Having this kind of repairing skill is so cool. Can buy broken ones so cheap and make them work like new! And sell them for profit.

You're right! The PlayStation 4 design is like a modern version of the Sharp X6800. And it's not the first time that a PlayStation recall and old computer. The PlayStation 2 is very similar to the Falcon 030 Microbox :)

Beautiful system. These reading mechanisms are really complex. Ys, great series! Great job Luke!

Great job Luke! Never had any experience on this machine, but I bet if you played it when it was new that this really brings back memories. I always love to pull out old 25-30 year-old consoles and fire up some games I played as a youngster or teenager. It gives you almost a "time-warp" feeling. You get instantly transported back to when you played it as a kid when it pops on the display and you hear the music fire up!

Man I really want one of these and a PC 88. I don't read Japanese, but they really seem like cool machines, and have a lot of connections with some of my favorite games. Not to mention I just like tinkering around with old computers.

So how did the trace repair turned out with the vinegar treatment ? Obviously the machine works so I suspect it did turn well ;) After cleaning, how good/bad was it ?

Awesome that you got that all working. I wouldn't mind getting a x68000 system down the track, as they are quite an interesting Japanese system and sort of follow the MSX machines in a way. I need to find out more about them.

You've had worse X68000s to repair - spiders! It'd be nice to see more X68000 coverage Luke, it's still quite the mystery machine to most Westerners.

Hey Luke, firstly I am surprised you had to order from the UK to get the right caps. Panasonic make a full range (and are one of the 2 best cap makers) and should have the full range available in Japan (or at least so I would have thought) You've also got Rubycon over that part of the world, so again I am surprised if there are no local distributors.

Hi Like :-) - I do like the look of the Sharp X68' series. I wouldn't like to have to do all that maintenance tho' lol - seriously though - how common are X68's in Japan and are they costly?
@pikuorguk11 жыл бұрын
haha I like how you've bought cheap electronics from England and had them sent to Japan. Over here in the UK we usually buy our cheap electronics from China or Japan. Many of the UK sellers are actually just importers that resell stuff from where you're from :-)

I ain't no scientist,but I have a question.Why does the hardware have a battery inside,since the damn thing is always on stand by?If you remove it permintly,does that malfunction the system,or is it like the Dreamcast,just for clock memory?

I know this is an old video, but what might be going on with the hard drive is "Sticktion" a lot of old hard drives do this after sitting up for a while. I have an amiga a1200 that has the same issue. had to actually tap the hard drive to get it to spin up lol.

The capacitors that are branded "long life" aren´t long life at all, every single capacitor of that branding that i have seen in old computers have leaked, some of them pretty badly, like for example in a toshiba t12000sx power suppply board, all the capacitors on that board leaked, and i literally mean every single one of them, by the looks, almost all the electrolyte from the capacitors leaked completely and when i got the laptop it was all over the psu board, luckily there was a metal shielding tray under the psu board ehere all the drained electrolyte fluid went to stop, that tray actually saved the motherboard from rotting and it was in perfect condition. By some miracle i managed the psu board to work and now the laptop works perfectly fine.
