There is a bit of a saying in the OP community. If the Arlong Park arc doesn't hit you in the feels and hook you, than the chance of you getting hooked later on is small. This is the arc that made me see that OP was special. I loved the Baratie arc and liked everything before that. But this is the arc that made me commit to One Piece long term. And now I am caught up to the anime and I'm reading the manga, when new chapters come out. If you want to try One Piece at least stick through Arlong Park. And if it's not for you, it just isn't. Lucky has cried about 10 times already watching this show, so I think he is hooked.

Everytime I watched this episode, it never fails to make me cry. It evokes the same feeling as the first time I watched it 23 years ago😭! As a testament that OP is really legendary, for every reactor, new person, and new fan that watched this episode, the impact is the same! The episode that I finally conceded that I love One Piece! Watch out for all the backstories, there are tons that will make you weep, angry, and triggered!

Nami telling Luffy to keave wasn't because he and the crew represented hope and she was upset that she failed. Her emotions had gone way beyond any form of rationality by this point. Nami at that moment was at the very bottom of the pit of despair. It wasn't that she failed, but that everything ahe worked for, everything she sacrificed, all of the pain and suffering she had endured for the last 8 years now meant nothing and, worse, everyone she cared about, that she had sacrificed so much for, were about to die. This was her lashing out in her overwhelming sense of helplessness and hopelessness, purely reacting out of desperate frustration at yet another thing (Luffy being there despite her telling him to leave earlier) that was beyond her ability to do anything about. And it's not until she has essentially cried herself out that she latches on to that one last desperate hope and asks for help.

@@bbflegend2223 for the first time watching One piece it was "damn right" version for me, and after that seeing "of course I will" version was always kinda meh, because I really wanted for Luffy to scream "damn right". Like Nami, the only thing you needed is to consider us as your nacama, which means telling us about your problem. And he just waited the whole arc for these words, he even didn't want to listen her backstory, like he don't even want any other reason to put his life on the line saving her, just her words for help is enough, that's why the moment hits me differently in this version, the same with Lucky I think, but I understand your point tho

Yeah this arc, this backstory and this scene made it for me, I understood why people hold it with such high regard. It was in manga form for me though but I still cried like a bish. And then I watched these moments in anime and cried again. I'd say even though in general OP manga >>> OP anime but in a few occasions anime surpasses it and delivers huge emotional punch, mostly due to voice acting and music.
