@slurpchannel14754 жыл бұрын
I think the episode where Flanders loses his house to the hurricane deserves more credit. It's a genuinely hilarious deconstruction of the "whole town comes together to help out in a disaster" trope. They did something extremely kind for Flanders and worked very hard to accomplish it, but they built a house that is completely unlivable. It's a totally realistic outcome of a bunch of random people with no experience building a house trying to do so with little organization or oversight -- but Flanders still has to be grateful even though they totally shit the bed. The Simpsons was at its best when it was able to put blend wacky and realistic events to put its characters in hilarious predicaments.

At the end of the day, Flanders is an awesome character. It’s too bad that all these years later, they’ve simplified him into nothing more than an unnecessarily forced Christian-Right stereotype instead of focusing on the traits and attributes that made him such an outgoing, friendly, and likeable character. Religion was always a secondary part of Ned’s character in earlier seasons, but never to a point in which it absorbed everything else unique about him.
@Lucky_97054 жыл бұрын
For the first 8 seasons, Flanders carried a personality that had a stark contrast to Homer’s, but still carried weight and necessary feel for interesting plot potential. From seasons 9-10 onward, he became increasingly more and more flanderized by the writers as they began to run out of plot ideas for the character.
@johnb.86874 жыл бұрын
Lucky I hate the episodes where Maude dies and ned is dating. Something about seeing Ned sad. Such an upbeat family man, transformed into a depressed multiple widower. A busted guitar string. Yep homer wont run into the Flandersis anywhere again. Maude dying is like my principal and the pauper. Things aren’t what they seem.

I’m wondering how Flanders has enough time in his day to do all the things he does: There are 168 hours in a week He’s asleep for about a third of that or 56 hours (112 left) For his job being a pharmacist has different hours depending on where you are and the leftorium’s hours are unclear too so I’ll use him as a teacher 6 hours a day plus probably an extra hour for preparation and other miscellaneous teacher stuff for a total of 35 hours (77 left) I’ve never really been to church so I don’t really know how long it takes but I’ve heard about 4 hours especially with all of the extra stuff Ned does (73 left) He’s on the church council so I would guess about one hour a week for that (72 left) I added an hour per day for miscellaneous time like driving eating and praying so 7 hours (65 hours) For all of the other stuff he does on this list he’s seen with Rod and Todd so I’ll take the time when they’re asleep off If Flanders wants to get to school on time he would probably go to sleep at 10:30, Rod and Todd go to sleep at like 6:30 so that’s 28 hours (37 left) There have been many gags about the Flanders “entertainment” (bible stories board games without dice the cross games his version of Harry Potter etc.) so he probably spends about 2 hours a day doing that (23 left) He said that he goes to the apple cider place 16 times a season (about 3 months) in order to pay for a season pass Considering that he probably goes more than that I’m guessing 1.5 times a week. He probably goes for about 2 hours each time so 3 hours. (20 left) That leaves 20 hours to do all of his philanthropic things such as helping the homeless and stuff like that. This guy does literally nothing that would entertain anyone else.
