Christopher Reeve refused fake muscles for Superman

For kids born in the 70's and 80's, Christopher Reeve is the OG Superman. But he was nearly overlooked by casting directors as he was deemed too young and too skinny to play the role.
They prepared a padded suit for him, but Christopher was determined to bulk up his physique for real.

Imagine thinking reaching this physique in 2 months is possible without steroids. You people are why nobody has a good understanding of what a good physique is anymore. Edit: the people replying to me are completely uninformed on everything about this topic. I’m speaking from years of study and experience. You cannot gain this physique in even a year. No one not even the most genetically gifted could get it naturally in under a year. All the people who knew reeves even say he was on gear, it was not uncommon in the 40’s through to the 80’s to use gear. He was 6ft4, the taller you are the harder it is to gain muscle. A year is the shortest possible time I’m willing to give reeves. Edit: “but I knew a guy-” “uh duh this is totally possible…” “he’s not even that big….” “You’re completely wrong” you people are so massively uninformed on anatomy or biology yet so confident in being a contrarian that it borders on comical. Do any research on his muscles biologically work and then do some survey studies on how P.E.D’s work AT LEAST before responding to me.

@@cyruskhalvatiten to eight weeks is plenty of time. It really doesn't take a very long time for your body to transform if you have the consistency and dedication. 178 to 220 is not a huge leap. That's about 45 lbs. He bulked up, had a high protein diet, which with proper training can have you gain muscle mass incredibly quickly, and he also took vitamins. Achieving 45 in growth within ten weeks is incredibly achievable. Doing that and having the muscle definition you see actors having nowadays however, is far less likely and incredibly suspicious of steroids or PEDS.

No fancy stylistic embellishments on the suit, literally pajamas but still Reeves delivered us the timeless iconic Superman. Do you know what's so special about Reeves' suit? Nothing, it's gd pajamas, what is iconic about Reeves Superman is that his suit in its simplicity is "loyal to the source material" at its best, what the suit lacks in fancy stylistic embellishments, it's filled by Christopher Reeves' performance of the character, how he exuded the character and gave him life. Edit: of course a huge Nod to the Producers, Writers, Directors, Art Directors, Actors, Supporting Actors and most of all, the staff in special practical effects. Masters of the craft of storytelling. THAT! is the BIG LEAGUES of filmmaking, SUBVERTING EXPECTATIONS IS NOT THE "GENIUS" HOLLYWOOD'S CURRENT HACKS THINK IT IS, IT'S DUMB.
