It is also appalling. Unless the mother is a rescued injured hedgehog recovering, NO ONE has the right to keep them in captivity. They are wild and should stay wild. Neither should monkeys nor apes be kept as pets. It is totally cruel. And illegal in Britain thank goodness. What country is this video?

@@margaretlavender9647 these are african pygmy hedgehogs, also known as four toed hedgehogs. african pygmy hedgehogs were specifically selected from the wild and have been domesticated over many hedgehog generations so that they may be pets. this isn’t a new thing, either-an ancestor of the algerian hedgehog (which is also bred as a domesticated pet) were domesticated by the ancient romans. this mother hedgehog and her hoglets are domesticated animals. if this mother was placed in the wild-specifically in a temperate climate-she would curl up and attempt to hibernate and die, because she cannot regulate her body temperature like her wild cousins. *these are domesticated animals*. they are not wild animals. they would die in the wild if they were just released and allowed to roam; if not from hibernation, then from some sort of predator. do not shame ANYONE for owning and breeding these hedgehogs, because this isn’t just some new thing that no one knows anything about. educate yourself before berating people next time, ok? by the way-the creator of this video is from the philippines, where owning an african pygmy hedgehog and breeding them is completely legal under the correct circumstances. breeding and owning them is also completely legal in the UK. you’re clearly thinking of european hedgehogs, which are an entirely different species from the hedgehogs in this video. european hedgehogs are protected and cannot be kept as pets. the african pygmy hedgehog is NOT the same thing as the european hedgehog. like i said-do your research. don’t be an ass.

I envy you having hedgehogs as natural neighbors! Im in Western Pennsylvania USA; on my property we have a continuing familial line of chipmunks, one or two new generations every year, and several squirrel families, one of which all have striped tails like raccoons! I feed them all and keep watch over them, especially from the local hawks patrolling the sky.

@@ildart8738 this is something I've picked up on since becoming acquainted w 'hogs via the internet. Shame for us! Maybe there's a gang of hoglets that are building a raft for a transatlantic passage to the States as we speak. 🤞
@selenasjournal2 жыл бұрын
@@ildart8738 In the U.S , we actually do keep hedgehogs as pets. They are not as dangerous as you think they are but they are quite the small creatures that people enjoy to take care of. But we cannot adopt a hedgehog from the wild, since it is their habitats, and we cannot capture them due to it's wild habitats. Furthermore, we can adopt hedgehogs from people that raise them in their homes, or pet stores. So in conclusion, we do keep hedgehogs as pets. ( I had a hedgehog once, but he died from cancer in age 3 )

These animals are naturally nocturnal and will hide and borrow from light , Exposure to bright lights may result in blindness !!!! please keep them in dark and black lit rooms!!! Take them for evening walks in the park or back/front yard at leased a few hours for decent recharge. Please research these animals before purchase, housing ,selling.
@meganheartswell9 ай бұрын
I have a hedge hog and no. They do not need to be kept in a dark room. Natural day night cycle is best. My hog sometimes chooses to wake up in the middle of the day to run in her wheel. That being said do not shine a bright light like a flashlight in hog, animal or persons face. I would not reccomend letting them loose outside unless you have them in a fence they are incredibly fast and it's easy to loose one. Do not use a leash on your hog it can be dangerous and possibly kill them.

Better let your mother hedgehog do the thing. Just give her high quality cat food, mealworms and lots of water. For the hoglets, you can serve crushed cat food only when they're 3-4 weeks old.
