Hi Bob- I agree re the song itself. Yes Streisand is a great singer but this song never had much affect on me … until NOW. OMG, WOW WOW WOW, Lucy sings this song as a beautiful LOVE song as a story to us n it really sells how beautiful she’s made this song. It’s now one of my all time favourite songs. If anyone had said this to me 6 months ago I would’ve laughed but she just manages to seem like she is singing to each of us but like , one on one- a solo performance for you, I n everyone. She has made this so it’s now a re-release of a LOVE SONG. Gee she sounds like a voice from Heaven . An Angel bringing a gift from God. Lucy somehow manages to mesmerise us, hypnotise us with the way she uses her eyes when looking at the camera. She takes us on a ride out of this world and into a magical place where she just absorbs us into a new place. Yes she looks a million $’s but in a way of a really grounded young lady . She makes the bad days seem so much better when I hear that voice. I’m so captivated by her music I get excited n start telling all my friends n family about this NEW VOICE. I believe she is without doubt the best female singer in the world n yes I’ve heard plenty of great singers in my 70 yrs. I just wish I could see her perform live. The songs that she has performed from the upcoming musical “Rosie” are also amazing. The musical is supposed to come out on 2024 but I don’t know if she will really do that lead role. I think it would be impossible to do that role and have concerts also. If she does that role in “Rosie “ and I could get tickets I would travel anywhere to see it.

Bob, Lucy can still turn on the water works for me. Her voice comes across (at least to me) as very emotional here. I can barely watch it without almost losing my composure. Another reactor mentioned that Lucy's vibrato is master class. He said if you want a vibrato lesson listen to this video on her channel and learn from er vibrato. I agree with him and you. Plus, when she uses vibrato when there's power behind the note her vibrato just drills right through me. Hands--down my favorite vocalist currently.

Your critiques contain a lot of content in the man-in-the-basement style which, for the non-coaches among us, gets across the facets of a rendition that make that rendition easy on the ears and they convey the general feeling the song leaves on you. Lucy Thomas sings this song better than Barbra herself... Every new performance is better than the last. Lucy has real talent and is not afraid to use it. She was just a kid when I discovered her on KZbin. I have seen her grow and mature on screen. Even at age 14, Lucy was far ahead of others in their generation. This performance is typical Lucy Thomas Magic.... 1 camera, 1 mic, 1 take start to finish. Lucy is singing this live, not hiding in a studio. Many will simply lip sync in front of camera, toss in some gimmicky edits, then roll it out. Lucy does just the opposite. That is more proof just how good Lucy really is. She has no peers even close. Lucy Thomas is the greatest voice of her generation today... full stop.

What always entrances me with Lucy's singing is the arrangements to match her voice and ability along with the song selection While she has the power and control to blow most other singers out of the water the performances display her abilities without over using them leaving you to anticipate and enjoy them and want more. Most importantly it shows a respect for the song that great and popular songs should get they are not just add ons to display the singer they carry meaning of theire own. Bob, since I don't remember the original that well, I can't compare. BUT, right where you pointed, not only did she hold a note a bit longer, her voice also went into a bit of a lilt (sp); sensational emotional addition. This one is really having an impact on me. Also, you mentioned how she seems to alter a note or hold one, altering things from the original. I've said it before, Lucy does not copy, she covers and make songs her own. So she, her producer, or whoever creates the rendition (including backing track), is doing a great service to the music she makes.

Bob, I'm glad you jumped on this one. It has only been out a couple of days but the views are already piling up. I totally agree with your assessment of this piece. I vaguely remember the original version so nothing to compare it to. But here, once again Lucy's technique and her voice really stand out. Additionally, as you mentioned, her vibrato is fantastic; able to reduce me to a teary-eyed, chill-ridden heap. Everything about her vibrato is beautiful. She stays centered right on key, no drifting, and she can slip in and then back out of vibrato perfectly; still on key. Finally, we got to see Lucy's nice smile at the end. Oops, almost forgot mention the opening. That pure note with her wonderful vibrato bought a big smile on your face and caused you to backup and play that opening again. Woof!. That's it, I'm out of superlatives. 😂

Barbra sang the song perfectly. I have always wondered how Perfect can be topped. I finally figured it out. Let Lucy sing it. Lucy’s voice is actually richer and fuller than Barbra’s. Bob, thanks so much for getting back to me. I'm 77, another old white guy! I love your style, your simple but direct and wide ranging approach. No theatrics, no hype, no waving of hands. Your smile says it all. The thing for me with Lucy is that she has a certain transcendent quality to her voice, that lifts me no matter what she sings. You call it "soul" if I remember right. By whatever description, she has that certain core, something that is special. She's my favorite singer. And as for the CBD and the hot stuff that you rub on your low back or elsewhere back, do keep it in mind for down the road. I have so many friends in their 70s who use it. I've used a TENS unit, too, with good results. I resisted the CBD as I wanted nothing to do with marijuana. But the CDB component has almost no THC in it, which is the part of marijuana that leads to the high and hallucinations. Not only does the CBD relieve pain with no side effects, but it also gives an overall feeling of comfort and relaxation that is unique; much better than the various medication drugs I have taken over the years, which always have side effects. Just for background, _A Star Is Born_ has been made four times. The original was done in 1937 with Janet Gaynor and Frederic March. Then it was remade in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason. After that comes the 1976 version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. Finally there is the 2018 version with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. I find it ironic that this movie was made four times, while I disliked it from the first (the only version I've watched all the way through is the 1937 one). That doesn't mean I don't like any of the music from the movies though.

I love your review but disagree with your conclusion just a smidge. Politically, Ms. Streisand and I are on different continents, but she definitely has vocal chops.
