Interesting review Tom. I am about to clock up 6 months ownership of my e-2008 and remain delighted with my purchase. It is very much a city car, where range is far less important than other attributes such as comfort, quietness, speed limiter and compact dimensions. This is a premium vehicle and it is not reasonable to compare it with the BYD Atto and the MG which have far lower levels of refinement. (and BYD are yet to learn how to provide service support for their burgeoning fleet in Australia - a common problem for new entrants to any market). If you want a cheap EV then go for the Atto or the MG. If you want a premium driving experience then read on. For me the main competitors to the Peugeot are the Cupra Born, the Volvo EX-30 (not an option 6 months ago and I am not sure it has been released in AU yet), the Megane E-tech (not available last year, even to test drive), the Kia Niro and the upgraded e-2008 which was at least 12 months away (and really it's a relatively minor upgrade). These options are all at a similar price and trim level, and with the exception of Cupra have well-established dealer networks with a track record of maintaining their fleet in AU. I test drove several. The Niro is a nice car but it felt like driving a bus in comparison to the Peugeot. In the end it was pretty much line ball between the Cupra Born and the available Peugeot, with the Peugeot prevailing mainly due to my familiarity with the marque: an excellent experience with a diesel 308 over the previous 14 years. EVs are best when you have home charging, ideally from solar where your charging cost is around 7c per kWh. But even if I owned a car with a large battery I would find it a bit of a pain to go out to a public charger for a weekly top-up. The e-2008 dovetails well with home charging because most home solar energy systems will only manage about a 20kWh top up in a single day of charging. There is no real benefit in having a larger (heavier!) battery. If I take the charge up to 80% I usually can last a week or more without needing to re-charge, but my usual practice is to plug in for 3 shorter solar charges every 3 days or so - this will hopefully optimise the battery SOH. While the car is primarily a city car it performs well on the motorway. A trip from Sydney to Canberra required a 11 minute top-up at Mittagong, which is over in a blink (and a full charge back to 80% at my destination to prep. for the return journey). Would I drive this car to Melbourne or Brisbane on Boxing Day? Only, if I had lots of time and a sense of adventure! This car is simply not designed to be that vehicle. I am easily achieving efficiencies of 14kWh / 100 km around town. Mainly drive in Eco with the regen on. This is more than adequate to keep up with city traffic. Main reason to select Normal mode is to un-throttle the climate control on hot days. (in fact, climate control can account for up to a third of the energy consumption. The vehicle itself manages around 12 kWh / 100km. Sport mode is really only needed for overtaking on highways, or for out-accelerating d***heads in hotted up ICE cars. (I would not want take on a Tesla or Cupra though!) Not everything is perfect about the vehicle. The mobile app is crap, nothing more than a sophisticated diary: it must have been designed by a work experience intern. But who really buys a car for the app? And there are a few functions as such remote charging control. the ability to set charging limits and so on which would be useful. But even then there are simple work arounds when you have an app-controlled home charger. The e-2008 is for drivers who value the convenience and features of traditional motor cars (such as a dashboard and control buttons for frequently used features) with an electric drive train. There is another category of EVs which I characterise as batteries with a large metallic body around them, a steering wheel with an ipad like tablet for control. Not my cup of tea.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'm thinking of getting one and read the manual. The door ajar warning seems generic. Does it show the specific door that is open in a pictogram representation? What about the boot,bonnet, charging door? Are there warnings that show if any bulbs are out? Of the cars you test drove which is the quietest?
@eurofile4168 ай бұрын
@@boggintime6693 Definitely no specific warning that charging cap is open. I’m going to check those other details for you tomorrow morning. Peugeot was definitely the quietest of the cars I drove. I really like the I-cockpit with the small steering wheel. You need to test drive to see if it suits. In spite of Tom’s comments I think it handles really well on the highway, through corners etc. I live in the inner city. The 2008 was also the narrowest, shortest and lightest of the vehicles I considered so that was (and is!) a big plus for me. For many people value=range but I was looking for something more premium for the city.

Seriously crazy prices right! No doubt the interior is very good compared to the Chinese offerings in MG4, BYD Dolphin and GWM Ora but for driveability and handling, the MG4 is still better imo. Depends where your priorities lie I suppose 😅 - Great to have so much choice at this end of the market though 👍

@@LudicrousFeed thanks for the feedback. I haven’t done test drive yet. I sort of have some faith with the brand. The only thing concern me is the range. Discount to real world I think it’s around 280km. And possibly another 10-15% loss after years. It’s a city car occasionally bne to Gold Coast return ok. But the price sooooo tempting considering also ev rebate in QLD.

I just bought a discounted 2023 model Peugeot E-2008 this week. We were able to pick up a demo model with just a few thousand kms on the dial for just $36,990. I noticed that all the 2023 models E-2008's in Australia sold out the day after we paid the deposit for ours! Hopefully we will see s lot more Peugeot EVs on the road now:).

That's a lot of $$ for not a lot of range. It's not a high end car. I'd expect an 80+ kwh battery with 500+ km wltp for that money unless I'm getting a high end car which an average Peugeot is not, although it is a nice car

My biggest gripe I have always had with French vehicles is that they are underpowered. The styling and presentation is usually very good but it has always come back to the power levels when I have been considering them in the past. I didn’t see what the power rating was for their EV, so apologies if I have got this wrong, but if it’s been anything like their ICE vehicles, I’m going with poor power levels yet again until proven otherwise.

You’re correct, considering the 0-100kph acceleration of this car is not much quicker than its ICE equivalent
