The ending got me 😔. You know what's a unique thing about this anime? The sadness that lies in-between the lines. If you compare this to an older movie with a similar ending, the Titatnic move for example, you will find that they displayed the ending in a sad way using sad music and what not. Here, the music in the background never changed of being the hype music of Cyberpunk yet it didn't affect the emotional damage, a true masterpiece! In the Titanic movie, however, the sadness in the ending isn't hidden between the lines, it is instead represented very clearly.

After watching, it became clear how unforgiving and brutal night city really is. The anime solidifies the fantasy of the city. The sweetest thing is, you as the viewer, is enticed on the sweetness of love and hope, and was beautifully crushed by the city in the end. It's not adam smasher's fault, it's the city.

i knew too, especially knowing Edgerunners takes place before the game, there was no way Smasher was going to be defeated. Even before that, I knew David wasn't going to make it. It's Night City after all, but seeing him become who he was in the show and his relationship with Lucy, I really felt like there could be a small chance there was a positive ending... how naive I was to believe that. So fucking sad, but goddamn what a great fucking ending and of course, a great anime.

The kid did what he set out to do....he was on borrowed time the moment he put on the exoskeleton. But he shook the halls of power, and it took Arasaka's best to take down that cyberpunk. One could also theorize that in a twisted way he even earned Adam Smasher's respect.... Which is why Smasher blew his brains out instead of letting Arasaka create a construct off of him and have Martinez on a leash for eternity....like Smasher himself is. ((And if you think the Corp doesn't have another backup of him somewhere after he got killed in game....choom, I have some GREAT real estate in Pacifica to sell you.))

It's kinda like the Relationship Madara had with Hashirama when it came to beef. Blackhand wanted no smoke because he felt that was a waste of time, and Smasher always wanted smoke with Morgan cause he kept blowing him off

You could see the ending coming a mile away...and yet, it STILL hit me like a bullet through the heart. It was genuinely sad to see David's transformation and knowing where it would inevitably end up, but I couldn't stop rooting for him. The music choices in this series was phenomenal, the animation leapt out of the screen - even the parts where it went cartoony for comedic effect - I seriously wish it had like 5 episodes more just to flesh out some of the story. Immediately one of my favorite series of 2022. Here's hoping we get to see more stories from Night City.

Everyone else died and David specifically so that she could go out and see her dream, breaking through the cycle of a cyberpunk, completing their dreams and living the normal lives they always wanted. There were sacrifices but there was a light on the end of the tunnel. Lucy right now stands as the hope for the cyberpunks that if you try hard enough, there's always a way I haven't watched this anime but from all the clips and stuff I've heard, that's what I get

This ending is so sad yet so beautiful at the same time. Lucy finally achieves her dream of going to the moon, but instead of being happy she feels empty and depressed. She sees David and remembers the times they had together on the moon BD, only to be brutally reminded that he is no longer with her and that she is now completely alone. But despite this, she takes a deep breath and lets herself feel the sun, knowing that David wouldn't have wanted her to feel sad, and opening herself to the possibility of being truly happy. Showing that there is hope in even the darkest of situations.

They both technically got what they wanted in the end. At first I thought the ending was just bad but I realize that David's main goal was to reach the top of the city in terms of power and respect. Every time he looks at his mothers ashes he remembers what his mom wanted for him before she died, and even though he is hurting himself and pushing away others, he wanted to make her dream come true at any cost. As proof there was that one scene where David is standing on the highest floor of the tallest building in his exoskeleton feeling fulfilled in his moms dream. Even though both David and Lucy were both pushing towards their goals and finally achieved them, they found new meaning in each other along the way, and realized that the love they had was more important than what both of them initially cared about, but by the time they realized that, they were already too deep into their main objective to live that way. David as well as Lucy had already gotten too deep into cyber technology side effects and organized crime by the time Lucy and David wanted to truly be together. In the end, to make the best of a bad situation, David completed his mothers dream and fulfilled his promise for Lucy's dream to go to the moon by freeing her from the life of crime they put themselves into. If David never got involved, Lucy would have been tied down her whole life as a tool, never being able to achieve her dream, and at the same time, if Lucy never got involved, David would have been suffering his whole life trying to live up to his dead moms impossible dream.

This was generally a happier ending than I ever imagined. David became a legend. He kept his promises and followed through. He was indeed on borrowed time after so much he been through, his mind was spiraling downwards. But in the end, he didn't die a psycho but as a badass who went toe to toe with Adam Smasher. People forget that you don't become a true legend on how you live in Night City but by the way you will be remembered when you die.

I think that ending, where she kinda smirks and just bathes in the sun.. really good. She accepts that David is gone and that she’s free from the world. In the end she got what she wanted, freedom, at the cost of the another thing she wanted, David. She’s the only one out of the gang with a happy ending, but it’s not even that much of a happy ending (because in night city, there are no happy endings) and that also means she’s literally the only one with it. She’s alone. And the true happy ending with David was always going to be impossible, so the only thing she can really do in the end is go to the moon.. It’s tough man.. she wanted to go to the moon, then it turned to she wanted to go to the moon with David.. but with David would be impossible so she got her dream but not the entirety of it.. Hope that we can get some sort of future information on how she is doing. Hopefully she’s not going psycho and mega depressed, couldn’t stand it if I saw my fav girl in the series, Lucy, like that.

Thats just how it goes in nightcity no happy endings

Alright, after watching Edgerunners, for the second time now, I'm guessing V is another individual who can handle massive amounts of cyberware without going completely psycho. Afterlife is slacking in their named drinks; at the very least, there should be a Sasha, Maine, and Rebecca shot. Also, I need the academy brat and that extra creepy doc in the game SO I CAN KILL THEM MYSELF!!! And maybe buff up Adam Smasher?

Honestly, there's something so sad about her trip to the moon to me beyond just the fact that David isn't with her. This was her dream, the one thing she wanted more than anything. And she get's there...and it's a fucking tourist spot. Hotels, people taking selfies, tour guides. It's all so corporate. Kinda reminds me of people who hike up mount everest.

I also find it tragic how David started to fight for his people when his mother died but he ended up becoming what he hated, he killed an innocent to complete his goal, and also how he have seen his friend falling into cyberpsychosis but he didnt learn from that. It says a lot about a show when you hope for the characters to survive instead of thinking that they should have died but plot armor saved them.

When there is no plot armor and it is realistic deaths. They played with heavy fire (drugs, implants, kills, weapons and deals), thats stuff is sure to get you killed eventually and poor David was pushed into this mess, the path that his mother didn't want him to take at all. He was supposed to become average office worker with long and average life not mercenary and a dealer. On top of all this is love, his love for Lucy was unwavering and quite strong, strong enough to risk his life to save her. all this equals Death, sooner or later he was destined to die in pain because of all this mess.

David's story shows how bleak Night City is much better than V could. Despite him being born with a great hard working mother, an incredible talent with cybernetics, in the end it didn't matter. He lost a lot of his morality, lost his mother, tricked into weapon experimentation, obsession with strength leading to cyberpsychosis and worst of all had to leave Lucy alone. V and David both succeeded in their goals in the end, but what was lost made them worthless (V removes Johnny but still dies, David gets Lucy to the moon but she can't experience it with him).

Punched me so damned hard in the feels when David disappeared with that laugh. I don't usually get emotional over things like this, but good god... that got me. Hard. I know there's no happy endings for Night City and in the end, the Corps and City will always control everything but just for a moment, I wish things went slightly differently. The ONLY complaint I have about the show is actually the cyberpsychosis. It's brilliantly portrayed and all, not to mention showing how dangerous it can be but it seems Trigger overlooked (or maybe they didn't and just chose to focus on the violent types) the fact that cyberpsychosis can be beaten with help. Lucy kissing David and bringing him back in a way that the med couldn't proves that he wasn't completely gone, not at all like Maine before him. With enough sessions and coaxing, I believe Lucy could've brought David's humanity back and if he managed to survive, they would've gotten the happy ending they wanted because all their goals would've been accomplished. Lucy ensured David survived and got to go to the moon. David fulfilled his Mom's dream of being at the top of the tower, Maine's dream by becoming a legend and his own dream of being able to see Lucy's dream through. You can't be a legend without dying, and that's fair. But if everyone believes you're dead, isn't that the same thing? What if you vanished without a trace? What if you left Night City and went somewhere else? Happy ending scenario (spoilers for those who haven't watched the whole episode): Adam Smasher goes for the kill, but Lucy manages to land a Reboot Optics quickhack on him, learning from how Smasher countered her before (reinforcing that she's a netrunning prodigy) which forces him to stop and recover for a few moments. In that time, Lucy manages to swoop in and grab David's body, just barely getting back to Falco in time. Smasher's optics reboot entirely and Lucy attempts another quickhack, only to get swatted off like Smasher did earlier and this time, he turns the tables on her by creating a firewall that she can't get through, stopping her from being able to hack him again. As he aims for the finishing shot to kill all three of them by blowing up the vehicle, Rebecca is revealed to have survived the pancaking that Smasher did to her earlier manages to surge back to life, shooting Smasher directly in one of his optics, causing him to miss the shot which buys Falco precious seconds for them to escape. In a rage, Smasher obliterates the rest of Rebecca and vows to hunt David to the ends of the Earth, but out of sheer sadistic pleasure, he opts to give David a headstart because he finds him "interesting". That way, David is still very much on borrowed time, but at least he gets to spend the rest of it with Lucy. And because they now have that insane payout for the job, as well as Lucy being able to vanish so well, they run from Night City. To cover their tracks, Lucy hacks into the net and edits the records of Falco, David and herself, declaring all three of them dead, which throws Smasher off their trail forever and she covers her tracks even more meticulously than she did before because Faraday found her the last time. She then spends some time trying to recover David's humanity and in order to make the process faster and more effective, David finally agrees to downgrade all of his cyberware, keeping largely just his Sandevistan and a couple of others due to missing most of a functioning body. Soon, he gets to the point where he doesn't need Lucy around all the time to keep him sane. However, in order to prevent an accident from happening, Lucy decides to go to the moon without him, because if he has a psychotic break while there, he'll assuredly die along with most of the innocent people there. Fast forward to when Lucy goes to the moon and the ending plays out largely the same way, only this time, a second ship arrives from Earth. Lucy has no reason to think it's David because she left him back there to recover, only for him to show up in a space suit. Heavily modified since his body was largely destroyed, but the ripperdocs did all they could. Happy to see him, but also distressed, she questions why he came and he declares has dedicated the rest of his life to being with Lucy and that he's done being a cyberpunk. David then walks a small distance forward, looking at the Earth and Lucy starts having flashbacks of when she was in the braindance with David, recalling how innocent and ambitious of a kid he was back then. Innocent David then disappears in the same manner as the ending, and the real David turns back to face her. He tells her that he ensured that Falco would be comfortable and has officially vanished thanks to Lucy declaring him dead in the system. Now truly free, they sit and look back at Earth and say: "Good riddance. Guess NC can take a loss every once in a while after all." Then for the first time, what they do next is their own choice, not what the city dictates to them. Yeah I know, no happy endings allowed because this is Cyberpunk, but come on man... That damned laugh gave me HELL of a punch to the gut and feels.

Cyberpsycho is not even caused by excessive cyberware put on you , it's caused by major traumatic experience and no help from people + easy access to weapons, I really recommand you to read the Cyberpsycho missions on cyberpunk 2077 and the shard named "The truth about Cyberpsychosis" really a good read

@@onexghost5888 The general consensus of the condition is that it's caused by excessive use of cyberware. It's not so much HOW much cyberware you have, but whether or not you use it a lot. It just so happens that most times, people who go psycho happen to be mostly cyberware. That's why you're required to register if you're someone known to install a lot of cyberware. That shard documents a bit of the cases sure, but generally speaking, it's caused by the degradation of the mind from using cyberware, made even worse if you already have psychopathic tendencies. That being said, there's no true concrete cause pinned down in the lore, because it can be induced by hacks, the tech itself and other things. I agree with you sure, but it's certainly not the only way it happens.
