Le lundi de Pentecôte is no longer a public holiday. It has been decided by the government that it would be « le jour de solidarité » after the heat wave stroke France during the Summer 2001 and killed thousands of elderly people. It’s very confusing though because most of the shops and all the schools are closed just like a regular public holiday but if you do not « take » this day off from your paid holiday, you get to work « for solidarity ».
