Snape turns to grab the Cloak in the movie. I know it wasn't intentional back in the day of the release, but I like to think that Snape got harassed so badly by James in that Cloak, to the point that years later Snape has a sence that somebody invisible is behind him 😅

Absolutely, Christmas is a magical time in it's self & the Christmas scenes have always been my favourite parts & one of the main reasons I return again & again to rewatch the movies, I only wish there was much more Christmas (& winter time) content in all of the films. At 60 years of age I've been a huge fan of the magical fantasy genre since first reading The Hobbit as a young child & I can return to such movies like HP at any time but the Christmas scenes are definitely a huge highlight for me personally.

People need to understand that movies don't have the luxury of time that books do, with film simplicity is key. If you never read the book the movie still makes perfect sense and tells a great story all it's own. Perfect adaptation for a movie will never happen, so filmmakers just make the best movies they can.

That and it comes down to the screenwriter/director being ill suited for the job. Kloves deliberately destroyed Ron's character in favor of his idealized version of Hermione. That was just the first film, As the series went on, they started inserting things that weren't even in the books. HBP, why follow the book when they could write some awful story about teenage romance. TDH were the only films that wre better than the books.

@@MavenWalsh I disagree on one point. The final battle in the films is a total let down. The books Final Battle was epic and Cinematic. The actual confrontation between Harry and Voldemort in the great hall, in front of everyone, and Voldemort’s myth being destroyed by everyone seeing him fall and die as just a man was absolutely epic. One might watch the movies and think that Ron seeing himself as Quidditch Captain and Head Boy as his hearts greatest desire is really very shallow, but in the book Dumbledore explains how it's because Ron is almost always the last thought of member of the Weasleys, every other member has something they've achieved, either being really popular, getting excellent grades, going on to be rather important of influential in some capacity, while he gets all the hand-me-downs, and who's greatest achievement so far is to be friends with someone else who also meets those criteria, this feeling of inadequacy and feeling of being the least appreciated member of the family comes back up in multiple books to be really important, it's a large part of why Ron stops talking to Harry for a while in Goblet of Fire, it's referenced in Deathly Hallows with the locket scene, and those are just the obvious ones. What he saw in the mirror was himself being recognized as being important, not ignored, not forgotten, to be successful.

I watched the first three movies before reading any of the books. It was a huge plus because, the books completed the movies, I already knew how to pronounce some of the more uncommon names, and the first three movies still are in no way a let down from the books. From the fourth movie on however…I’ve got a few *DISCREPANCIES!*. ~ Dumbledore said calmly. Honestly, THAT, they had zero footage regarding the quidditch tournament, and during the final battle they weren’t surrounded by an audience for Harry to reveal whose side Snape had truly been on the whole time; I’m happy with the movies. I feel like a lot of people are happiest with the first two and the last two movies. The first two (I felt) were certainly the most accurate to the books (for what time allows for regarding film vs. book). The last two movies, I feel like they realized they had to break up into two parts because they had left so much out of preceding films that was actually important after all. So to make everything make sense, they were forced to make the DH two movies. Of the cut scenes from ALL the movies, the only one that truly bothers me was the one where Draco throws Harry his wand. They *really* should have left that one in.

Although most changes in the movies are to simplify filming to save time & not overuse costly computerized special effects, I think they could've & should've shown the others in the mirror too instead of just his parents. Yes the strongest part of his longing is for the parents, but it would show that even at that age he's aware that having a larger extended family including the elder generations typically gives people even greater happiness through more people to love, more shared experiences, & greater security (because when a hard time hits 1 member/couple then the rest of the family helps them through it in a "pay it forward" kind of way). He could've had younger siblings, he could've had grandparents to pass on wisdom & "uncles" (dad's best friends) & maybe even his mom would've after a bit (since they both had boys close in age) found a way to use common ground to reconcile with her sister & Harry could've had a good relationship with Dudley from much younger. He already knew that to most people "family" is a greater experience than just having parents. Showing that he realized he was missing out on a lot of things rather than just a few makes the emotional impact of the scene stronger.

Movies sometimes have to simplify things because they don’t have the time needed to create deeper emotional content. A writer is able to create deeper content because they can make a book as long as they want and also it’s easier to put things in words than to create a scene in a movie. I think the movies were adapted very well, I also have the advantage of seeing the movies first and reading the books second. But even after reading the books, I still think the movies were done very well. There are even things that I like better in the movies and then there are things that I feel that they should have kept it the way it was in the book. In the end, it is a wonderful story that is timeless.

I constantly kept telling my wife about the differences in the book during the movies. But we always say Christmas dinner, not Christmas lunch. I think maybe because its much more of a bigger meal saying Christmas dinner makes more sense? Lunch just sounds like a small meal like a sandwich or something... And if your wondering about the other meal of the day since dinner is used as the same thing as lunch. It actually gets called Tea, or tea time. And no it doesn't necessarily mean theres lots of tea being drunk XD. Ita littrally just the 3rd meal of the day tea time. But somwhat confusingly tea , somtimes gets called dinner too. I think maybe it just describes a big meal in general. Cos ive used the word for both lunch and tea time. Too bad the Harry Potter Characters don’t know what the readers and viewers know. To me what makes the Harry Potter books and movies sad: The characters are trapped in an endless loop. Doomed to re peat the story over and over again from start to end. With no memories of what is going to happen to them. Whenever someone reads the books and watches the movies. When the characters are not being use they are trapped in a dark, endless, void waiting to be used by someone.
