Hey Luke, I am a VFX artist by profession. I learned a few things about physical lights today and their use ,so thank you ! We do just these same things you did but in CGI ( Ads / Movies ) , just that everything is done digitally using cutting edge software and hardware.I can see how tough its to explain lighting to someone but you did a great job. You remind me of one of my mate, Mark also from Aus .I wish you a best of luck.

The number of likes and views on this and most of your other videos is just downright atrocious... and when you compare this to the other trash videos and the amounts they have... goddamn sickening... Lol. Either way... SOOOOOO glad that I was fortunate enough to have stumbled onto your channel. Your personality and the delivery of the expertise you're sharing are just perfect. The value of the content itself is priceless. I'm fairly new to photography, and I am selling my own products. I have found every bit of your content completely pivotal to my growth in photography. And I've learned VOLUMES from just these videos. I'm getting ready for your course now. Lol. Cheers, my guy. I appreciate you!

Great videos! In the spirit of “time is money” isn’t there a better way to take the picture in the first place in which the white background is whiter so all of this cutting, layering, shadow stuff is not really needed? Would an extra flash on the background alone help? All the work undertaken to make the background look white just makes the clear glass of the candle look smoky gray, not clear. If the background was really white, the glass would look clear.
@LukeAyers
@LukeAyers 4 жыл бұрын
This is true! With enough fiddling around you can get the background almost perfect white and not needing to be cut out. But usually this makes the product itself to bright. That's the issue

You can remove the shadow cast by the product in Photoshop, but hard and soft light still looks different on the product itself, so you need to use the diffusers

The candle shot: Is there any way to eliminate/correct the "smoked frosted glass" appearance of the clear glass (that still retains the slight opacity of the original darker background) containing the candle?
@LukeAyers
@LukeAyers 2 жыл бұрын
The simplest way to handle this is to use photoshop and brighten up the glass using the brightness and contrast settings.

Photoshop $10/month subscription only. Hopelessly complex. 600 page 'how-to' books. 1 year classes. Try Corel Paintshop Pro ($59 right now) or Adobe Elements ($99). One-time purchase and they all do 'layers'. More than enough. To cutout, shoot against $2 postboard chromakey blue/green background and then any auto-select 'one-click' tool. Layers way too advanced for most folks IMO. But I like your tutorials.
