The battle at 3:15 is spectacular. It is amazing to see what you can do when you know the combos and the stored segment of the moves. I love the comment "the game is saturated with meaning". Awesome video!

there's also the brief, transitory game that lies in-between those two games: knowing how to execute dodge offsets on paper (and in practice mode), but not in actual combat. i find that i can only do it about half the time when i'm fighting real enemies. also, the only combo i ever consciously employ is PKP -- the others are achieved via mashing and luck.

I'm someone rediscovering this game. I played it back when it came out, I thought it was very good, but I never really understood just how great it is. Playing it now, holy shit. It holds up so well. Hack and slash in general is a genre that doesn't have too many standouts so it's always been in that top tier, but the depth and freedom, the style, the fluidity of everything really came out perfectly in this series especially in regards to reflecting the main character and how she fights. It really feels like you're dancing and when you know what you're doing it's one of the only hack and slash games where you feel as powerful as they show the protagonist when they're in the cutscenes popping off.

This video really REALLY helped me. I was so intimidated by all the combos but I played the first one on my Switch for the first time yesterday and I don't even know how this is possible but I think I'm already in love... and I haven't even progressed past the combat tutorial yet. I literally played for almost 2 hours last night trying out all the combos and learning the ones I think would be the best to use. I took screenshots and labelled my favourite ones! I was up until 1AM doing this last night so that's why I didn't play past this but I honestly can't believe how quickly I've grown to like this game from the dread that this wasn't the genre for me. You're a living legend dude.

I've been playing for a week or so and just defeated the 2nd Big Boss. I die at least 3 times a level, since about chapter 3 anyway, and tend to buttonmash. That one level with like 3 Grace & Glory fights resulted in at least a dozen deaths- most of them in the one back-to-back G&G fight. That's where I'm coming from when I say that I really, really appreciate this video. I had no clue about even just the basics of this- I had no idea exactly how the dodge offset works, or that there are different weights to different launcher moves, or how to time combos, or even that you could hold the attacks to get gun blasts without breaking the combo. I'll definitely be practicing all of this next time I play. Still gotta dig out a video explaining exactly how Wicked Weaves work and why Witch Time seems to last for different lengths of time on different occasions, but this was very helpful. (Also, given how much depth you reveal to the game in just five minutes, I'm now very confused as to why the devs didn't bother putting a decent tutorial in the game.)

I just started a playthrough of this game, and as soon as I got into the tutorial I knew this combat system was going to take some effort to learn. The game presents all the combos at once and it's too much for anyone to wrap their head around. Pressing random buttons mindlessly is the playstyle this encourages, but I don't want to play it that way. I exited the game and looked for guides about how this combat system actually works. This video gives some useful ideas about how to begin learning how to fight with intention and control. Thanks.

Man, i was thinking about the power of dodge offset today when i was playing, and yeah, Bayonetta can be a surprisingly chill ultimate obliterating apocalypstical destruction bitch-slapping kinky-ish comical punishment, and the best part is that it fits PERFECTLY with Bayonetta's attitude, so if you play in this way, you will kinda roleplay, and i think that this just shows how incredible this game design is.

I really like the devil May cry 5 combo list, like you mentioned for this during my first day playing devil May cry 5 I was really intimidated by how many combos there were and how many different weapons there were but then I realized after a few days pretty much every weapon has the same combo inputs so it's basically just learning one set of combos and implementing it into the different weapons, I hate one verse one fighting games like Street fighter and mortal Kombat or Tekken, I used to love them as a child but I just don't have that energy in me anymore

I love this game but it always felt like I was missing something. I knew how to dodge offset reliably, I knew all the good and convenient combos, I knew the timing for Witch Time and parry timing for almost every attack in the game, and I knew the perfect strategy (for me at least) to beat every enemy with little to no damage. But I somehow never thought to cancel the start up of attacks with a dodge to skip parts of combos. It seems so obvious but it just never clicked for me. You’d be surprised just how big an impact this tiny thing made I can get Platinum on non boss fight chapters reliably when I could barely get silver or gold before. I’m still not going to get Pure Platinum on chapters for a very long time because some sadist at Platinum Games decided that Alfheims should count towards your overall ranking.

Yeah theyre attacks are slow but when you have to do the part to do weave attacks you being in that small ring DOES NOT help out at all bc most of them fly and you can’t do normal attacks only weave attacks and you only get 3mins which sounds like a lot but again most of them fly so if ur trying to do a combo to get a weave attack when they are to close it’ll automatically stagger you bc they were to close or you were to close to them while trying to do a combo to perform a wicked weave attack… so if any of you know a much simpler way to perform a weave attack please let me know

Your video has helped a lot. But, about Dodge Offset...,Are you using Dodge Offset regardless of attacks? Or are you only using Dodge Offset when actually dodging an attack? I fee like I'm trying to complete a combo, and when I need to Dodge, I'm already letting off the previous punch or kick, and don't have time to hold the next attack button to Dodge Offset with. (This is a difficult subject to construct questions for, haha)
@lukusridley6 жыл бұрын
The trick is to get really used to dodge offsetting basically all the time. At first it definitely feels fiddly but it's just a matter of repetitive practice - I actually found I was much more consistent doing it defensively after a break and coming back to the game! But specifically to your question - yes I am usually trying to dodge offset during both. You can dodge defensively and offensively in bayonetta - sometimes you don't care about the small attack properties and just want a wicked weave to come out or use a particular combo ending board clear, such as that spinning kick. In that case I will be dodging anyway just to be safer - for some combos you specifically WANT to get witch time before unleashing your wicked weave, as that powers up the ability of the weave to launch enemies. And sometimes you are just fighting and hey, there's an attack tell, you gotta dodge! You want to pay attention to the noises the angels are making - the real secret is that I'm not reading the tells that visually, I'm just listening pretty hard. They give you a lot of warning before they attack, so you can plan your dodges a fair bit making it a lot less stressful to store combos!
@13lake6 жыл бұрын
I see. Thank you lukusridley. That really helps me see it clearer now. It's the first game I've ever started over as soon as I finished, feeling I didn't really play the game the way I should/could have. This was a big help.

The flow feels so slow to me, are you able to cancel out of attacks like DMC?
@tomholt10804 жыл бұрын
Canceling out of attacks is super easy in this game. You just have to dodge. In dmc most of the time you will have to do a guard cancel.
@lukusridley3 жыл бұрын
The reason this looks slow is that most attacks can be held out of - as I'm doing here - delaying the next attack but adding a secondary effect (in this case shooting the shotguns). I'm doing this because holding the buttons is a good way to make dodge offsetting easier, as well as making what your combo is doing more obvious - super helpful when starting out! If you look at what I'm doing here the entire concept of dodge offsetting is an any-time cancel that stores combo position!
