in 2019 almost 2020 i think 2-2-2 Business class is unacceptable... direct aisle access from all seats is a huge perk. This was a cost cutting move.

Flew this exact flight a couple of days ago. The LH Lounges at IAD are in serious need of upgrades and refurbishments. LH415 departs so late, that all passengers are directed to use the first class lounge instead. Even that lounge is small with poor food choices and limited seating. WiFi is also slow. On board, the seat is really showing it’s age. There is almost no privacy, cloning over a neighbor to get out sucks when people are asleep, and the seat itself doesn’t provide a enough support in the mid-back area when in bed mode. I was unable to get any real sleep on the way, just a couple of restless hours of tossing and turning. The cabin crew were excellent and very attentive. Meals were served promptly and efficiently, so passengers had time to get some rest. The meal quality was OK, but could definitely stand some further investment/improvement (such as not being served on a tray) The 350 is a great plane to fly on. So quiet, and so much more comfortable than older types. I especially love the big windows. I’m looking forward to the new LH J product, and I think once it is installed on the 350, it will be a huge upgrade to the whole experience.

Sebastian Chan Lufthansa isn’t the most fancy airline but a great business travel airline, once they lost my suitcase they paid me 4000€ compensation without no hassle.

They opted for a renewal of the cabin on the launch of 777-X 2020/2021. Too late when others upgraded their interior already. Big miss for a supposedly 5 star scamtracks award. (ref: Josh Cahill)

Well the launch still hasnt happened and who knows when it will. The fact that the rest of the fleet will only follow AFTER the launch makes realize that these seats are here to stay for a loooooooooooooooong time still. I am guessing that maybe the last of its kind would only be retired by the end 2022 or 2023 - that is really bad news.

Great video Jeb, I really like Lufthansa's color pallet in the seats, however I feel when you are paying a high price for business class, then the seats should probably be in a 1-2-1 configuration. After seeing several reviews on Lufthansa's A-350 Business Class I am convinced they missed the boat with their outdated seating configuration. When one is paying Business Class fare a 1-2-1 configuration is the norm nowadays. I refuse to pay for the privilege of climbing over my neighbor's legs! There also is absolutely no privacy for the passenger in this archaic arrangement. Sadly, it seems like this great airline is skimping on its traditional superior service to increase its profit margin. They don't seem to comprehend that they are losing passengers like myself who will gladly switch to another airline that gives you what you are paying for. you can do 2-2-2/ 2-3-2 if you're emirates 777 or you decide to go with the apex suites as your business class like korean air, Oman air or JAL in some of their aircraft.

@@Onew92 well British airways came out with reverse herringbone seats on their a350-1000 and are in the refurb process for their other aircraft with the same seats so they got the leg up for sure on Lufthansa. If you're gonna have 2-2-2 or 2-3-2 seats in business class it at least has to be like emirates, Turkish airlines type seats or the Apex suites . Those seats at least its a straight forward bed with no constricted foot space and in the case of apex suites you even get direct isle access for everyone.

Jeb, we just flew back through Munich on the 30th of November having been in Vienna for a week and half for the Christmas Markets, etc. and I can tell you I was distinctly unhappy with the whole secondary screening process though I don't question its necessity. The transit over to the H gates from K was not without issue as our first train decided to go haywire so we had to exit, go back up and over to the other side and hop on another train. We availed ourselves of the self-screening passport machines which worked fine so that was convenient. However, the staff at the H gates were very surly and there was no separate line for business class passengers so we joined a pretty lengthy queue which moved at varying paces - seemed woefully understaffed for the # of flights leaving at the same time for various US destinations (Houston, Denver, Washington, Chicago). I recognized the lounge you were in immediately as we used that one as well albeit after arriving on our inbound flight from IAD as we had a lengthy layover in MUC prior to our flight to Vienna. I will have to re-think transiting through MUC again although next year we have no choice because we will be vacationing there (attending 2020 Oberammergau Passion Play among many other things).

I liked the info about Lufthansa’s choice to provide exterior camera views as part of the IFE. I definitely would have enjoyed seeing more if the flight had not been at night. The cockpit “pilot view” cameras on American’s DC-10s were always a favourite feature for me back in the day.

Funny you mention about US carriers and the seatbelt sign usage, I couldn’t believe how many times Hawaiian turned it on between SYD and HNL. Down here in Aus there has to be some substantial bumps before they turn on the sign. Great video as always!

I love Munich's airport. US Army stationed in Germany for nearly 5 years. I once made it from my parents house outside of Philly to my base in far eastern Germany in alittle than 12 hours. Crazy fast!

Connecting in Frankfurt from Chicago on our way to berlin was a nightmare and we barely made our flight (at least we got to fly the 747-8i though). Coming back to Chicago through Munich on the a350 was a much better experience. What an amazing plane!

I've only flown through the old Munich airport years ago. It was cramped, dark and felt like a basement. I flew in on a TWA 747-100, so that was cool. I just realized that I'm really old.

Agree about the layout of the cabin. I haven’t flown Lufthansa since I was a child in the 90s but remember them fondly. I think this business class product is still superior to Emirate’s 777 business at 2-3-2 configuration which I’m flying with my wife next month from Chicago. I’m using miles but would be disappointed more had I paid the cash premium for that crowded cabin. Great video Jeb.

Flown the A350 from Munich to Singapore on Economy last year. Munich Airport is great and I enjoyed the 12 hour flight to Singapore. Cathay's A350 is pretty much the same experience :-)

Great report, as always. Munich, absolutely. My transfers in Frankfurt rank at the top of the worst experiences. Hard-stands, shuttle buses, confusing security procedures, lack of toilets. I hope to never see Frankfurt again in my life, but I welcome the chance to see Munich.

Agree fully with your fasten your seatbelts comment. Probably prefer Munich as Frankfurt can get crowded and the connections we are usually making seem a mile away. Although I am a loyal Lufthansa flyer, it is sad that they didn’t do a new business class for the 350. Have a great new year!

I flew on the Lufthansa 747-8 and it was awesome. I would like to fly on the a350 next time. Best flight was over twenty years ago on a old 767. Plenty of room and a comfy 2-3-2 in economy! AA I believe

I flew from Frankfurt to Atlanta last week, and had a similar reaction to the general disorder and inefficiency involved in getting from check in to the gate. It took close to 2 hours with no stops in between. The flight itself was great though on a Delta 767.

That means you flew from Terminal 2 what is in my oppinion the overcroweded Terminal but also consider that all cheap carrier are based there. On Terminal 1 i got with a buisness class ticket in 20min through. But it is pretty much depending on the time someone flys.

Having connected multiple times through Frankfurt and Munich, I definitely recommend MUC. FRA can be a zoo and usually there is quite a bit of walking involved. I also seem to prefer the MUC-based crews. About the lounges: in FRA my preferred Business Lounge is near gate A26, on the upper level. There have been occasions where I couldn't find a single seat at the MUC (Schengen) Business lounges. Then they (reluctantly) allowed me to go the non-schengen lounge. (Make sure to check the passport rules for those with EU-visa.)

I just flew from LAX to LED on an A380 business class through FRA and it was amazing because of our flight attendant. I was especially pleased that they started giving mattresses and pajamas however their seats are too old. I like Lufthansa and I like 2-2-2 configurations (like Ethiopian) because you can get an ottoman and don’t have to shove your feet in a box, however Lufthansa dosent do this ottoman strategy. I don’t mind that they didn’t change the seats on the A350, I just think that they ARE TOO NARROW! Look forward to flying Lufthansa and Austrian more

Lufthansa used the A350 to upgrade it's Economy Cabin which is a much nicer experience than in their other wide body planes. They planned their new business class product with the inauguration of the 777x in their passage fleet but due to delays caused by Boeing this will happen not before 2021

Great video. I personally wouldn't like that seat. I'd prefer one a bit further forward so I can look back at that giant engine inlet, or further back slightly behind the wing so I could look out over the wing and watch the flaps, ailerons and all the different flight control surfaces move.

Munich was incredibly clean and organized when I went through on my way back to the states. I flew into Frankfurt on my way in and in my opinion it was much more chaotic and even a bit filthy. Munich all the way.

I always love flying lufthansa. They never failed to provide a great crew and nice service to me. But I totally agree the business product needs an update urgently. I don't get why they wait for their 777x... Also, I love their economy seats in the A350 and the IFE. I've also never really had a problem with crowded lounges, neither in MUC, DUS or FRA, but that might have been luck...

I have to agree that Lufthansa really missed the mark with not refreshing the biz class cabin. I really enjoyed flying on their A380 with this exact same biz class product a few years ago, but its really starting to look long in the tooth. Also, I've never experienced mind blowing service on Lufthansa. Its a lot like United...sometimes its good, sometimes its "meh" but you never leave the plane thinking "wow, what a wonderful crew."

Usually prefer FRA over MUC. Feel like there are usually more flight options from the states with more competitive pricing. With high speed rail, can usually get to where you need to within 2-3 hours (3 to Munich). That being said, if flying non-Lufthansa flight buses and extensive walking through/to the different terminals can be quite annoying if bound to a tight schedule.
