I don't think it needs a DLC but I do look at some of the ideas that were cut and feel like there were missed opportunities. In particular there was a dream character called Daisy in EA that was a manifestation of the tadpole in your head, intent on luring you into a false sense of safety that would lead to you turning into a mind flayer. The idea of this character is much more interesting to me than the Emperor's predefined character and uninteresting story that only changes based off of essentially one decision at the end. Something like this would have opened up a plethora of RP options for you to add to your character through Daisy since Daisy could be whoever you wanted them to be like your character's dead spouse. I just find an open ended character like that much more interesting than the rushed final product that was the emperor. Additionally, the most iconic songs 'Power' and 'Down by the River' make no sense without Daisy.

I believe Larian came into conflict with WOTC, resulting in them firing the entire team that supported larian with BG3. IMO the origin of this conflict is that larian loves mods and wanted to make a full customization mod tool pack but WOTC forbade it. The reason for this is wizards sells their virtual tabletop subs and are actually releasing a new VTT that looks suspiciously similar BG3 LOL. Basically, the biggest fear for WOTC is people using BG3 to run virtual campaigns instead of buying into their ecosystem, and it's ultimately this that caused a rift and made Larian opt out of continuing to work with wizards. Larian with how big they are now could've easily worked on bg3 dlc etc AND work on their other projects, so I dont believe larian when they argue this 😅. Anyways, nobody can convince me that larian didn't leave the door wide open for modders to unlock the full mod kit unofficially in their latest patch. They know exactly what they were doing lol.

@Morden97 WOTC is only slowing down the inevitable since Larian can do the same thing with Divinity series. And besides, Dungeon and Dragons is just medieval fantasy, nothing really special about the IP itself, so if not BG3, then the next game Larian makes will have mods and custom contents.

@@heman2379 there are a couple mods available that really perfected the armor system. I hope Larian pulls from those as I prefer armor/magic armor being used to reduce damage, over AC determining a hit or miss

I'll go against the grain and say that I don't care for the Divinity setting. I don't think BG3 would have been as big if they didn't have the massive backlog of lore and world building spanning 30+ years of Forgotten Realms to pull from. I get not wanting to remain tied to WotC, but I don't think they'll be able to create a unique IP that is comparable. Hopefully they prove me wrong.

I think WotC genuinely upset them for a few reasons. WotC took a big cut, for one, then it became one of the most bought/played RPGs in years and WotC immediately laid off a chunk of their employees. WotC is absolutely the issue. Can't wait until they finally collapse.

This isn't 100% confirmed but many people also are speculating WotC is the only reason there wasn't an official content making mod tool in terms of being able to create new locations, characters and stories. In interviews, Swen was quoted saying he wanted this game to live on forever and essentially have players making content, but in the end there was never a way to make content until people found out how to unlock the mod tool. It seemed so easy that to many it looks like a deliberate and intentional way for Larian to sneak this ability to players unofficially.

What got me hyped for Baldurs Gate is that it was finally something to fill the void left by Dragon Age. It's one of those cool cinematic RPGs, but with insane reactivity, combat and really just gameplay in general. I was already a fan of Larian, but I wasn't too hyped about BG3, since I dislike D&D as a system, but Larian really did it for me somehow.

They said this before the game was released, they probably played it and where frustratingly impressed by the game and realised…“man.. we could not do that anymore, what have we become“ . 5:05 I'm not sure if that's the case when they do in-game testing, and they observe people getting lost and not knowing what to do with out the yellow or white paint. I also believe it could be a case by case basis

honestly, its not an MMO, so for Dev like to still update it years after they already complete it is pretty amazing even without DLC. I would rather they chose to try moving into other game with the same genre instead, for example like Divinity 3. I would love to play a divinity game with BG3 level of details

honestly I love the fight in Divinity 2 more that BG3, but maybe its because im not a fan of the dice mechanics, as that was a bit too luck based for me(which opted me to savescum a lot mid battle). If they make a divinity game, add more extra class and flesh out a lot of the out of battle mechanics, I bet it could top BG3 and get them another Game of the Year

Just to clarify for those that don't play D&D, everything he talks about with D&D Beyond only affects that platform. You can still find everything free online (minus modules). I've been running a weekly homebrew campaign for 5 years and I don't own any books on D&D Beyond (and honestly I don't need to own them physically at all.) Don't take his $2000 quote seriously whatsoever. Unless you want everything and only want to use DnD Beyond.

Though I'm saddened we won't get any expansions or DLC (was really hoping for an Astarion DLC where we help him find a cure for his condition), I'm glad the game ended as it is on a good note and left it up to the players imagination on what happens next. Prolonging the main story risks retconning whatever plot or buildup the company has made. Furthermore, I'm excited with what Larian will come up with next. I heard it will be sci-fi based. Not really my cup of tea but I'm willing to give Larian the benefit of the doubt.

Everything to do with the mechanical aspects of D&D with BG3 has pissed me off since I was aware of what they were doing with the game. Even more so when playing it. I feel if they hadn't went with the D&D license from the start this game would have been a better long term product.

Been playing a second playthrough with the Paladin class. Ive immediately found new characters & areas I completely missed the first time. I’ve also just been playing more aggressive on tactician difficulty. For me personally I’d say it’s my front runner for game of the generation.

BG3 did not need a DLC in a traditional sense, but I would love for an update to add more companion content even if that would be a paid update. And by companion I of course mean Shadowheart. In fact, a steady stream of Shadowheart-focused updates to BG3 is the only live service I would ever pay for 😂

I think its refreshing that some studios don't worship money completely (yes it is a business, I get that). BG3 rabid fan base was so focused on character relationships - kissing mechanics - and post credit scenes. I'm curious what was on the brain storming white board that got pushed aside to accommodate them. Also, it could be really telling if their next rpg the relationship mechanics are kind of an afterthought or DL.

Larian should of purchase the ip from WOTC! this is a subject that is rarely discussed. BG3 surpassed expectations meaning they could have gotten the ip at a discount would they have asked to purchase it from the beginning. The Baldur's Gate ip was on the shelf for over 20 years, there's no way WOTC would be expecting a studio to sell 20+ million copies for an ip that's been dormant for that long also there was no guarantee the game would have been any good.
