Im März 1983 befand sich Luigi Nono im Schwarzwald zu einer Arbeitsphase im Freiburger Experimentalstudio. Zusammen mit dem damaligen Leiter Hans-Peter Haller erforschte er neue Möglichkeiten der klanglichen Zeit- und Raumklanggestaltung und widmete sich Studien zur Live-Elektronik. Dabei heraus kam u. a. Guai ai gelidi mostri, ein Werk der Extreme, in dem Nonos Bedürfnis, definierte Klangorte und -gesten zu vermeiden, konkret wird. Alle acht Interpreten, die dem Publikum gegenüber in einem Bogen plaziert sind, werden solistisch behandelt und durch Mikrophone verstärkt. Ihre Klänge, live-elektronisch transformiert, verteilen sich über acht möglichst unsymmetrisch angebrachte Lautsprecher im Raum. In das fragile Klangnetz der Musiker tauchen gedehnte Silben der Altstimmen ein. Nono vertont dabei keineswegs den gesamten Text von Massimo Cacciari, sondern wählt einzelne für ihn bedeutungsvolle Worte aus. Urplötzlich sprengen Bläserakkorde mehrmals das unruhige Klangkontinuum, diese Attacken liegen an der Grenze des noch akustisch Erträglichen.

Pretty sure you are a troll considering you are called Llamadeus, but your comment is so funny if it was serious it had me bursting out in laughter. This is one of the most awful, hard to listen to things I have ever stumbled upon and as far as I am aware it is supposed to convey the horrors of the Holocaust. So calling it beautiful music that you listen to when you are melancholic is probably the biggest insult that you could possibly give the piece.
