RIT COLORSTAY DYE FIXATIVE VS. NO FIXATIVE: DOES IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE?! || Lucykiins

In today's video, I'm comparing whether the Rit Colorstay Dye Fixative actually makes a difference when it comes to dyeing a garment. I dyed the same shirt and then used the fixative on one side and left the other side alone to see if there are any visible differences. Watch to find out if the fixative is worth the extra step after fabric dyeing! Hope you guys enjoy ♥

Magenta and Green are colour opposites in a visual science way. Interesting that you picked up on the tint change that incorporates that.

The salt you decided not to use (the salt in the directions) is actually something that helps set dye -- so it's kind of a shame you didn't use it for comparison. It's a lot less expensive than the bottle of fixative and it would have been interesting to see if it was enough to set the dye. 😉

damnnnnnn 🙃🙃🙃 okay question: for the bucket that i used, is a whole cup of salt a correct amount? idk why i felt like it was way too much 🙈

Are you sure the one with fixative isn't running clear immediately because it was just rinsed in the fixative?

after the garment is put inside the fixative bucket, it does bleed. but it still holds the color better.

use less dye for a faded look as well. it won't get as dark.

After the use, does the fixative still work or does it starts bleeding, especially on skin and furniture
@lucykiins

the fixative is absorbed by the fabric so once you wash it, you won't see it bleed or anything.

How do you protect an embroidered logo patch on the black polyester shirt if you don’t want to dye the logo black?
@lucykiins
@lucykiins 25 күн бұрын
the thread of the embroidery is most likely polyester so if the shirt is polyester as well, i think the embroidery will be dyed.

have you tried double dying any clothes before to see if it would make it even more black? I'd be curious if there would be any difference, or if it would be worth doing to get a more true, fresh out the store black.

I should've just went to youtube first. No website said anything on how to use the fixative other than put the item in there straight from the dye water. The black dye does come by itself.

@@lucykiins I didn't know there was two different blacks. I've only seen the Black All Purpose sold alone or in the back to black plastic wrapped kits. I just soaked the material in it, nothing I found said that the fixative has to be hot to work. I did a denim jacket and jeans, and the dye literally dripped dry out of both, like that clown in PPG when bleach turned him into a mime. Your video was the first non Rit video I found. I redyed it[jacket] last night, cold rinsing it now, and the only thing that didn't take well, was the cottony collar on the jacket, so far. It's kinda splotchy and gray. Somehow I got my kitchen sink to circulate water.

Pro tip just make sure the items are able to move freely in order for the entire garment to be covered 100% otherwise you'll end up with blotchy clothes. The more Dye you use the darker the cloths will be however the more cloths you Dye the less portent the Dye will be towards the end. Just make sure the items can move freely in the Dye water otherwise you could end up with blotches.
@markdbednarjr.1759

My mistake was trying to cram all 3 of my items in the first Dye bath. I should of done two separate baths with the same Dye in the water but wanted to try and save time by squeezing the 3rd pair of shorts results being the first two pairs of shorts came out great but the 3rd I tried to stuff in came out blotchy. Now I'll have to go get more Dye and do it all over again for the blotchy pair vs just doing the first two pairs of shorts first then using the same Dye water for the third pair. Could of saved 5$ and time but all well at least now my shorts look brand new!

@lucykiins
@lucykiins 5 күн бұрын
i think soda ash is used on a lot of dyes to allow the dye to stick. i personally never use it, but a lot of people do. you don't necessarily have to buy every little thing just to dye something. just get the main supplies and hope for the best 🤣🤣
