I was a member of the audience when Robeson sang this lullaby at Carnegie Hall in 1958.

Cleveland DaCosta You are one lucky individual! This was from one his most beautiful performances. I never saw Mr. Robeson in person, but have been a fan for many years. If you have time, please view my site for other songs by Mr. R. Sadly, my favorite was recently removed. Thank you so much for writing! Best wishes, varadero

What a wonderful memory that must be. I have admired Mr. Robeson for years, not only for his incredible talents and intellect, but for his moral courage and convictions. Our country persecuted him so unfairly.

Paul's reputation continues to grow, while the fascists who persecuted him are either forgotten or reviled.

@Ronaldomadureira Muito obrigado! Gostaria que o Sr. Robeson ainda estava conosco. Gostaria de enviar a sua mensagem graciosa a ele. Estou muito grato pela sua observação! Por favor, perdoe a minha Português horrível!

People don't understand that until WW II ended, the Communist Party was a viable alternative, with about 1 million members in the U.S., who became disaffected after Stalin came to power. But in the 30s, my father was a Socialist Labor member and was a union organizer for the railroads. Of course that ideology would make sense to a lot more people who had been out of work for 8 years and whose family members were dying left and right out of starvation or suicide. But the war changed all that.

You're welcome! Imagine, being able to cradle your baby in less than the palm of your hand! We are indeed a very fragile, but still ferocious species; we cling to life and make it our own!
