I like the fact that the MG has not gone for high tech loook and makes it look like a normal car. Anyone converting from a ICE car to EV will feel at home it is less dounting for a new EV adapter. I think MG have gone for the Kiss system ( Keep It Simple Stupid) and it works. The warrenty is great and it shows that MG is not out to take your money on high cost unnesesery service. Keep up the great work Tom. I hope the MG4 and MG5 come over to Australia soon they look like a winner to.

Well said - for the price, you get a straight up EV that does the job 👍 Looking forward to more offerings from MG!
@ecurb102 жыл бұрын
Yep I get that many people would want their EV to look like a regular ICE car, and I totally understand why. However I'm one of those who actually wants it to look different. It's like if the first smart phones were made to look like an old Nokia, or imagine the first diesel trains looking like a steam train - to me the EV is a whole new technological and maybe cultural change, so why not have them LOOKING the part? Hence I'm more drawn towards the Teslas. That said, it's really hard to beat the value of these MGs!

For an additional few thousand, the Atto 3 certainly does offer a lot more features. Having said that, if your are constrained by your budget then the MG ZS EV is a good option

I had a test drive the other day of the Essence, and though the interior looked more luxurious, the fake leather felt thin, as if it would rip easily. For all that extra cost of the Essence I felt that the Excite with its more practicle cloth seats better value. It drove very nicely though...felt good.

@Peter-vn8ue2 жыл бұрын
No matter what way you spin it , the Atto 3 represents better value for money in the standard or extended range. The Atto 3 is built on a dedicated EV platform, has a sunroof as standard as well a a power tailgate, 8 speaker sound system, 12.8 inch infotainment screen, V2L, power front seats for both driver and passenger, 150kw motor that produces 310Nm of torque and more technology as standard , so definitely better value for money for the Atto 3 and its a bigger EV. The base model MG ZS Ev has no powered front seats, No sunroof, no powered tail gate no coloured mood lighting, less powerful motor and less safety technology, so if you add these things onto the base model MG ZS Ev price is it really cheaper than the standard model Atto 3? which have all these features as standard and more.
@Peter-vn8ue2 жыл бұрын
@Sɛnˈseɪ Sīfù 🔧 I think you would be shocked to know that a kia Seltos GT line with the diesel engine with the sunroof option which has technology almost on par with the standard Atto 3 model is almost identical in price. You need to compare a similar sized petrol/ diesel engined vehicle with the same safety features and technology and options. Not everyone can afford a Tesla or want a Tesla if they can afford it. FSD aside which costs an additional 10 to 15 grand extra what does a Tesla offer safety wise without the FSD package. Things like auto braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert are all standard inclusions here in Australia for any vehicle to be able to be given a 5 star ANCAP safety rating. So the Tesla has faster acceleration, can charge faster, has designated Tesla chargers and can travel further, if you are just buying an Ev to use to commute to work, you have saved yourself 15 to 20 grand by buying the extended range Atto 3 over the Tesla model 3 standard version. It comes down to preferences and your personal needs. I don't buy into the hype that a Tesla Ev is the only brand to own and the must have Ev but some people follow the pack like a lost sheep and suffer from fomo, fear of missing out , if they don't purchase a Tesla. I have nothing against the Tesla brand but the styling of the outside of the vehicle and the minimalist interior does not excite me. Alot of people don't give a stuff about the hype around the Tesla brand and just want an affordable Ev, whatever the brand may be. FSD fully self driving vehicles will not become lawful to use as intended, by this I mean you activate the system and the car does all the driving without human input. By the time this is written into law here in Australia all vehicles on the road will have the same or very similar FSD autonomous driving systems, so every vehicle is aware of the other and keeps a safe distance and human drivers will not be required, nor a steering wheel as the vehicle does the driving, it will just have seats for passengers only including where the driver sits.

@db76432 жыл бұрын
First of all I am a BYD owner, so if my comments seem biased I can only assure you they are not, but make up your own minds. I do not think the Atto/ZS comparison you touched upon was entirely fair. Or perhaps I should say it left a little on the table. The standard range Atto with a more similar battery to the ZS in question is - unless I am much mistaken - cheaper with on road costs than the ZS Essence (The most comparable ZS by spec). The ZS comes with better tyres (a gain, albeit not an especially permanent nor long term one). Warranty and servicing are better in terms of coverage and cost. Though that servicing cost difference 'may' essentially offset the price difference placing them on a financially equal footing. And on the less tangible front, the MG brand has been here longer, and has some degree of grounding. I will even grant that the ZS has more complete infotainment with navigation, AA and ACP, though the more reasonable would accept that this is confirmed to be coming on the Atto 3. Oh , and of course rain sensing wipers. The Atto is bigger with more passenger and luggage space, on an EV specific platform, More powerful and faster, has multi link rear suspension (not torsion beam), is commonly reported to have better interior material quality (not my assessment, but easily confirmable in most reviews) has better cameras, has an 8 speaker sound system and comes with a VTL cable included. So despite there being pro's and cons on both sides, if one considers the caveats, and what are the more substantial factors the Atto appears to be the beast option by a margin. I certainly have no issue if people 'prefer' the ZS. I am not suggesting they are polar opposites, nor that the ZS is a bad car, but I struggle to see how the two are as close on paper as you 'appear' to suggest.

Hey Tom keep the reviews coming. They serve to reinforce ordering a Tesla M3 LR was the right thing to do. I’d love to see a review of the Tesla Wall charger compared to aftermarket. Seems to me it’s the cheapest level 2 charger at $750 on the market & would suit anyone with an EV.

Have to say I enjoy these videos thanks Tom. I have the Tesla MP3 and the MG EV earlier version with an order for the updated MG model. Like you I also have an order in for the Tesla Y performance for the wife (still waiting for both but that is another story!) One thing I would have liked to see is how the MG app works? Tesla app is fantastic but unfortunately I have not seen how good (or bad) the MG app is. I do know that it can only connect to one phone (user) at a time. A video on that would be nice (hint hint). I can add after 12 months of the MG EV ownership my wife prefers the MG to the Tesla as it is more like driving a car.

Only 51kWh though be better if they brought in the 77kWh model instead. Seems crazy as it's not much better than the old model. Be interesting to give us pros & cons of MG vs BYD from your perspective. It has improved over the old model though definitely. I'd prefer real world figures over specs(WLTP) if you had it for awhile to drive with you could have done charging test, range test, efficiency(real world) etc like a mini-Bjorn set of tests for local conditions.

When looking at EVs I still think it's useful to compare them with ICEs. Dimensionally, this MG is very similar to the Kia Seltos, which comes in at about $30K for the bottom spec model. That's $15K less! Warranty similar. TCO? I'm guessing the Kia might win, depending on the MG's depreciation. I don't know which one I'd buy without a more detailed feature comparison, a good test drive of both and some spreadsheet work on the TCO.
@LudicrousFeed2 жыл бұрын
Send me your spreadsheet and I’ll take a look

You really need to compare apples with apples Sir Gregory a Kia Seltos GT LINE without the petrol engine, I think is a diesel instead, with the sunroof option and the standard range Atto 3 including on road costs and see how far apart they are in costs, safety technology and off the line performance.

Australians love to play with the term "Australia's". The ambiguity sometimes leads people to believe the car was made in Australia. No. It does not mean the car has anything to do with Australia, just means the car is available in Australia. The reason for the wordplay is rather pathetic. Australia has lost all its capacity in car manufacturing. Let us be honest and keep the least amount of dignity. Just say it is the most affordable EV in Australia.
