Once you start using that word processor it becomes a slippery slope to becoming United Methodist!

First of all, this is at the Heartland Baptist Bible College chapel, and the speaker in this video is our college president. The event was a Church Planters conference (I think, I may be wrong though). I find it laughable that these comments try so hard to find fault, while none of you know any of the details, or context that this is from. You will watch a 2 minute video, just hoping you will hear something to complain about. Sam Davison is old school, but that doesn't mean he is wrong. If you don't like him, or what he is saying, watch something else. Old Joel Osteen doesn't offend anyone, try him out.

the point is that a preacher shouldn't have to justify to a congregation why another preacher used an iPad to preach from. apparently people were offended that he used an iPad. give me a break.

Well God bless you brother, you studying for the Lord's work? These people are mockers and scoffers but the Lord will soon shut up their mouths. I'll tell you what though, I just believe we ought to have a Bible, that means 'Byblos' - 'book'.

Eli, you have no concept of Bible history do you, and your "we ought to have a book" claim. You think God's word was always a "book" because you have your KJV as a book? Do you have any idea that before "books" the scripture was written on scrolls and then codexes? And until the codexes were developed, most people didn't even have the entire Bible at once, like you have today. In the 1500 came the printing press, and yet getting any book printed was expensive to create and to buy. In 1611, when the KJV was completed, Bibles were chained to the English Church's pulpits and people did not all have access to a Bible privately in their homes. They had to go to church to hear it READ to them from a preacher in the Anglican pulpit. Now, today we have this newer thing called a "book", and with printing in China being very cheap, almost everyone has access to a Bible at Walmart. The word of God isn't confined in a book. It can also be on an electronic device and still be the word of God. Cut the legalism. It's baseless.

I can even remember when having a audio visual was considered "worldly" LOL. But guess what? They are now in heavy use. I also remember when someone once suggested singing "We Will Glorify" by Twila Paris and it was like they said a cuss word. Now that song has almost gained hymn like status...

That wasn't a typical contrived fundy justification; the preacher was just explaining a situation that was out of the norm for that church. He was light-hearted about it and even mocked some of the mindsets that exist in fundy-dom by talking about the slippery slope of typing notes. That's a reach Dar-el.

Jesus didn't have air conditioning so we shouldn't either. 🙄
@joshgray369910 жыл бұрын
I prefer actually having a Bible, but that's because that's simply what I'm used to. That's also the reasoning in these churches, except they make stuff like this into "convictions" when they are really just preferences. Everything has to be "old fashioned" (even if it is a practice that's less than 50 years old). That's what determines if something is "worldly" or not. I know of churches that sing songs now that 20-30 years ago were "contemporary" and hence "worldly". Stuff like this in the above video is no different. I used to hear preaching against Myspace and FB, but most of those who preached against it now have a FB account LOL.

Better not turn the air conditioner on either since Jesus didn't have that.

Sad to see a congregation so immature they need an explanation why someone used an iPad as if it could be a stumbling block. Speaks volumes to the failure of the pastor to teach and grow his people.

I love how even they joke on how absurd they are. "Oh here come's Brother so and so to the old fashioned altar because he types his notes, amen? Hahahahaaha". I bet they think their old fashioned KJV is written out by hand too....
@ITSCBJ10 жыл бұрын
Really? This is an issue? How absurd. I serve a traditional Southern Baptist Church as pastor and I have used my tablet while preaching. I don't like it because of the glare from our lighting system. You know what people said about using it? Nothing. Why? Because the we are not worshipping technology... but the risen Christ. This video would be hilarious if they were not serious about it. Our righteousness is not found in suits, hand-written sermon notes, crew-cut hair styles, or steeples filled with hymnals. Man's righteousness is found in the person and work of Jesus Christ alone. [end rant]
