Small addition: putting the depots in that position (on the exit track just past the X at the front of the station) only hides the depots from the main network if you have 90° corners disabled in the options (Settings -> Vehicles -> Routing -> Forbid trains and ships from making 90° turns -> Off) Good episode as always. Looking forward to the BBH build

Very true. I'm just very used to 90* turns off

@@aquila7561 Yeah if you have 90* on it becomes very tricky to hide anything from trains

Thanks for the answer! :) Everytime I learn something about OpenTTD. I am enjoying this series and waiting for the next episodes (especially the logic trains. I saw them on reddit and those look interesting) :)

A tip to avoid having to check on your stations constantly - you can open station list and sort it by total waiting cargo, then resize it so that it only shows 4 or 5 stations with the most stuff on them. Keep that window open and pinned somewhere in the corner

i'm really enjoying this series so far and im learning a lot so please keep them coming! I can't wait for the sideline hubs next episode, would you by chance be able to explain them as you're building them?
@LugnutsK5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, at least for the first one I want to try to explain and built it in real time. I want to make a proper BBH/SLH tutorials so this will be kinda like a test run I suppose.

@@LugnutsK that would be amazing ive learned a lot watching you so that would be really good

Great video lugnuts, only thing is I think you should use some streetcars from the oil refinery to that town next to it just as a temporary solution and also to grow it incase you want to do passengers just so you start using the oil to make goods Edit: also can you explain to me on the coop discord about the path signals thingy at end of stations? I’m a bit confused
@Giekeme5 жыл бұрын
I think he mentioned it a little bit the first time he did it. When the trains come out of the depot without the path signal they would reserve the entire junction at the front of the station, meaning no other trains can enter/leave. The path signal separates the junction from the station and because the backside of a path signal is a pathfinding penalty it hides the depot from the mainline. This can be a good thing and a bad thing, no trains going to nearest depot and getting lost, but because of the pathfinding penalty the trains will always prefer the other platform, unless its already occupied resulting in trains not getting auto-replaced. The depot at the exit track is a better option imo.

I wonder why there is still no "fix" for map colours. Actually I never looked at this, maybe ppl are using it. But ye, its really bad to see some structures on the map. Also I dont really like soo early years of the game, where everything is super slow. Tho it will have huge advantage for us when u get into 2000s. There will be tons of fast trains, so many junctions, maybe 4 or 6ways!. I am super hyped for that
@LugnutsK5 жыл бұрын
Just checked, there is a way to change the map colors in the settings, but perhaps that will just make different industries hard to see. And it will take some time to get fast trains, but at least that means there will be plenty of episodes :P

I really don't understand the terms "main line", "backbone hub" and "side hub", or whatever the terms are. It all just looks like a mess of train lines and junctions.
@LugnutsK5 жыл бұрын
The "Organizing HUGE Junctions" video explains exactly what those terms mean if you haven't watched it yet. But TLDW, backbone hubs are the main junctions, sideline hubs are smaller junctions that serve primary industries. Personally I think "junction" is clearer than "hub" but I didn't invent the names :P
@linuxgaming695 жыл бұрын
@@LugnutsK I went back and watched it again. It all looks good and clearly runs well, but I honestly don't think I could get my head around it. Saying that I don't play co-op games at the moment... but I will! Keep the videos coming. :-D

Great content. One suggestion though: could you consider adding some background music for non-timelapes? I think it could enrich the videos nicely.
@dessheehan64685 жыл бұрын
I was also going to suggest this, maybe after the introduction chat put the music playing and adjust the volume then between the timelapses and commentary.
@mmneander13163 жыл бұрын
I prefer videos to not have background music during segments containing spoken comment. Easier to follow the spoken comment that way. I think this video series so far has done things perfectly.
