Alright the thing about the Goku clone alegations is rather interesting. Oda mentions how he used Goku as his main inspiration when making Luffy meaning things like Luffy's unending stomach and carefree nature was intentionally inspired by Goku's unending stomach and carefree nature. However, Oda does what everyone should do when taking inspiration and that's the fact he added his own twist on it. Luffy is basically an exaggerated version of Goku to the point they're barely similar. Also his character development has led him in a different direction than Goku's led him.

I think that definitely is a major difference between Luffy and Goku too. Both are similar in that they do lose fights and train to get stronger to overcome adversity, but the difference between Goku and Luffy is earned strength. Luffy can get his ass handed to him, and you genuinely cheer for him when he actually puts in the effort to learn a new technique or gain the strength and skill needed to defeat his opponent. He assesses for weaknesses and can fight smart, which in many cases (Crocodile and Kaido, etc) still almost isn't enough, and he gets clapped again. His strength was earned all because of his own merits, and he wasn't gifted power because of any advantages. He's human. Goku on the other hand literally spends all his free time training and fighting, and yet still constantly gets put down by his opponents, and you'd think that at somepoint during any of this he'd try a new strategy in order to overcome these troubling circumstances, that Goku would at least attempt to find a weakness or fight with just a semblance of creativity, NOPE. If it aint broke don't fix it is Goku's motto because too many fights where he should've keeled over dead, he doesn't because of plot armor and because of the genetic crutch that is the Zenkai Boost, he just gets a free win via increased strength or a shiny new, completely unoriginal form with pretty much 0 consequences, that allows him to simply punch his opponent harder than before and win.

Excellent. BTW, both Luffy and Goku, as well as a number of other anime protagonists have an older source: Monkey from 'The Journey to the West'. If you like adventure anime, I HIGHLY recommend reading this Chinese classic because it is basically just that - a super powerful monkey and a crew of other oddballs getting into fights with demons and various hilarious shennanigans for four volumes as they go on a quest for some Buddhist scriptures. The chapters even end with a "next time, on...", only of course it's "We don't know if Monkey was able to save Tripitaka from the bull demon. Let's read on to find out!"

I'll be the one to give context to Luffy smackin' the shit outta Vivi, it was because Vivi, being a princess, had not yet come to terms with the fact that people were likely going to die in this coup that Crocodile was orchestrating. Luffy, being the man he is, realized that he had to break vivi's childish dreams of a bloodless battle and made it clear that he and his crew were not going to get anywhere by running around like Vivi wanted to and had to go fight Crocodile directly
