We finally got a PS5 with monthly payments, and although my hubby will say it was a late Christmas present, I'm sure the remake was a big reason we finally got it. What's weird to me is gaming experts act like the PS5 is basically over and we need to plan for the PS6, but did they miss we had a pandemic and everything has become crazy expensive? Give regular folks time to catch up... also, we each have PCs and there really haven't been exclusives forcing us to upgrade until now. I'm really glad, though, we were using the PS4 to watch TV in the living room and the PS5 is much faster.

@therotten6152 they have been developing rebirth since 2019, and it took remake 2-3 years to come ouut on pc it just how the team has done things, they lift the exlusive deal but not with a product coming the same date, i expect it to come on pc by early 2025 or mid 2025

@@NickaLahIt’s life will no doubt extend 2-3 years into the next generation as well. If you own PCs then there will likely be no rush to upgrade as most of the exclusive titles in that period will release across generations. FF7 part 3 will be a good example of that. (I will be tempted to upgrade to get the shiny PS6 version of it, but I think they will target as close a PC release on that as their agreement allows).

I loved it when it came out (I'm only 51 - not quite old). I was living in London at the time, in Ravi Shankar's (a mentor of The Beatles) old house, and every day there was post from around the world sent to him there, though he'd long since sold the house and moved away. One of my housemates seemed to be permanently glued to FFVII on his 14" CRT TV. Meanwhile, there was decent advertising for it on the Tube, with platform-side billboards at key stations. Great game.

If you haven't played ff7 original, you're missing out of a good part of the story of remake cause its a new story but it references ff7 a lot. Remake, imo is an amazing story. I love how they took the old story and made something new out of it. It gave me the same feelings i had playing 7 for the first time.

Things I'm pessimistic about: the plot, pacing of the story. Things I'm optimistic about: Minigames and puzzles. Things I know for sure will be 10/10: Combat, Boss battles, Music and bond of friendship between characters.

A lot of people his age look about 10 years older, they've had a lot more stress than we did at their age imo. Yeah, we've all had stress, but any of us born in the 80s also had a bit more carefree time than they did... imagine pretty much missing the 90s?? Shoot I'm a couple years older than both of you and can even remember the end of the 80s. Imagine your first real memories start around 9/11 😬 Nothing has been the same since then, it's no wonder people his age look older, their formative years were full of unexplainable anxiety, paranoia and stress from 9/11 to the crash in 2008.

The story in Remake was off-putting to me. Could barely finish it. I came here to find out whether Rebirth would be tightened up or be more of the same. I’m kind of a simp for FF7 and I realize I’m totally biased. The original is my favorite gaming experience and came at a really much needed time in my life (I’ll spare the sob story). And yes I freaking loved Remake and was one of the few it sounds like, that was really pumped about this being a trilogy. I like the idea of making it epic and grand and really letting the story breath. I understand it’s not everyone’s cup of tea and that some people are mad about the format. Me, I’m on board and I feel like these games were made for me personally. Cannot wait for Rebirth!

In the original it was extremely linear and arguably the tutorial section. To be honest it was actually more open than I expected. I was also just giddy taking in all the areas and parts that I recognized from the original. Rebirth I was fully expecting an open zone type thing to mimic the original and it looks like that’s exactly what’s happening so I’m here for it!

I encourage everyone to look up character combat guides and fight terror of the deep multiple times, this game has added way more to combat than in remake, all characters now have access to a perfect parry by pressing block as the enemy attacks now, makes the attack immune and staggers the opponent at the same time, also time can't jump in the air at opponents unless you use her r1 synergy to get cloud or someone to launch her in the air, failing that if all party members are incapacitated she can use one of her new abilities to launch her, for cloud you dodge with circle and then hold square and he will go aerial, if you tap square tho he will do a projectile attack

I am 40 and rented the original from a video game store. I played it all weekend and didn't have a memory card so I left my console on for days. Later I got a memory card from a friend at school and bought the game for 20 bucks. Its my favorite game of all time. And I still play it every once in a while. And during covid I 100% the game. When I played the remake I liked but wasn't blown away by it. In the remake I made it all the way to the final fight with Sephiroth but didn't finish it. Maybe I will revisit the remake as I wait for the remake part 2 discount sale.

I had kind of a similar story. Never played the original, but I bought Remake the day it came out. Liked the game, but the length/pacing made me put the game down and restart a few times. Made it to the last phase of Sephiroth and then my game crashed (no opportunities to save), so I quit again out of frustration. Just went back and finished it last week in preparation for Part 2 and now I'm hyped all over again.

I don't like the tone of the detail talks of any of this lol. I feel like game devs will listen and will push for Graphics>Gameplay, shittier worse mechanics for better prettier visuals, because all gamers care about is "the amount of geometry ultra pixels and every little detail of lightning in THIS area, or THAT area" like HOLY crap, all we really gave af about is a game modernized with yeah better graphics but I could care less if it's on the lowest settings for PC. But primarily enhanced better new gameplay, voice acting, and much more scenes.. I think people who talk about all these minimal unimportant details of assets is exactly how games like Forespoken are born.

The universe and lore, the characters, everything is just so incredible and unique. I have started playing the original FF7 recently, haven't finished it yet, but I'm close. Prior to playing it I had no interest in playing the remakes as I didn't like FF15 and FF16, so I figured I wouldn't like 7 remake either, but after playing the original I'm a lot more curious, I still wouldn't say I'm excited because a lot of the things I didn't like about 15 and 16 seem to be present in 7 remake, and also, while I'm enjoying the original, I don't think it's flawless, I respect the heck out of it for doing what it did back in 1997, but there are a lot of things about it that I don't like, or at the very least things I think could have been handled better, and not just things that aged badly over time, things that even with the context of it being a game from 1997 still feel like they could have been better handled. I probably will check Rebirth out after I finish the original (assuming I like FF7 remake enough to keep going), but even then I don't expect to like it a lot, since from what I can tell, Rebirth is going to cover the part of the original game I enjoyed the least.

Man I haven't played a single FF game ever. Not even the first FF7 remake. I've bought both games(FF7 Remake & Rebirth) yesterday since everyone claims FF7 is the best in the series. Now I can't decide whether I should first play the OG FF7(that PS1 game) or the Remakes first. Like would playing the OG make me appreciate the remakes more or would it ruin the experience since I would know the story already??? For me personally I would recommend it, but only if you like turn based combat. It's a special game, FF7 OG is still better than remake in my opinion. Without spoiling the games plot I'd say it's borderline essential to fully understand the first part of the remake trilogy at least.

Man, people love to complain. Way too many people that love the og ff7 games don't like this bc stuff was changed. The sad thing is, if nothing was changed but the combat, those same people would hate it bc the combat was different. And if everything was the same, those same people would bitch that it's the same game and all they did was up the visuals. I also see people complaining that they are making it a trilogy. These games are long with a ton of content so it's not like you're getting barely any game for 70 dollars. They've added stuff and changed some stuff so you're getting 3 awesome games, with a ton of content that takes a good while to beat. If you like the og better, that's fine. Or if you wish they wouldn't have changed so much, thats fine. It's just old seeing people say these games are shit bc they aren't exactly like the old ones. These games aren't shit. The graphics are awesome, the gameplay is great, the sound design and music is great, and the voice acting is good. As far as the story, I think we need to wait until every game is out to see if it fully lives up to the og. You may not like some of it now, but maybe in the 3rd game, it'll surprise the shit out of you and end up being a great story. I think it's good so far. That said, I haven't played the original, so I'm basing these games on their own merit. I can't compare the story at all though until I play the og. I know I won't like the combat as much though bc I don't like turn based combat. But even though I haven't play the og, I know these games aren't shit. They are really good games. Try playing them without comparing them so much to the og. Maybe you'll change your mind.

biggest concern is performance mode. IF they can make it just a little sharper, Ill be happy. Also, add motion blur to Graphics mode... I dont wanna play 30fps without motion blur but 60fps with blur is also bad. Its like this amazing game is held back by some poor tech decisions on either side. I did notice that on my 1440p monitor if I set the pixels to not refresh as fast, this adds just a little bit more 'blur' to the 30 fps image, filling in those 30fps 'gaps'

@@hufflepoof5510 nah thats not correct. they pushed a patch that was supposed to fix it. It only made it 'slightly' better. The patch was pushed with the Demo part 2 release on Feb 21. For me it made Performance mode maybe 25% less blurry, but it still feels like I am playing on Sub 1080p resolution. Its solid 60fps no dips at all but man really hoping they improve it further.

Ff13 looked amazing when it came out. The trade off was cut corners in every way that counted. Replicated scenery, no exploration, no shops or towns to visit. This game gives me what I want, so I'll happily accept low res shadows and 30fps.

I can't imagine people enjoying FF7 Remakes story without playing the original. FF7 Remakes story is a mess of fan service and it destroys the themes of the original completely. That being said FF7 Remake was still probably the best JRPG to come out in the past ten years next to Chained Echoes and Sea of Stars. One of the best things about FF7 Remake is Maxamillion Dood and Woolie fangirling over the games. I can't imagine anyone who's played the original not thinking FF7 Remake is one of the best games ever made. Despite the story I thought the first one was an unparalleled masterpiece and everyone I know beat the game more than once.

@@nesbittheisman10 Baldurs Gate 3 is a 160 hour turn based RPG. Sea of Stars won Indy game of the year in 2023, that's about 50 hours long. The FF1-6 pixel remasters that came out last year sold very well. If it's not a genre you like it's all good. But long turn based RPGs are very much alive and practical for a lot of people.

​@zylik4437 There's no rule in the RPG handbook that says you're not a fan of the entire genre just because you don't like long games. A good game is a good game regardless of how many hours the campaign is. If the gameplay is fun on its own merits, then people will sink an infinite amount of time into replaying them. I didn't own a PlayStation when the original came out, so Remake is my first introduction to FF7. The reality is that most people aren't willing to go back and play a 27 year old game. Nor should they be. Remakes revive interest and bring in new audiences. And that's exactly what these games have been doing.

@@lukaszzylik4437I think you're conflating characteristics of games that *you* like with essential qualities of the genre. Chrono Trigger. Kingdom Hearts. Earthbound. Golden Sun. Secret of Mana. Suikoden II. All staple JRPGs that are under 30 hours. RPGs are not defined by their length. And @nesbittheisman10 explained why going back and playing the original is prohibitive to most. If you want more people to appreciate the masterpiece you love, then being exclusionary up front is probably not the best approach.

Played the original (& loved it). Zero hype for these...reenvisioned versions of the game as they've just rewritten the story as/when they please (also not a fan of the more generic action-y combat). I'm sure they're fun enough games, but I don't consider them anything more than FF7 fanfiction (& wish they'd stayed more true to the original).

The comment @ 13:57 about Rebirth's tangled story is the honest feedback I've been looking for. Every review I've seen preaches like Rebirth is gonna be the game of the century. Which would be fantastic if that turns out to be the case. But it makes it hard to tell which reviews are impartial and which ones are nostalgia-fueled hyperbole. I just want to see honest reviews without all the glazing. The gameplay/music/characters in Remake were all spectacular, but the slow pace of the story (and sidequests with awful rewards) detracted from my overall enjoyment of the game. This review reaffirms my suspicions. Instead of tightening things up, it sounds like they went full send with the story filler and minigames padding.

I replayed remake this month and while I enjoyed it, there were 5 hours of that main game that should have been cut. It’s kind of frustrating because they absolutely nailed the characters but some of the pacing wasn’t great. It’s going to be hard to judge the changes they made until part 3 but I’m fairly skeptical it will work but I hope I’m wrong.

Waaaay more than 5 hours lmao. It completely killed my enthusiasm playing Remake. It felt so padded I couldn't even remember why I was on a quest in the first place. By the end I just wanted the game to be over. I think I've learned my lesson though. It sounds like the way to go with Rebirth is to skip the sidequests and just stick to the main path. From other reviews I've seen, it sounds like it's all just fluff. Better to go back after completing the game than bring the story to a grinding halt in every new zone.

I've been watching multiple reviews on this game so I can gauge whether the game will be worth the investment (at least at launch price). So I am looking for valid criticisms from people who've had hands-on time with the game. A review that is all rainbows and gumdrops immediately raises red flags for me. Not because I think the reviewers are being dishonest, but because I feel like nostalgia-goggles prevent them from being critical about the actual product they're reviewing. For example, I've seen multiple complaints already about how performance mode is a smudgy mess. That sort of criticism is important to report because it can be the deciding factor between buying the game Day 1 or waiting for a PC release. Telling people that the game is a "10/10 MASTERPIECE" sets up lofty expectations for consumers.

FF VII is still my favorite game of all time. I tried the remake, played through it twice. That said...I have no interest in continuing. The thing that blew me away about ff VII initially was the story, and the feeling of the world map being so free even if it wasn't quite purely open. The buggy, submarine, breeding Chocobos to go to new places, the airship...those coupled with the story were the things that captured my imagination. Both of those things are changed or gone. I accept I'll never have that feeling of wonder again, but if I am going to play this for nostalgia...seems like the two things I loved the most would be the biggest nostalgia draws. I'm thrilled so many people love this new effort, but it just isn't for me.

Same. FF7R1 was a major letdown. I still haven't finished it, after waiting like... decades for it? It's so linear and crap. The only thing I liked about it was the cute character interactions. Tifa is great eye candy too.. but that doesn't make up for how crap the combat really is and how lame the linearity is. Compared to what made FF great to begin with. We didn't ask for Devil May Cry.

Remake was my first official Final Fantasy, back in January. Since, I've completed Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus and playing through the original on Switch until Rebirth comes out. Saw Advent Children in theaters last week as well. Not knowing anything before Remake outside of Cloud and Sephiroth in Smash, and Yuffie and Aerith being in Kingdom Hearts, I've been absolutely enamored with this universe and it's characters. I have two friends that played they original at launch. It has been interesting seeing the different dynamics in how we've all enjoyed Remake and anticipating Rebirth and the eventual 3rd game from two original players and one new. So far, Remake has been great at adapting this story for all players, old and new, in a way that makes this a fresh experience for everyone of those players.

​@de1337me Hamaguchi and Kitase has final say on the project. Nomura is back on Kingdom Hearts 4 and is mainly aiding with the cg cutscenes and boss fights. Also this was apparently a story made in 2005 that was going to be part of the FF7 collection but was scrapped because of how much budget it would need. It seems that there is at least a plan with this Remake series.

I share this opinion. Turning 1 game into 3 games at 70-90 dollars a piece is mental to me. The first game felt incredibly mid. I played that and then FF16 right after it and I can't believe they were released close to each other. FF16 feels 10 years ahead of FF7 remake.
