really appreciate this mate - looking for work in this industry locally can sometimes be disheartening as I really want to work with people who are operating from these cine and lighting principles. Alot of people are just pointing the camera and pressing record.

Awesome video! Where can I get the diopters you mentioned?
@DynamicPhil842 жыл бұрын
Great lighting setup and the set design was on point. You did a great job mixing the warm and cool light. Interesting idea to use a diopter with the 40mm Vazen lens. Did you consider also renting the 65mm? I wonder if that would have gotten you those closeup shots that you wanted. Though probably easier to swap on/off a diopter as opposed to a completely different lens.

Result is very lovely! Vazen looks amazing, too bad they're not very popular with rentals in my area, especially not in mft mount, so there's no way to use them projects with my camera unless I shell out $10k :( Had a chance to use 40mm on a rented komodo kit once and was very pleasantly surprised with picture it produced.
@brandonchristensen29902 жыл бұрын
Hey Luke, on the fence on buying a 40mm. Does it have a filter thread at all, or do you need to use Diopter trays? I know the 28mm Vazen has filter threads so you can get cheaper diopters from Tiffen, but it doesn't seem like that's the case here.

Great stuff man! I grew up in Cincinnati and work in video. I've heard your name floating around and I think I know some mutual friends of yours. Anyway you put out some excellent work. I'd love to see a video on your grading work flow. I want to start working on grades in davinci but edit in premiere. Idk how to go back and forth in the programs seamlessly. Keep it up!
@LukeHolliday3 жыл бұрын
Oh no way!! That’s awesome, glad to see another Cincy native 🤘🏻 I might do a video on my color workflow, but there are plenty of great videos talking about the premiere to davinci round trip process! It’s actually pretty simple! It just kinda sucks that effects in premiere don’t transfer over in the round trip.
@markdanielkelly3 жыл бұрын
This is amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your process. Would you mind sharing your process for getting correct exposure? False colour, light meter, waveform, etc.? I understand how to ensure a shot isn't over or under exposed, but how do you make decisions about how bright each light should be? When is it okay to blow out a highlight? And by how much? Is there a resource (book, tutorial, class, etc.) you recommend for learning exposure?
@LukeHolliday2 жыл бұрын
Great question. I usually just have my base LUT in my camera to make sure everything looks close to how it will be graded, and I adjust by eye. This year, a goal of mine is to become more technical and more consistent with my ratios, so I want to start metering my setups to measure ratios. I just need to buy a light meter :) From what I hear, it’s just practicing it a lot that helps you be more confident in what your camera can handle, and what type of ratios you like for your looks.

Are there any cheaper alternatives for this setup that you'd use other than the lite mat?
@LukeHolliday3 жыл бұрын
I recently heard about something called the intellytech litecloth which is a lot cheaper! But either way, I like to rent these things and not spend thousands to own lights. I only own an aputure 300d, and I rent everything else per project :)

Not sure the exact brand, but they’re some type of LED Edison bulbs. Very warm, around 2000k. You can get em at like Home Depot or Lowe’s. They’re a little pricey, like maybe $10 per bulb
