I'm a Barça fan but he's still my absolute all time favorite player. He already deserved the FIFA best player award in his last 2 seasons at Barça (which, together with his 1st season at Madrid, were the best of his career). In those 3 seasons he was unstoppable, an absolute beast and deserved the best player award in all 3 of them. He ended up getting the award immediately after moving to Madrid mainly because of all the noise and attention which the move generated. And he left Barcelona because in his last season he was already (by far) the best player of the squad but he still had a rookie contract and this was never upgraded despite all the promises (there were players on the bench earning much more!!). Also because Barça never thought that Madrid would pay such a high clause (at that time, the highest ever paid for a footballer). Wouldn't you move?

Funny. I'm a fan of him from childhood, but the first game which I saw was LC second leg vs Valencia in 2000. Than Euro 2000 and RM era. But there is almost nothing from Barca era on youtube. Along with Rivaldo I felt he was the best in the world for about 5 years. Only Figo's first season at Madrid (maybe his 4th) can match his level at Barca. In this sense he is very underated. The casual football fan often rates Figo according to his Galactico days where tbh he was in decline a lot - hence he is viewed as overrated by some. When Figo came on the scene I was living in Portugal. At that time there was Peixe and Figo in Sporting futebol clube. But Figo got the best deal by going to barca. I'm not going to lie, but he was a game changer! A first of his kind. I had never seen a winger do the things he does. His feints and dribbling were superior in its class - because almost certainly resulted in a goal. He had perfect form, balance, mentality, drive and vision. At that time then existed his greatest rival - Zidane! And for me this man was a God of football! In each generation there always existed two - rivals.
