You make the best IL-2 series tutorials, hands down. I really mean that. I've been out of flight sims for a long while, and there's been some real disasters with me getting back into it again, especially trying to use rudder pedals instead of a twist stick. Your videos have helped immensely. So I really appreciate what you do.

For steering, worth noting that the controls are the same as those for steering your plane when the 'auto-level' feature is turned on. I use the my mapped keys for that on the HOTAS rather than the mouse. Thanks - I used your PE2 vid to learn Russian bombers and have had a lot of success, including in TAW, and had really wondered how the auto-function worked on the German aircraft. Saved he hours of experimenting to get it right!

Yeah good point about the steering, if you don't want to click it use the shortcut
@andrewsnowdon75364 жыл бұрын
I greatly appreciate this tip about the "shortcut keys", as I usually find myself scrambling to enter information or adjust information (I'm a new pilot to the game and love the bigger birds) as I approach the target site. I know that I have had a couple misses due to using my mouse to adjust steering while it should've been over the DROP button waiting. Thanks!

Very interesting. Does the game supports other bomb loads for the He 111? Like the external SC 2000?
@RequiemsACTL4 жыл бұрын
It does support a range of bombloads like those huge bombloads...at that point though it doesn't matter exactly where you hit LOL

The bomb options for He111 are the SC 50, SC 250, SC 500, SC 1000, SC 1800, and SC 2500.

This bombsight is very strange,i think i just dont get it quit yet, just have to keep practicing,i guess its the auto part i dont understand, once your values are inputted you should be able to see the town,click a button and it will start tracking and make its own corrections and once the town is reached bam!! bombs away, that would be auto to me,lol, making corrections till the last minute would be manual,i think when they designed this they just had to compromise to have the same bombsight on every plane with minor variations. During the war German U boats had a decent onboard computer of sorts that did some calculations, the ones we had (american subs) were bad to the bone, you almost had to only point and shoot after you inputted certain things,anyhow man love your videos,thank you for all the help you give the community.

Excellent tutorial, I watch your channel with great interest. Aviation is my passion. I have an important question for you, perhaps your answer will clarify an issue that is interpreted differently by many people. Whether the bombsight altimeter use QNH? We can set the QFE (it's AGL, 0 meters or feets and then we have airfield elevation) or QNE (1013,25hPa - 29,92inHg - 760mmHg in my opinion this setting is only useful for maintaining proper separation, for example, between planes flying in formation) pressure in the cockpit altimeter. When we click default LAlt+A on fly we can refresh QFE to nearest airport preassure. If bombsight altimeter show us AMSL (QNH) to determine the exact relative height difference we need target elevation right? For flat, lowland terrain, the error will be small, and you can use the AGL setting from cocpit alt or is it better to set the height from bombsight alt without subtract the difference in height. Sorry for me english, i hope that you understand what i mean. I send greetings!

With a large bomb load like that, it is better to aim at the front of the target rather than the center like you have done here. Also a good tip is to open the bomb bay doors a bit earlier as they can introduce small drag which slows you down and messes up your aim if you do it just before the bomb release. Excellent video btw.!
@RequiemsACTL4 жыл бұрын
I probably would have been better off aiming in front of it rather than the center, but I find it hard to determine the bomb spread so I hedged it a little. It would have avoided that little bit of collateral damage to the house on the other side of the river. If I was using the higher number of 50kg bombs I would definitely lead in front of the target. Fair point about the bomb bay doors too, they could have been opened a little earlier.

Hey there! Sorry I didn't know where else to ask, but I found your wing line bombing video helpful and pretty awesome. I'm really getting into the DCS Bf109 but can't find any level bombing tutorials out there, especially with the new delayed fuzes. Have you flown that in DCS at all?

Wow this helps me do level bombing in the he 111 cause i used manual its alot of work plus since im new to the game would miss target by a few hundred meters or more
@XGhettotacoX4 жыл бұрын
Personally I'll stick to manual mode. I'd definitely fatfinger the controls and slide my crosshairs off target lol. Its not like you have smart munitions so you have to sit there in the bombardier station until drop time anyway, at which point i'd rather rely on my own crosshair aiming skills. Nice vid tho, I might try it out next time I'm on TAW

@RequiemsACTL4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I don't get to use them often either. Maybe if there more airstarts for bombers I would probably go for them. It would save spending a long time just to climb up to altitude.

The only thig I don't understand, why is the auto tracking constantly drifting? In the Norden, once you set everything right, tracking will absolutely not drift away from the point chosen... Any clue why the drift in auto no matter what? Is it maybe due to QNH altitude used instead of nearest friendly field QFE (changeable by LAlt-A by the way), assuming relatively flat terrain of course?...

I wouldn't read too much into how these bombsights work. It's a very "gamey" feature

@@RequiemsACTL Strangely enough, I was told that the older IL-2 Cliffs of Dover has a more accurate depiction of level bombing with a few more variables. It also uses 'clickable' versions of the real bomb sight controls. Here is a link to a tutorial from that series: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHulooRsrM9jb7c Also, I've never played it so not plugging, but CLoD is coming out with an expansion, supported by 1C, that simulates the battles for North Africa called 'Tobruk.' Its in Beta now and due out in a couple months.

Why is your view direction to the right and it still hits
@RequiemsACTL4 жыл бұрын
It's something where the view direction seems to change the second the bombs drop. As long as the view is on the right position until the bombs drop it's fine.

The auto mode on this game is just useless. Much better to use manual drop and that way you will be more precise and you can make more than one drop on the target. The only use I find for the Auto mode is to be able to drop when there are some clouds there you can fix the target if you are able to see that between the clouds for a brief moment. When that happens the drop will be not precise so I made some tables for myself taking in mind the corrections depending the angle you are able to fix the target on the sight. That is much better and I manage to drop sometimes like that.
@Starcos4 жыл бұрын
Auto mode is not bad, but you have to be really precise with your altitude. And it works backwards - no matter, what you instruments show, if your speed is set correctly, dial your altitude to the point where the auto bombsight stays stationary. You can notice in the video, that his sight moves a bit, and his bombs do fall a little short.
@geramos1094 жыл бұрын
@@Starcos depending the distance you fix your auto you need to change your values for the sight to stay fixed. When the sight stays fixed does not mean the bomb will drop on the cross. If i want to use the auto is for fix and forget and that is why I made my tables. I know how much I need to change on the values depending if I fix target on 60° 55° 50° etc.
@RequiemsACTL4 жыл бұрын
I understand what you're getting at Geramos. That's a good tip too mentioning about using auto to if the target is obstructed by a cloud and it's very cool you made your own correction tables to use. I'm far from a altitude bombing expert so I like auto for the easiest way which lets me drop all my bombs off in one pass to hit the area. I'm not expecting perfectly guided bombs, but I know that my bombs will generally hit what I'm aiming at.
