This may be a reach, but I love how height is used between Luffy and Blackbeard. In the bar, Blackbeard is literally looking down on Luffy whereas Luffy is looking up. But then at Blackbeards speech you can see that when he sat down their eyes meet at the same height. They both respect each other and share the same ideals. He doesn't talk down on Luffy, but rather sees him as an equal pirate. And later on , after Blackbeards actions, when they meet again in Impel Down we have that panel of Blackbeard towering over Luffy looking down on him, as he got stronger and turned into Luffys biggest enemy. Why I’ve instantly got to like Blackbeard is because he‘s potentially an even bigger dreamer than Luffy... He‘s considerably older and more knowledgable of the world, its history and also the timing of the new era that he‘s been ever so patiently waiting for. He‘s had a 10 times more direct path in rising to power than Luffy by confronting exponentially more powerful opponents in the same timespan Luffy has. He‘s essentially a stronger, smarter, evil Luffy... Now was there ever a more complementing antagonist to a protagonist than Blackbeard is? I guess not

To understand why Luffy didn't fight back, consider the park bench scene from Good Will Hunting: > Sean: Thought about what you said to me the other day, about my painting. Stayed up half the night thinking about it. Something occurred to me... fell into a deep peaceful sleep, and haven't thought about you since. Do you know what occurred to me? > Will: No. > Sean: You're just a kid, you don't have the faintest idea what you're talkin' about. Luffy is ready to defend himself against someone who has insulted his dreams. But then, as Luffy listens to the guy explain himself, it occurs to Luffy what kind of life this man must be living. This is a guy who genuinely believes that dreams are worthless, that putting your life at risk for your ambitions is a waste. How miserable must that be? This man will never experience the unparalleled joy of getting that one step closer to your goal, or reminisce about the crazy things you've experienced in your journey to get there. This man, who has never even experienced the kind of "dreams" he's denouncing, is trying to call them worthless. What possible satisfaction could you get from beating him up? It isn't "evil" that he doesn't believe in dreams, it's just... sad.

It's also a show of how much Luffy has learned from Shanks since he was a kid, when Higura, the bandit made fun of Shanks, Shanks didn't care, but Luffy made a big deal, here we see Luffy take Shanks' role while Zoro follows Luffy's lead and Nami takes Luffy's role

I love how the bounties are brought to the focus in this arc as well. Luffy lives for a bigger bounty. His infamy is arguably a sign of his progression in his goal. But not Blackbeard. I really like these videos, while a bunch of KZbinrs focus on grand themes and everything. Your individual character focus on how each characters speech, like this one, or Robin's "I want to Live!" Really puts them into perspective on why this show is great.

I'm a man of dreams myself, but all of the dreams has been denied to me. Right now, I'm biding my time and I've set some more realistic goals in life for now, while I support others in their dreams! Wonderful video as always Ohara! or tho, you might've had a tad fun making it xD Let me know if you (the reader) want to talk deeper with me down below.

I'm from Rio, Brazil. I read since 2004... This is the Best One Piece Channel. I've already fought about the dreams in this part, but you knew how to express yourself, captain. Go on.

This is the most importers scene in OP for me, OP is about dreams. And here we see the 2 most imported people in the story talking about it. This scene made BB great and showed how dreams are impotent! ZEHAHAHAH

Will this series only include moments that've been animated already? Cuz I feel like something that could make an amazing vid would be the "Born to Boil" Scene. It also feels like it doesn't get talked about much anymore. Love the vids btw!

it's great moment too but imagine how it gonna be in the anime

the mainstream one piece tubers aren't going to talk about that because god forbid you spoil the anime only army with the titles and thumbnails

Remembering the shanks scene with context is hilarious, because as a near or at yonko level character, chilling in bum fuck no where. And some bandit that literally the biggest fodder in shank's crew could probably stomp out along with his entire gang, thinks he's a big shot and tries to humiliate shanks who can like blow up islands is actually hilarious so you can actually see why they all laugh as soon as the bandits leave because it's also just a really good joke to them.

A foil! I love that word. I think I knew it but it never clicked before now. I've always been calling villains who mirror the hero but for one major difference Negaducks.

Brilliant series for a brilliant show, this is probably my most re-visited One Piece moment of all time.

What a power move to have Blackbeard and Luffy's first fight be over some fucking food.

Thank you Ohara; although I’m sure it wasn’t your intention, this video has opened up one of my long forgotten samskaras, giving me the chance to heal. We should all remember that a life without a dream, is no life worth living at all

4:50 I just noticed that Luffy and Teach look like Gol D. Roger and Rocks D. Xebec here!😳

17:49 I also noticed in this scene the side by side of the characters. there's 3 of them, Luffy Zoro and Nami. And we know (or about to know) BB has multiple body as what like Luffy said "its them". Maybe the 3 strawhats represents the characteristic of BB 3 personalities? Like Luffy for dreams, Zoro for Strength and Nami for Greed

I was already a big fan of your videos but damn do i love these scene analysis videos! HUGE thanks for making them man can't to see the next one!
This is deffo one of a small handful of moments in the manga that left me feeling "woah, this story is bigger than I give it credit for". Great vid, great topic.

I like how in the panel it shows the crew together and blackbeard alone, maybe foreshadowing his 3 personalities

By far my favourite scene in the series, everything was set up so perfectly for this moment to hit as hard as it did. Looking for Sky island, Bellamy insulting those who dream, Luffy refusing to fight. And then the speech, that single scene that is able to encapsulate everything One Piece is about and why I love it so much. Blackbeard is my favourite villain of all time
