My guitar friend just gifted me a 60s acrolite he's had for a long time. Just got it home and started researching. Turns out it's one of these protype models. Has the original heads, wires and everything. Happily, my research lead me to one of my favorite drummers playing one. It's a pretty good day.

Stanton Moore, Steve Jordan and Clayton Cameron come to mind. Loves the Stanton's approach...one smaller ported for punch and a bigger un-ported for boom.

A great album by the band SCHNTZL called Catwalk is a duo and the drummer has a similar setup to this in facet, though his more resonant bass drum is the on to his side.

Candidly, I’m going to surmise that Carter could make oatmeal boxes sound incredible with an equal tuning range of what he plays now. His musical talents and tuning prowess is astoundingly amazing. He’s the groove and tuning master compared to most all drummers at present. Inspiring! Thx Carter. Really enjoy it and it opens up my own awareness- mostly of my humbled ascertained view of my own drumming and tuning abilities comparatively. That’s ok. I continue to learn and grow. d

sounds so much like my 60's acrolite which was my first snare when i was a kid. that sound is just instantly identifiable to me. your playing is just so fluid and musical as always. it's always a true joy to listen to these demos and any videos you post. i wish more drummers would focus on you and less on the the folks just blowing chops or playing covers with sextuplets. this is what drumming is supposed to be about.

Great sounds on that snare whether tuned up, down or in between. I do love the first tuning a lot... just gorgeous !! I was able to snag a blacrolite last weekend for $25 couldn't believe it. The folks selling listed it as a Pearl snare drum (the drum head said Pearl ☺). Love all the Acrolites Ludwig has made !!

Around the 4 minute mark he blisters, then at 4:10 the switch from doubles to singles... Dude. That's the stuff. That's the stuff non drummers miss. They get the stuff at 4 minutes, with all the razz-ma-tazz coolness. And it IS cool. But what seems so simple--switch from doubles to singles, keeping them even, with a super smooth crescendo... THAT'S the stuff we drummers look at, mouths agape, and think "Shoot, that little tasty bit right there is MONEY." Now if you'll excuse, I have some overdue work to do on the practice pad.
