Love the close ups of the 109's, and the shot of them "gathering" above the airfield. The 109's are from JG2, "Richthofen", the "R" badge on the side of Karl Ebert's 109, indicate that, and the taxiing 110's are from 1/ZG2, so this could be Amiens-Glisy airfield, where ZG2 moved to in June/July 1940. Great amazing footage as usual!

Again great footage. The badge at 0:08 "thumb pressing a top hat" was designed by Ofw Klee & Lt Schmidt for 7/JG 2; 1:27 "Bernburger Jäger" (hunter of Bernburg) on Bf 110 C of I/ZG 2; 2:05 "Jesauer Kreuz" (cross of Jesau/East Prussia) on Bf 109 E-4 of I/JG 1; 2:20 Dornier Do 17 of an unknown unit.

The Bf 110 is such a beautiful plane of the early-war period!

You really get a sense of the lumbering girth of the 110 in this airfield footage. Its Achilles heel in the air, just before that revelation would come the hard way.

1:09 The bf110s look really cool, but performed poorly in the Battle of Britain where it was carrying out a role it was not really accustomed for. Heavy fighters are my favourite aircraft of that era. The Westland Whirlwind and Kawasaki Ki-45 being particular favourites.

Must have been an incredible time. A rush incompareable to anything. Friends raised up from the ground to be loyal and courageous, the newest planes and weapons, getting the upper hand on your oppressors for a few short years. Things were looking up, and early WW2 vids bristle with that optimistic energy. The world was going to change with the Rchild 'credit' slave system dismantled. Beyond depressing to see what happened.

Was there a corresponding Luftwaffen SS?

Hermann Göring was one of the founders of the SS and he personally gave it the name "SS" (from 'Schutzstaffel' - the protective echelon in Luftwaffe, which were guarding bombers from enemy aircrafts), so you can consider the whole Luftwaffe as part of it.
@johannesschmidt9580Ай бұрын
@@tornadoman1054 Göring was not one of the founders. He only suggested the name Schutzstaffel in reference to an airplane formation as you said. The founder was Julius Schreck. He is also generally referred to as the father of the SS. The SS had a military arm, the so-called Waffen SS. However, this did not include any air force units apart from paratroopers. The air force was a sub-unit of the Wehrmacht and organizationally separate from the SS. Although, of course, it fought together with the SS in many theaters of war.
@tornadoman1054Ай бұрын
@@johannesschmidt9580 oh, yeah, Göring created Gestapo, which was heavily connected to the SS,. My bad.
