Thanks for sharing this! I've been thinking of switching over as I keep painting the full mini, leaving the base for the last, and often extremely delaying putting anything on the base because it's such a pain to do it traditionally. These look phenomenal for how few steps are involved!

I use the Fast Dry whenever I'm basing. (most of the time I don't already have the minis glued to the base which makes it easier) I hate it so much but I can't stop using it because of how great it is at holding the coarser material. I make sure I use silicone sculpting tools to do any tidy up and apply with lollypop and cocktail sticks like you. As soon as its on your hands it's game over until you wash with soapy water or use something like talc. Value wise reports tend to indicate you can definitely get at least 200 minis assuming 25/30mm bases but some do 350+ (disclosure. I'm Lukes brother and work for Geek Gaming)

I love it for holding static too. Over time with pva any minis I use static on need sprusing up before the year is out if I'm using them regular

How do you secure the mini to the base on top of this stuff? I've always been unsure of how people do bases before attaching minis

I've never tried it tbh, I normally base before painting, but pins and super glue would be the way forward I guess. With the rubbery texture you could also dig them In a bit so they didn't just balance on top, you'd just have to watch out for bigger rocks.

I use Gorilla wood glue, never had a problem with it and it dries solid within a couple of hours

So the glue is bad for durability? The basing coving needs to be rock solid and never come off!
@ScruffyCrow4 жыл бұрын
Even months later it is still tacky and sheds sand, I'll have to seal it on. I'll do another video in the new year looking at it.

You describing your PVA.. That sounds really weird, Australia doesnt have that and our PVA looks exactly like Lukes one.

I just looked it up, I think the main difference is wood glue is more concentrated. So it dries faster and is stronger. Makes it better for some stuff.

Could you use PVA for the basing glue?
@ScruffyCrow4 жыл бұрын
For sure, would usually use PVA for someone like this. However you might not get the depth of texture and the same mix of materials as with the rubber, you might have to add it in layers or individually.

A strong PVA works perfectly well. I have an old one from Wickes which works every time with no need to layer etc

The glue is still gummy, the stuff does fall off but also kinda sticks back on.
@horusheresy69493 жыл бұрын
You could easily make that type of basing material yourself

Just buy builders PVA glue it's not watered down like the crap from craft shops etc,that basin glue looks like the tacky glue they sell for making trees for model railways, horrible stuff.
