I live in Dallas and have seen him play in person over 50 times. The thing about Luka is his game is replicatable and sustainable over an entire 82 game season and playoffs because he’s precisely not athletic enough to abuse his body. The fact he isn’t athletic as other guys actually is an advantage for him because his game has to be slower and more precise. The other thing about him is his consistency. Even his bad games are good games in one way or another and that’s what really differentiates him above everybody else.
@handsome.idiot846 ай бұрын
I believe he IS that athletic, but his otherworldly fundamentals keep him exactly where he needs to be, and he doesn't NEED to/ it would possibly be WORSE if he went at the same pace as everyone, which is why he is so unguardable, nobody is used to his timing, and he changes it throughout the game so you never CAN get used to it. I totally agree with you that his game style is smart, and is probably preserving his body way better than most PGs, but I think the athleticism combined with his play reading ability make him incredibly uncomfortable to guard

Those who watch him play already knew he was unique. The proof of concept is him reaching the finals this year, but the writing was on the walls the entire time. That rookie season was only compared with those of greats. Next year he averaged Westbrook type numbers, and already had great moments as a playoff performer. Year after year he became better and better, and what some of us saw in the future was manifesting in the present: the clinching of the series vs Phoenix, the 60-21-10 game vs New York, Christmas game vs Phoenix, the 73 points against Atlanta. Now the playoffs series on bum legs and back, game winners and daggers, the defensive plays. It can be this year, or maybe it won't. But you can see it. Now and everytime you watch him play. Luka is the 2nd best player in the world. Jokic is still the best player in the world. It just happens that Jokic’s team folded, while Doncic’s team stepped up to the task. But don’t let that devalue what Doncic has been doing, the dude is an incredible player and already one of the all time playoff performers.
@damboulton6 ай бұрын
Completely agree, Jokic is still #1 but the Nuggets really let him down this post-season, anyone blaming Jokic individually for their 2nd round exit is ignorant or just hating. Now, if Luka goes on to dominate the finals and win FMVP; then we can have a conversation about best in the world.
@sgrey91816 ай бұрын
@@damboulton still probably won’t be a conversation imo, but I guess we’ll see when/if we get there

The nuggets and jokic have a better supporting cast than the mavs. The thing is that the wolves knew how to defend jokic and his teammates but they could do anything about luka. If luka manages to do what he has done all post season (making buckets and making his teammates improve) to the celtics and win it all I think he should be called the best player in the league atm

The rebounds are an impressive stat. You almost expect the points and assists given the amount of time he has the ball in his hands. But the rebounds? Instinct for where the ball will be just given the lifetime he has spent on the court?

The irony is he had bad ( for him ) series in rounds 1 and 2 because he was on one good leg. If the Mavs were able to play 45 win teams like Joker he’d be averaging 35/10/10 even with those injuries. He is the best player in the world. Joker and Gianni’s and Shai are just behind but behind indeed.

People always want to equate leaping ability as being the most important athletic attribute of a great basketball player. It isn't. Size combined with hand eye coordination is more important. Glad I could clear that up.

In general, international players that get drafted tend to be more “hungry” when playing. They work harder and want it more while the Americans are too comfortable at home.
