Brilliant! On the chord sung on 'die,' while I was watching this on my mobile, I got a text. It vibrated on the fifth of the chord. It was glorious.

OK, no rotten tomatoes, please, but I've never liked this tune. Despite Billy Joel's fame and obvious genius, this song just didn't grab me. For my taste, it was too repetitive and whenever he sang it, I couldn't understand the words. What on earth did it mean? Now, Dan...fast forward 20 years and I find that I am utterly MESMERIZED by your performance of this piece. How can that be? I think it's because I can understand every word (your enunciation is always particularly clean, which I appreciate!) and for the first time, I realize the genius in the text. Wow. But beyond that, your arrangement and execution are flawless. The dissonant chords elicit just the right amount of delicious pain. It's truly weep-worthy. Really, Dan, I cannot stop listening to this. Thank you for giving it to the rest of the world.

A perfect song for anyone to sing, showing Dan's usual great understanding of his own capability, he brings such good enunciation to his work. The only thing I think that might have improved it would have been four pair of PJ's, instead of winter flannel, but hey.

I've always wanted to have Dan release the individually recorded tracks as separate videos, and then the full edited version.

This is great; I like it. I missed the Billy Joel minor key modulation in the middle.. but it's still good. Am I right in thinking you are doing the arranging here? It may not be your style and probably would be a lot of work to arrange but you should try "Vienna" by Billy Joel, another favorite.

James Newton - "horrible" might be a little strong, don't ya think mate? He's obviously using a bunch of autotune and probably is just starting to learn how to produce but i think there's some potential there if he applies himself. His vocal arrangement is fantastic though!!! If nothing else, Billy Joel needs to see his rendition. Really fresh! Good job Dan!

Would be great if you could check out my cover of this (mine is a King's Singers arrangement). Subscribed anyway - you've covered all the a cappella stuff that I want to cover! haha

"Danwright32? I have a, (maybe), odd, question but very important. First of all... you are brilliantly good. And just to try and quantify the compliment), many years ago (before I got old and sick), I was a singer/songwriter for about 40 years. I play guitar, bass and piano and sang 3-part harmony but certainly never did anything like you do. So again... with that said and more validity... dude you are REALLY good!!!! Is it possible that... if you heard ANY new song and you liked it, (even if you'd never heard it before), you could learn and sing it? AND... would you be willing to try even if it wasn't really written for this (Barbershop Quartet), style? I mean.... you could change it... (i.e. re-arrange it as much as you need to), to fit your style right? The reason I ask... I have a dear friend in Tennessee whose wife is dying of inoperable ovarian cancer. They are just hoping she makes it a little past Christmas for her (now) 18 month old daughter to turn 2. I wrote a love song for them I entitled it "Can you see what I'm saying". It does have some areas with beautiful (regular, country flavored) harmony. If I agree to give you permission to use it (for KZbin and I surely would), would you please let me email it to you so you could hear it and see if you like it and/or if it's something that wouldn't be too much trouble to change to suit your (B Q) style? And I know that.... just because someone says they're a good songwriter, you have no way of knowing for sure that a song is good until you hear it but I assure you... even if this has a melody that's not right ( for your style and is too difficult to rearrange) you will agree it's a pretty decent song, (I'm not one to boast about myself). Please let me know what you think... that is if you get this "note" anytime (relatively) soon? (In advance), I thank you so very much!! Ron the ahteest. :-)
@danwright329 жыл бұрын
+Nummer1Ahteest Hi Ron, I would love to do it, but unfortunately I've (figuratively) hung up my mic. I am no longer recording. I would say to reach out to some other learning track makers/multitrackers. I hope your friend is doing alright.
@Nummer1Ahteest9 жыл бұрын
I do understand and I sincerely thank you for a reply. You could have easily ignored the whole thing. I hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas and blessed and productive new year. Take care and God bless. PS... Nothing to do with me... i.e. NOT because of what I wrote and asked you about... I must say that I am so disappointed to hear you are no longer doing this "One man/multi-track" recording. As you know... (much better than I), with today's amazing technology, it allows people, (like yourself), to really utilize your awesome voice truly as a musical INSTRUMENT... not only able to sing spot on, pitch perfect but such a wide range... from a very believable bass to the perfect high tenor and everything in between. Wow, what a gift. SO... unless you are moving on to bigger and better things (with a singing career and/or LIFE in general), I have to say I'm sad you will not be making these wonderful videos any longer. That said... I wish you the very best in whatever you do.

Technically fantastic. Emotionally horrible. Robotic, monotonous, and unfeeling. This is just me personally, but I would rather hear it sung slightly off key, but with feeling, with pauses, with more variation in the tempo, with dynamic range.
