Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninov must have had a special relationship with the number 2. Symphony, piano concerto, elegiac trio: those marked with the number two are absolute masterpieces. Thanks to Nikolai Lugansky, Mischa Maisky and Julian Rachlin, for this exceptional performance.

Rachlin is great too! 🙂 If you are not convinced of his talent, you might perhaps listen to his cadenza, in Shostakovich's violin concerto n°1(it starts at minute 29), with Orchestre national de France...

@@nathalieroger6307 oh it's not that i'm not convinced of his talent, i think he was brilliant as well!😄 I just didn't mention him in my comment because i'm a big admirer of particulary Lugansky and Maisky, and i didn't know that they played together, so I didn't mean to menospreciate Rachlin!

I showed this piece years ago to someone who was yet to hurt me immeasurably. That terrible person made an analysis that is still with me to this day. He said that the recapitulation is like watching your own funeral from afar.

Wonderful performance, my favorite is Kogan/Luzanov/Svetlanov, i didnt find a performance as dark as that for 3 years but maybe I'll change despite Rachlin's three bar skip at one of the most beautiful modulation at 17:56, but the whole performance pay it, i think 😃.
