I wanted to say that back then people said "Dirk is too soft" every other day. But you mentioned it. (I loved Dirk and Nash Dallas back then). They tend to forget that Luka isn't a burst player, his play-style reminded me more of Bodiroga's one (not an NBA player), slow but methodical. Secondly you can't ask for an offensive oriented player and your main volume scorer to put more effort into defense, because he'll still play garbage defense and he will be worse at offense, specially if his legs don't last that long. And lastly, Dallas was the best defensive team in WC playoffs (if I remember correctly) and still the way to beat them was to outscore them, instead of playing better defense (Minnesota told us), exactly because Luka can not be guarded or double teamed. PS: I forgot to mention that, in the whole playoffs run everybody could see that Kidd was hiding Luka behind the weakest player of the opponent team. And suddenly vs Celtics they shocked by the fact that Luka wasn't a good defender. Copium on the hype train.
