Just to start off with I'm here because of you all the fact that the old man's Malibu is there is nothing more than a added bonus. I've turned wrenches since the mid 70s until my accident in o7 that left me disabled and I can a honest hard working mechanic from a dishonest one, unfortunately I've met to many dishonest ones and when they open their mouth is when the lies start and they don't think I know anything about turning wrenches and sometimes I get so tired of all the lies when I get ready to leave I look them in the eyes and tell them that I have forgotten more about working on vehicles than they will ever know and walk out and leave, your a very smart tech and that's why I watch your channel. For anyone that says they have not made a mistake in this business their lieing to everyone and their the ones I won't let them work on my vehicles. God bless you guys and as always be safe 👍

Shows the EXTREME value of a great parts guy. Rebuilt the driveline on 57 C10 PU and used the Chevrolet approved U joint for the driveshaft. The guy assembling everything says: "This thing has at least 50 thou slop in the length of the U joint" Back to the parts counter at the Chevy dealer to figure out the issue and the guy comes up with the same number. An old guy in the back hollers out: "Is that part number such and such?" and the counter man says yes. OG then replies: "The book is wrong on that one", and calls out (from memory) the specific part number that WILL fit. Sure enough, we measured both before I left and the correct part was .045 bigger than the listed part number.

Mr. Mark, the rock star of auto parts. How did the AMX rear hold up after Kenny`s romp in it? Asking cause he tore up Bill`s. Bill brought me here, but I stayed for your expertise Rich, and Austin`s shenanigans. Quality control on aftermarket parts has left the building. Everybody makes mistakes, but some mechanics never own them. You do, much respect.
@LucoreAuto2 жыл бұрын
The AMX is strong as ever, if you didn't see it the video right before this on our channel is the AMX on the dyno right after we got it back. You can still see the dust and dirt on the sides of it from the "test drive". We are human and try to be honest about the wins AND the losses. No need to hide them just admit, learn, and move on. Quality control on parts.... whoa that's a whole other series of videos we could do
@jeffjankiewicz51002 жыл бұрын
@@LucoreAuto Glad the AMX is ok, and I did see the dyno video. Tiny tubes are choking it out a bit, should get 10+ hp with headers and bigger pipes. Thanks for answering. You guys post it, I will watch it. I`m 64 and still learning, sometimes it hurts my wallet😁. Example-2002 Dodge Neon-P0172 code and bad gas mileage. New parts in order of appearance-air filter, plugs, map sensor, pcv valve, iac valve, injectors, O2 sensors. Money light still on. Got a inexpensive scanner, fuel trims -25, then i saw the throttle position at 12% without engine running...78% at WOT. Frustrating for a guy just trying to keep his old junk running. Code states rich bank 1.It might just be a tps, but It never crossed my mind until i got the Ancel AD410 and saw the tps @12%. Am I correct in thinking the tps is bad? Car has been good to my family, but I`m at my wits end and broke.

Glad I found your channel, enjoy your skills and honesty. There are several well built case spreaders available less than $200. They make removal of the differential easy when you spread the case .015, but more importantly it is the only way to preload new carrier bearings. You can’t hammer in that much shim without spreading the case. Assembled without one when the new bearings break in the carrier is loose and failure is next. I did it without for years. It appears you have all the other tools, I assume you have the clamshell bearing remover because you were swapping shims without hurting the inner bearing. And obviously you have a depth gauge and plenty of knowledge. Keep up the excellent work!
@richardlucore68132 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words. We are a student of the process.... We are always learning better ways to do things. I was actually taught how to set side bearing pre-load with out a case spreader at a GM school. I have a case spreader that I use from time to time, but I have gotten used to doing it in an unconventional way. The Pinion depth gauge is a tool I have recently purchased and will be using on the road forward. Soooooo much better than musical shims, and it gives a validated finish. This test drive was perfect.

Great video per usual, I feel like setting up rear ends is an art. As a 4th gen F body owner I know the feeling of having a sub par 10 bolt in the car, as that is the whole story line of every F body chat. I upgraded to an 8.8 that I cut the ends off the 10 bolt and had them fabricated to the 8.8 center section. I know Bill is usually in time crunch but a properly setup 8.8 would be perfect for that car and would reduce parasitic drivetrain loss from the 9". I sure hope when he yeets that 10 bolt at the line in the near future A. its on video and B. that he saves some of the pieces for you to hang on the wall for your efforts in trying to preserve it TWICE.

I’m going to take what I thought that “The Old Man” was trying say about this build. I believe his words were that he is wanting to show budget Joe around any corner, that Joe can build a decently quick street car on a budget, and then upgrade as the budget allows. It’s a great! On another hand, a guy could search down one of those GN and more scarce factory 8.5 gear 10 bolt rears that would also need an aftermarket 30 spline or better upgrade. But even with one of those hen’s teeth, an upgrade to an aftermarket 9 is still in order, as Bill said this car may actually go too that level. I’m glad to see the budget direction using an honest shop. I would know how to gauge what an honest shop is because of knowing the inside of similar business, plus big truck.
