As someone with my much looser natural curls, natural hair is long. It's tiring. And if you want to wear it straight, you can really damage it. I'll never support someone who wants to relax their hair until it looks like the box but the way it's shown in this video makes a lot of sense. That's why I have a lot of hope for things like texture releases and Keratin treatments. I think permanently damaging our hair as a norm in our culture shouldn't be supported but low risk treatments that don't exhaust us is fine to me. Changing your look is fine.

You know what I think….the natural hair beauties are tired of their design because they never accepted it in the first place. It was a trend that many jumped onto and now I believe that trend has peaked and it’s on to the next trend which ironically is revert….back to what we’ve been taught is beautiful and manageable and sassy and cute and all the other societal beliefs and to top it off it’s masked with statements like black hair is versatile and black women can do whatever they want with their hair and so on and so forth. A lot of our moms did not apply our relaxers properly. As an adult I’ve been natural and relaxed several times. Doing my own hair and also going to the salon I’ve never had scalp or skin burns. A lot of my cousins lost their edges because my aunt simply didn’t apply it correct. Also I vividly recall them sitting and scratching the dandruff out of our heads prior to a relaxer. I recently texturized my daughters 4c hair because she is super tender headed. I bought the best of the best detangling products and wide tooth combs and brushes and it still hurt. Plus most of her styles would only last a few days. After texturizing she has zero tears during hair combing plus she still has curls.

Just beautiful! I'm all for relaxer. It's just easier, and my hair grows faster when it's straight, it just does. I think that is because when it's straight, it's easier to see the health of your hair and what it needs, when you need a trim, when you need extra conditioning, etc. I've been relaxing my hair for 40 years. My hair is near my waist, and I've never had any problems or breakage from any relaxer, ever. I love my length too, and relaxing gives you that. I wear my curls occasionally in the summer as you showed you can, relaxed, when I'm too lazy or hot to blow dry it straight, and as you saw, you can still have curls! So many people think relaxing takes away your curls, which is just stupid, as it does NOT take away your curls. Thank you for doing this video! I hope it helps the girls who are thinking about it, but hesitant to relax, to see that's it's really easy to do, it doesn't damage your hair if you apply it correctly, and that it's not scary at all. ❤ Oh, and I could have missed it, but you forgot to tell all first timers how important it is to do a strand test before you perm! Just to make sure you aren't allergic, and that your hair is in good enough condition to relax.🙂🖖

It's not worth it. Just stay natural and heat straighten how ever many times you like. It’s hard. It seems like her hair is more texturized than a relaxer. This will leave u with 3 textures. If u look at her roots they are straight, the rest of her hair is little curly. When her start to come back in it will be tightly coiled. Having that mixture can cause breakage where the new growth meets the relaxer. I had to deal with that with I transitioned and it caused so much breakage.

They should be informed and here is the whole truth. The researchers said that relaxers increase risk of cancer by 4%. Here's the catch. In order to get that 4% risk, there has to be "excessive use". This was defined as more than 6 times per year. You won't get that 4% risk if you don't do it this often. The researchers also said that more research should be done, because at this time, they cannot say that relaxers definitively cause cancer. Our sisters should be more concerned about diet, obesity, sedentary life, smoking and drinking. That is causing most of the cancer in our communities. Relaxers are the least of our problems.

Your and your hair are absolutely beautiful!! 😍 🥰 Wonderful results! You probably did one of the best tutorials I have ever seen! Very informative and you did your due diligence as well. Everybody ALWAYS got something to say about other people's choices. The fact that they are getting mad over YOUR decision is mind boggling to me. Everything has the potential to causes cancer these days 90% of everything you put on your body, wash and condition your hair with, and EAT has some form of chemicals in it ....whether it be potentially cancer causing or some other type of aliments...( Asthma, contact dermatitis, allergic reactions, fertility, behavioral problems in children, high blood pressure, diabetes and a slew of other diseases... it's there. I see ppl use Shine and Jam ALL the time when getting their natural hair braided...and on there edges EVERYDAY......and it has the potential to cause cancer as well as hair loss and fertility issues. It contains formaldehyde which is an known carcinigen..soooo...why ain't no body talking about how bad that is for someone to use that *everyday* in their hair? The way woman used to apply relaxers now versus Long ago is Night and Day!!! Especially for those who did it at home. We are way more educated on how to use it properly and how to take care of it better while being relaxed. I feel if you not doing anything immorally wrong...Please continue to do what makes you happy it's your life not theirs!!! 💯💕

Very detailed and strategic. My only recommendation with this strategy would have been to section exactly as you did (front, crown and back) BUT apply the relaxer all over in a single process. Start with 16 mins on the clock - Only 1 timer 😊 Apply to the crown - you have 3 mins to apply to this area Apply to the back - you have 2 mins to apply to this area Apply to the front - you have 2 mins to apply to this area Wait for the time to expire, wash the entire head, etc. BTW You are absolutely GORGEOUS 😍

I love my natural hair but felt so much guilt, even just getting a silk press. I understand the importance of representation. However, we must all do what makes us feel happy and confident. The freedom to do what we wish is so empowering. This video is so informative and I love that you showed that the bone straight look doesn't have to always be the outcome. I also love that you showed a way to repair the hair after the treatment. This is so amazing and very empowering. Love the final look beautiful. This is the most informative video on perms I've ever seen.

With all due respect, a chemical relaxer will EXACERBATE the problems you just listed-not alleviate them. And in addition to them, you'll also have to deal with a 50% increased risk of uterine cancer. Where is the logic?

@laulau4367 5 ай бұрын
Also, you don't HAVE to wear wigs and weaves at all. Why do you wear them if you don't like them? Smh, most black people just don't like our hair texture and admire silky hair instead.

@laulau4367 I rarely wear wigs. My hair is usually put into some sort of braids or twists. While i do love my hair, i hate dealing with it and i hate the shrinkage. But lets be real, all the natural hair representation is rarely real 4c hair. My curls will never pop like that or styles come out the same. Its frustrating. And a puff ponytail or short afro is not a satisfying result after working on my hair for hours.

I've been natural since birth. When my parents moved us to America, I was in the era (late 90's) where relaxers ruled and women were trying to rock the Aaliyah hairstyle. I was always picked on and asked why I wouldn't relax my hair. Then all of a sudden in 2003 people were telling me how beautiful my hair was. That is when the natural trend started to creep in slow. When the natural community exploded in 2009, I knew that in 5- 10 years, a lot of women would start to revert back to relaxers. Do what makes you feel comfortable. I have no problems with her relaxing her hair. The only thing I find weird is when someone lightly relax their hair with some texture still left and tell people it's their natural hair.

Hi, Cosmetologist here... You're supposed to do mid shift of hair first then go for scalp and save the ends for last... Also relaxers should never make your hair bone straight, it should be around 80%. If it's bone straight you have over processed your hair

A very careful well-planned out self relaxer. I do not self relax but this was great to see. With your looser natural curl pattern you could probably get away with relaxing 2 to 3 times a year. Your natural hair was beautiful and luscious on it's own. The relaxed look was a nice subtle stretch but at the end of the day relaxers damages the hair strands at this cost, which is why your curl pattern is inconsistent because the relaxers tampers with that and forces it to move against it's nature. The blow-out was really nice, but when the hair is in it's natural state those curls are indeed inconsistent and gives a damaged look. But it's your hair and your choice to do what you want to it! Personally I wouldn't encourage any natural girl to get a relaxer for the pure reason that it damages our hair strands by forcing it to do what it's not. It seems as though you texlaxed your hair instead of relaxing it. The texlaxed look was what you wanted. But yeah for me, chemicals on our healthy curly hair is a no go. But this video was interesting to watch! ❤and you are very beautiful.
