As a woman of a certain age who has had her heart ripped to shreds at points along life that scream was impossibly perfect from someone so young, and I got it right away, the emotional overwhelming of trying to express your pain while remaining calm when you just want to scream the pain out. This is it. She also growls and almost eats the word “mine” at one point. Destructive obsession of trauma bond love. Her creative delivery of these words is stunning and reaches that place inside the broken heart of anyone. I don’t know what the original artist meant yo say with the song, but it’s what I heard in hers. A loved child no less. This. This is art.

Wow- such an honest, gritty, perfect explanation of the emotions behind what we’re hearing!! The first time I heard this (just after I had been astounded and enchanted by this little girl’s singing on America’s Got Talent, and all of Norway’s Got Talent), I thought that this was the first song I’d heard where she sounded overly dramatic and somewhat contrived in her delivery- like she was doing an imitation ( -a very good one, though!) of soul singers she’s heard. But after I read some of the raving comments, and raving podcast reactions, of people who were educated and/ or experienced in music, I listened again and again, and I heard it in a new way-appreciating that it was rather an emotional, honest interpretation of the lyrics. Reading YOUR comments, I see ( and hear) that it’s just another great example of how she CHANNELS the emotions of the true meaning behind the lyrics - emotions she, herself, may have never experienced before, but embodies in the moment. As another Angel said, it’s as if she isn’t making the music, but the music is using her! Thank you for your raw and honest explanation of what you’re hearing as she sings this- I feel like I can really understand it now!

Angelina was 9 years 2 months old when recording I Put a Spell On You. Lukas you got it right with the notes she was writing then reviewed by one of the musicians. Angelina IS the boss in the room when rehearsing and there is a video of a rehearsal for Summertime which was your first viewing of her. Angelina sings the song a capella to teach the musicians then works with them on the accompaniment. IMO the best cover of Bang Bang (age 8) and she probably could have done the song justice when she fit the first lyric, I was 5 he was 6. Angelina is a true prodigy specializing in vocals. I have never seen anything like her in my 62 years. Angelina is my favorite female vocalist of all time.

In I put a spell you she was barely 9 and on Bang Bang she was 8 . This is one of her final songs in Norway Got Talent . The other one was Gloomy Sunday. She went on to win the whole thing. You see her giving her instrumental notes to the director who stated that she was very polite as she referred to the changes as her wishes. I can just imagine the conversation among the musicians as they were leaving the studio and the talk with their family as I am sure they realized that this was historical. She was two months into her ninth year when recorded. There was no other nine year old in the world who would even know who Screaming Jay Hawkins was let alone tackle this 1956 song. She is at a level beyond reality.

The candle with the weird face on it is Screamin' Jay Hawkins, the original singer of the song. She captured his wild screams, but in her own unique rendition of them.

This is what I got out of the video I know she’s nine years old I know she knows how to write her own music for this particular version I believe she may have listen to Nina Simone. That’s a prayer candle at the beginning of the video with a picture of the original artist. Just before music starts she looks up as if showing honor. I do believe she purposely chose to sing this song in a very low-key. She added growly sounds to make it believable that it’s not a child singing this adult song. Jazz is so popular Scandinavian countries and that’s why I think she uses jazz voice techniques. She’s watching and reading the sheet music while she’s singing so she knows everybody’s part and counting the beat. I do believe Angelina is a child prodigy she knows more than anyone gives her credit for.

In the first video, we see this tiny little girl - 9 years old?? - and she's got on a sweet little Sunday school dress, bare feet, as we're coming to expect and then she gets in front of that mic and even while we kind of know what to expect, BAM! she hits us with that scratchy, breathy amazing voice and control and passion! How does a child her age have the ability to sing with passion? Amazing. The second one - oh my. Certainly not many adults know Screamin', certainly the only little girl of 9 years in the world who knows him and who also thinks of singing him without any fear is Angelina.❤️ And it's incredible that this adaptation is all her own (the sheets written) and that at that age she was able to evaluate and transform, according to her sensitivity, such a particular and powerful song 😊 How is it possible that a girl of that age can make and sing the most beautiful transposition of this song from 65 years ago ... and it has been sung by many great performers. Bang Bang is another splendid interpretation of that fantastic little girl. That song was written by Sonny Bono for Cher and tells of an infantile love that Cher had told him about and it's actually nice to see him sing by another little girl, but she is covering Nancy's Sinatra version. 😊 Angelina, at 8 years old, sings a slowed down and so emotional version, that the judges and the audience had been kidnapped by her voice, as her teeth grew, her confidence with the microphone also increased and her voice gained confidence. She is always incredible in the choice of songs and in the way she wants to sing them and this already from these first participations in public, it seems impossible for a child to be able to have such musical knowledge and such mature opinions. ❤️

I have been waiting for to come back to Angelina. You now know why I put a spell on you was so highly requested. You mentioned you didn't know who it was on the candle. That is Screamin Jay Hawkins. The original artist of this song. Angelina's cover here (at barely 9 years old) is probably one of the truest covers of his original vision as you will find. In my personal opinion she even makes some improvements. His original was very theatrical to the point of maybe a little 'over the top'. Somehow Angelina is able to reign it in just enough to make it seem more natural, while still capturing the intensity he was going for. If you look up Sceamin' Jay doing this song, you will totally get what I am saying. ...and have an even deeper appreciation of Angelina's incredible artistry on this cover. Bang Bang... The thing that always blows me away about that one is how an 8 year old, on a talent show, in front of a large audience, is able to just stand there and keep this song in a perfect little pocket from start to finish. No need to get 'big' with it or add a lot of production stuff. The way she bleeds one word into the next, and melts her tones right into those of the guitar... She just pulls you right into her world with this one. As with everything she does, she does it perfectly. I really look forward to your next one. I recommend her acoustic "What Is Life" (her first original) ....or literally anything you want to pick from her cover channel will work also.

I’ve loved your previous reactions to Angelina. Today’s two songs are right at the top of my favorites. Something I didn’t understand, however, is a point you were trying to make during I Put a Spell on You. I believe you were saying that her talent level surpassed the abilities of her nine year old voice. If that’s what you were saying, I can’t agree. For me, this is the best version of I Put a Spell on You that I’ve ever heard. If there were no video, I don’t think anyone would ask if the singer was lacking some vocal quality. On some of her very young performances, it’s definitely a kid who’s got a phenomenal voice. On this, her age is irrelevant. It’s just a perfect period piece with Angelina showing us what she can do with vocal techniques, perfect bluesy timing, and attitude. If there was a KZbin Hall of Fame, this one should be there.

You should read into the reason why she wears no shoes. There's an amazing story behind it that's very heartwarming. I don't want to tell the whole story because I may have heard it wrong. But as I did hear it, she was little and in China. She saw a beggar that had no shoes. She was compelled to give the shoes right off of her own feet. That' not too surprising. BUT... She later wrote an illustrated book and has been selling it for years. Her mom did the drawings. Angelina put in her heart. Research it and I'm sure you'll be amazed.

Angelina does something in the second song, but it is so subtle that it is easy to miss. When she sings the lyrics "bang bang", she puts a soft vibrato on the final syllable that makes it a thing of beauty.

Doesn't matter what she is singing.....she nails it....in her own way. Its like she inherently knows which direction to go at any given moment. Not only is she singing the music....but she is connecting to the music. Huge difference. I love it.
