When I heard this theme after Selen died and Maxim pleaded with Iris / Erim to tell him how to stop the Fortress of Doom from colliding into his home and son, I was gifted with this song. Never in a video game has a song made me want to spring into action. Even though this wasn't a timed event, I still treated it as if a narrow clock was ticking without a single second to waste. I yearn for that experience to return.

@@jordanyoung745 the remake was a completely different story and whatever, it's fine to be that, but it's not this story and honestly, doesn't hold a candle to the sacrifice that selan and maxim made especially when you couple it with one of the best songs to ever come out of the system.

Relics of a time forgotten. When stories, and the music, mattered more than how pretty it looked. How many games since the dawn of the Playstation era have had the kind of power these did? This is one of 4 games that had a story powerful enough to evoke every emotion within me in it's strongest form. And all 4 came from the SNES. May those days live on. And may they one day return.

This nostalgic feeling is making me want to do a "little rant" on current day open world or RPG games. So, sorry in advance I miss the days of great story telling. Hints at greater plots you never know anything of or about, getting so much character development backed by maybe one of the best j-RPG soundtrack ever made. When you start off innocent not knowing what a absolute shitstorm you are entering, betrayal, romance and even good character development for the "bad guy's" only a few games manage to get me close to nostalgic tears. Chrono trigger, secret of mana, legend of zelda (link's awakening, link to the past and OoT) lufia 2, FF5 and 7 and even if it wasn't popular Secret of Evermore. Those games set a golden standard for gaming that is super rare now a day's. It's almost like game developers are totally out of touch with this game genre. They drop in too much freeplay possibilities or too little, either a clusterfuck of a story or a very linear one. Soundtracks that are basically just bombastic movie scores that forget that small and subtle shifts can set a tone. Character development that is just plain and predictable. The fact that action can bring a set of consequences that you have to face. Take the composer of Chrono triggers soundtrack, that man worked himself to near dead to reach what he thought would be a perfect experience, he had stomach ulcers due to being overworked and stressed. He made one of the most integrid intriguing and fitting pieces to lift the game to a new level (and lets not forget he had to make about 50% a new due to his hardware crashing..). Now we just ramp in a bombastic over the top soundtrack that is musically simple but easy to listen to (example the OST that uematsu composed for FF and the others except for FFVX), just for the sake of being able to release 5 games in 5 years. same with graphics, it's all the same for new release, just follow the one game that has made a breakthrough this or last year. Look at all those new Bethesda games or Ubisoft.. "Hey Fortnite hit a big time, maybe we should make a bleak environment and add in some fluorescent colors." And there goes Fallout and Farcry. They should stop holding gamers hands while playing with tips, tutorials, on screen question marks, repetitive puzzle solving etc. Make something a little hard again, stop spoon feeding the player what to do. Make them walk around a big world just to talk and play what you thought were random NPC storylines. But were actually the key to finding your next location, so they finally give you a random hint or key or something.

So what I'm getting out of this conversation is that you don't understand that Lufia 2 is the very beginning of the series. As far as we know, this is the original appearance of the Sinistrals. Lufia 2 and Breath of Fire 2 are the only RPGs that actually made me emotional... I'm just a sucker for heroes who sacrifice themselves for others. Though it's hard for me to choose which one was more sad... Lufia 2 had such a happy adventurous team. Maxim saving the world getting married and then had a child. In the end his wife dies and he uses all his life force to save his child. Bof2 had Ryu who became an orphen at a young age with no idea what happened to his family since they just disappeared. 10 years later... in the end(canon ending) he kills his father, never realized his sister was Patty(no proper reunion), meets his mom for a brief time before she sacrifices herself to open the gates... goes and saves the world. Then after all that turns into a Dragon to sleep and protect the gates, as his friends try to stop him. God BoF2... to me the worst part is he never gets a proper sibling reunion even though they met countless times without recognizing each other. The closest thing you get is her screaming, "I want my big brother!" when she was about to be killed.
