I like both long and short videos. The way I see it is there's a reason a video ends up being longer. From what I've noticed its because there's a either a bunch of sick highlights to show or you have to explain your scouting theories which I really enjoy. Pretty much only channel I've seen where you can find such good insightful and in depth scouting reports. Keep it up
@jaspal864 жыл бұрын
Ditto for me as well, have absolutely no problem with longer videos since they're always packed with good footage and even better insights but if it's something you might be worried about maybe start adding time stamps to cater to those who might not feel the same way so they can skip to the parts they are interested in. Anyways keep up the good work, really glad I came across your channel.

Man, I really appreciate the love you're giving the german players here. Really excellent overviews here. I've been following Reichel's progress for the last two years because I know his older brother, and I've been super impressed whith his intelligence. Super high ceiling on the guy, and I'd love for my Oilers to draft him in the early second if they can trade in somehow. Gotta get all the germans!

Given how structured your presentation is, I don't think length is an issue. That said it all depends on what your end goal here is. If you want to make money off of youtubing and do this either part time or full time (or get noticed and turn this into a job) I have a few suggestions. I think you have three challenges that will need to tackle to grow your channel and viewership: Visual Structure, Style and Developing a hook. Visual Structure -------------- The real danger for your type of content is falling into (or giving the impression that you are falling into) unstructured rambling because your narrative structure is not overly apparent to viewers. Your text might be well divided and organized, but if your video is not visually organized, you are hurting the capacity of your viewers to follow your points. So having a consistent visual structure throughout and from video to video is key in my opinion. Especially since you (like myself) have a french accent (which hurts intelligibility for english speakers) and a fairly fast speech pattern. You have to put extra effort in making sure we can follow you. Especially if you want to expand your channel. There are many ways you could improve the structure of your videos: - you could insert titles between sections of your reports announcing what aspects your covering now, - you could use specific audio cues when changing topic, - you could do simple pauses or editing cuts between sections to clearly mark each topic - you could change the presentation of certain aspects (including that interview for example while talking of his build was a great editing choice for example) - you could start off your videos with the same intro speech/sequence reiterating the aspects you are going to cover (your goal) and how you collected your observations (methodology) for this prospect. You sometimes do this, but I'd make it a section in itself, - you could create a blog of some kind that has your transcript and other relevant details (if you start getting good viewership numbers this could be a patreon perk) - you could add a table of content with time stamps in the description for each topic you covered in the video. There are many options, but finding a formula that works for you will make producing videos easier and give you more time to focus on the content. Style -------- In addition to using "canned" formulas from video to video to improve structure, you can also use those to start developing a style and overall identity for your channel. I really like how you've been using consistent video icons for your reviews now. That's exactly the kind of thing I think you should do more. TheReportofTheWeek, Captain Disillusion, JerryRigEverything or TierZoo for example, all have very unique youtubing styles that make their videos unmistakable and original. Giving yourself a visual identity beyond just straight play footage will benefit you in the long term and make your channel unique and interesting: - You could have a specific, but reusable intro and outro for your prospect reports and another for other types of content you create (highlights, game recaps, etc.) - Divide the type of videos you make into specific categories (prospect report, quick report) - In french we have the concept of "Registre Littéraire" to describe uniformity of tone in writing. I think giving your text reports a consistent tone could be an interesting avenue to explore. Developing and emphasising that aspect could make your videos more memorable and your channel identity stronger. Good examples of channels with strong tones are TheCrafsMan, Nat's What I Reckon,and The Templin Institute (TierZoo also has a strong stylistic tone). I don't think you need to do this, but I think it could be a great way of leveraging your accent and your naturally ability for jest. Basically, lean into it. - Tapping KZbin's catalogue of royalty free music or finding other royalty free databases of music or sound effects could be an interesting avenue to explore. Developing a Hook -------------------------------- In the end however, I'd say the key thing to improve your metrics and the general interest for your videos is building anticipation for the conclusion of your videos. I feel right now that you provide interesting, excellent really, analysis, but don't make the conclusions at the end of your videos "rewarding" enough. You need to develop a "hook" that will keep your viewers watching until the end and build excitement. In this regard, I have an oddball suggestion, but that I think could work out great for you. I would suggest you inspire yourself of Doug Demuro the car reviewer here on youtube. Like you, he runs a one-man operation and has become in recent months THE biggest car reviewer... on the planet. A single dude, alone, and his channel has more views per video than any other car publication in the world... combined. If you watch his videos closely, you'll notice he has, first of all, an extremely strong structure. They key however in his case is that each and everyone of his reviews has, at the end, a conclusion where he coalesces his findings into a scoring system, his super original "Doug score", which is a score he made up to cross compare vehicles of all years, type and make. People watch his videos for the playful, subjective analysis, but ultimately they always watch till the end to hear how he rates a car and how that car compares to similar cars. Each of his videos then has a link to a table with ALL his scores compiled and over time, as cars age, he adjusts their scores from time to time. It's stupidly simple, but it works. In many regards, you already do this, you'll offer a ranking, you'll compare to other players, you'll make comparisons... like a lot of reviewers and scouts really... but what Doug does that nobody really does is that he's super-structured and formalized that process. I think that's the key to his success and something you should try to emulate. I think introducing a "Draft Dynasty" or "Dynasty" score that measures the quality of prospects (regardless of how they turn out later as pros) would be fantastic and give viewers something to get excited about as your videos draw to a close. I know this sounds like prospect ranking, which you and many do already, but I would try hard to avoid a ranked system that's yearly like everyone else does and instead do a general, all years combined, ranking of prospects. It would differentiate you and make for interesting discussion about how the quality of a prospect translates afterwards into a pro player. It would also better contextualize the strength of a prospect when ranked as, "Oh this guy is no 1 this year, but overall, barely makes the top 25 of all time" or "wow this d-man that's projecting to go 10th, is, as far as left handed d-men go on the dynasty ranking, one of the best recent left handed d-men prospect of the last few years". Anyway, those a few thoughts and a lot of what I suggest would require more work, so feel free to ignore most of this stuff, but I really think implementing a few of these suggestions early will benefit your channel long term. Sorry for the wall of text, I figure more feedback is always better than less and since your channel is so promising. I think it's important to give you as much feedback as possible early on to help you develop your own ideas on how you want to develop your channel and what orientations you want to take :D. Best of luck!
@DraftDynasty14 жыл бұрын
Dude this is amazing. I would have paid for that type of help. I think it's a very smart idea to introduce a Draft Dynasty score at the end of the video. Like you are saying it's something different and it will keep the viewers watching till the end. Visual help (titles) whenever I change category is a very good idea too. I will be working with someone this summer to have an animated introduction (It will give more of a professional vibe). I do this for fun.. but I really like to improve to content and try to grow the channel.. It's kind of a competition versus myself to improve my content ahah. I will probably wait for next years draft to make most of the big changes but I will be following a lot of your recommendations ;)

Something that often goes un-said about Reichel, he was regularly sent to the box for team penalties. I lost count of the times he served 2 minutes for too many men or as a replacement for someone fighting. Add those minutes back to his game and I think you'd see higher points. Not huge numbers, but he'd have more assists.
