She is one of the greats. Her lyrics carried so many of us. I read that Combs identified this song as one of the first songs he remembers being truly touched by, and how people of all backgrounds relate to it. So true. It meant one thing to me in my 20's. Now, almost 50, it means different things to me. It is timeless. I am so proud of him for being a young man who can feel that and choose this song as a remake. What a statement to both of these artists. Beautiful sentiment.

Karaoke is when they sing the song the exact way it used to be with no new tunes or accents. This has got to be one of the realest, most hard-hitting songs I've ever heard. 2:58 to 3:18 shows how you just can spend you whole life running from something only for all those old hurts to one day catch up with you. It's subtle but the shift from "I know things will get better" to "I'd always hoped for better" - that shit hurts man. They say if you don't address your childhood traumas, your romantic relationships will and, in my opinion, no other song has encompassed that better than this one.

I left college just before covid, and I’ve been looking after my dad ever since, but he’s been in hospital for the past few weeks, and I’m so scared for him, but sometimes I look down the road and want to just disappear with the love of my life. I mean the song at it's essence is about scarcity mindset and poverty and the toll it takes, and how it encourages the decay of family units and abandonment. This chaotic cycle does discriminate, it just discriminates due to poverty- the irony here being that no matter where they take the fast car the only place they can afford is another area racked by poverty. There are ghettoized areas that are both majority white and majority black in the US, but lets face it the black areas are directly next to areas of relative white wealth with no real reason for the boundary other than race. So to say that harsh life doesn't discriminate is a bit of a stretch, in that context.

I’m so glad that country music fans love this song so much. I was not familiar with Luke Combs but what a great voice he has. I love how he showcased the song and didn’t change it. Awesome rendition of Fast Car 🚘

One of the greatest songs ever!!! I was a baby drag queen in Fort Pierce, Florida, and this song encouraged me to hop a Greyhound (my fast car) all the way to NYC in search of freedom... in search of a place where I COULD BE SOMEONE... BE SOMEONE.

@@buyinginbergen which is mostly a sign that the original song is amazing, so he just did it again. Which is an excellent choice for his cover. The very best covers are the ones that make the song their own, eclipse the original, like johnny cash and hurt, but there was no chance of that here.
