Bravo!! Mind is blown. Is anyone else here in 2022 because of Emerson Lake and Palmer? This was diabolically brilliant. 👏💥🖤💥

If it wasn't for ELP I might not have known of the original. I like both versions, original, and ELP's. When I first listened to Tocatta it fillowed Jerusalem. Jerusalem made me think of the glories of Heaven, but Tocatta made me think of the War of Chaos which came before the Creation, a different kind of beauty.

Keith Emerson had encountered resistance from the publishers of this suite. What did he do? He flew to Switzerland where Alberto Ginestra resided, played the ELP recording and he was impressed and granted him permission to include this suite on Brain Salad Surgery.

ELP does in a three-piece what this 30+ orchestra does in the original. Not better or worse but complementary. Love the complements!

Absolutely complementary: one is electric, the other is acoustic... ;)

What happened? He couldn't memorize the piece? I don't know but the orchestra seemed to lag and the pianist didn't "push" the tempo the way I've heard it and played it. In fact in some parts they are off! And at 4:04 he completely fakes the difficult glissandos written. lol Sorry but Jaou Carlos Martin's recording set the bar for how to play and interpret this concerto.
@rominahoffmann10 жыл бұрын
Many years ago, I was present at Ascot’s Washington performance playing the same concert and also by hazard once again this time in Belo Horizonte, Brazil and I can repeat the same impression had Mr. F.Warren O’Reilly from the Washington Times (amongst others of the same opinion): “ASCOT,… played this finger-busting concerto with breath-taking brilliance. One is not likely to hear the final movement, Toccata concertata, played with cleaner articulation or more relentless drive”…..regarding the fact using or not musical score, for me it is not essential at all…I heard many times (amongst others) the great Sviatoslav Richter playing with the musical score in front of him and were recitals that the audience never will forget…finally comparing interpretations is an arid exercise because each artist is unique!
@Hervinbalfour10 жыл бұрын
Romina Hoffmann I have a right to an opinion and I also have a right to what I like to hear. Martins learned to play this concerto to the composers exact specifications learning it at 21 in only nine days. In fact Ginastera himself said no on has played it better since the premier. The tocatta is a fast driven dance based on the malambo. Having heard many malambo music Martins captures the essence of what Ginastera was looking for. Sorry I have to get criticized for MY OPINION....
@rominahoffmann10 жыл бұрын
Of course you have the right to express your opinion as myself mine! And just for your information Ginastera worked, revising with Ascot, this magnificent work from 1975 to 1982 in Geneva were both inhabited ….
