In this video I show you my new setup for propagating Ludwigia Palustris and Water Wisteria. This emersed aquarium plant propagation setup is extremely simple to setup. It includes a clear plastic tub and miracle grow potting soil, that’s it! Setups like these allow you to grow as many plants as you would ever need, for cheap!

I have never grown Ludwigia emersed.. but I have grown Rotala Rotundifolia quite successfully. Emersed, I'm able to keep them much shorter and bushier with a ton more offshoots than I would in the aquarium. I run CO2 and high light in my display tank and can't get the offshoots I can emersed. I love it. I keep the light pretty close to the plants and pull it at about 4 inches or so. Works great, minimal melt if any.

Sounds like I should try some Rotala :)

@@AquariumPlantLab very great it grows crazy! I spray it 6 times a week with regular water 1 time a week with some ferlitizer. Lights have been on for 8 hours a day i started with some pieces of riccia and now my entire box has overgrown 😁😁its around 25 degree Celsius & yesterday broke out some pieces for another plastic container. So its doing here quite well

Awesome video Sir 👍 Can you share how much growth you allow before cutting and regrowing the ludwigia and bacopa? Also could you share more on soil medium, fertilizer and spraying regimens for success and fast growth???

You should try to buy a few tissue cultures from buceplant. Get UNS ones NOT aquatic farmer they suck. But planting those would be wayyy more plants at the start and they’re already emergent. The bang for your bucks on tissue cultures are insane especially w stem plants

That’s a good idea! I’ve had my eyes on a few species. Might have to look for some tissue cultures to get those going 👍

@@AquariumPlantLab definitely need to. I’ve been thinking of doing the same just buying a single tissue cup of a few species and having A ton of stems in a few months 🤙🏻

Do you every open the containers to allow fresh air to flow in? Personally i don’t do that and have been experiencing a bit of mold growth, so I’m just wondering how you are going with it

I have a video on mold issues. Might be worth a look. I do typically open my bins once or twice a day to harvest plants or spray them with water. 👍

Fairly new to plants for my aquarium. I can’t tell you how upset I was last year, when I purchased about $50 in plants, and lost almost all of them. I did not know that they dissolve when you put your aquatic plants in an aquarium. “WHY” do growers not grow them in water? I heard you say that the Wisteria was a water plant and now you are transforming to soil. I do not understand the reasoning-can you explain?

Great question! Most all farms grow emersed (out of water) because most aquarium plants in the wild primarily grow that way. They grow much faster, propagate quicker, and survive shipping better. Some plants melt a bit when transitioning between emersed to submerged or the other way (vals/stem plants tend to do this more than say Anubias or Java Fern). What is important to note is that plants tend to melt when shifting in any type of environment. Even plants grown in one persons aquarium will tend to melt if placed in another persons aquarium, simply because of changes in water chemistry, lighting, and fertilizer. Unlike animals plants have to grow specialized to their very specific environment. What you want to do is make sure they are given all the required components (water chemistry, light, substrate, ferts) if they are then the melting process should be minimized and quickly replaced with vigorous new growth. If they melt but don’t rebound then something is likely missing in the tank. I would start by looking at lighting and nutrition 👍 You might find this video helpful: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWnJm2uKh5mWhc0
