My family's cat was fascinated by deer. I remember one morning seeing a herd of deer feeding in our backyard. There was a trampoline nearby, and I noticed the cat on it (I'd never seen him there before, either). He was on the edge nearest to the herd, and would roll on his back, writhe around a bit while pawing at the air, before righting himself to see if the deer were watching before repeating, again and again. The deer were just casually chewing their grass, watching him absently, no doubt wondering what the little freak was on about. I was too tbf, but with toast.

I'm wondering how old this precious baby was. More than a week? Month? Legs are wobbly so I'm curious if it could see very well. (May use the sense of smell & hearing just as well but deer eyes are large for a reason.) Also naive & curious, obviously lost. I've seen juveniles much older (no spots) wander & graze too far into public areas & figured they just lacked the fear & wisdom older ones have. Its mama could've been allowing it to learn from experience while watching from safe distance. Love seeing wildlife as long as not in danger. So cool that animals all have their own instincts, even this young.

skim rizzle Just a pat is unlikely to result in that, but it is still true with varying degrees that the more contact the baby animal has with other animals, the less likely it is that they are accepted back into the litter. This is especially true in the case of newborn kittens for example. If the mother smells someone else's smell on them, she may reject them entirely. Best to give the animals space and comfort from afar as much as possible until they reach adulthood. If they're domesticated, the mother is likely to present her litter to you herself when she feels ready, as most cat owners will know.

Yes, this is an extremely cute video and I would definitely have a lot of trouble keeping my hands away from such an adorable fawn but it is actually *very harmful* for them when humans physically touch them. This is because their family will reject the fawn if it smells slightly foreign (from your petting), abandoning the fawn to die. Unless you are 100% sure the fawn has no family and may die without your assistance, please refrain from touching them.

That is a very adorable fawn. We had a pet fawn like that when I was a little kid. The mother was ran over by a semi truck. My dad's childhood friend found it and brought it to us to care for it. It still had spots. We named it Bambi. We bottle fed the fawn and treated it well. We lived in the country-side, but since it was still young it stayed in at night. It would climb up on the sofa and sit in your lap and watch T.V. We had potty trained it so when it needed to perform bodily functions it would knock on our front door and make an "ehhh" sound similar to in the video. We had a Rottweiler and a Beagle that it would play with outside, which we gave it plenty of time to play outside and space to run. However one day while we were outside our neighbor's dog got loose and came over for a visit. It wasn't so friendly towards the deer as our dogs were. It chased Bambi away and we never found him again.

Momma isn't likely to make a big issue. Sadly, the most common response among many prey animals when a young one appears to be facing its imminent demise is for the mother to go off looking for a mate to crank out replacements. I've rescued a fawn smaller than this one and carried him out of the way of farm machinery to his mother, and she was reluctant to even stick around to see if he would survive the encounter. @@zacharyreynolds4303 record is 22 years but natural death comes at 6.5, i would say there is a chance but there really isnt if the fawn is willing to just walk up to things without protection

For others that come along later and read this: you actually shouldn't handle or mess with a fawn, because when their born and for a extended period afterwards, they have NO scent. (It protects them from predators) If you can, just make sure it's safe and somewhere where it won't come to harm, and check back-if you are worried-to make sure it's alright. If it's still around and no signs of care, it may be orphaned. In which case, contact your local wildlife agency.

Incorrect. Fawns do have a scent and their mothers can reapply it if they lose it.

I think she needs food and her mom isn't providing or is unable to. If you ever see a fawn like this call your local wild life rehabilitation clinic and ask what they think you should do.

KZbin does it automatically if you enable it, that's why it looks like ass and noticeably distorts and wobbles the entire screen
