I am old enough to remember a time when there was actual competition between radio stations. Try changing the radio channel during a commercial break. They're all on commercials at the same time. That's not a coincidence. I remember clearly that it didn't used to work like that. Yeah there was some absolute shit being played. But there was also soundgarden, Nirvana, REM, and other groups that made it big by sheer musical virtuosity. Those are the rare exception to what is played on the radio now.
