OK this is how this goes. Original version from 1930's had only the chorus "you are gonna miss me ..." and it was done by J.E Mariner's Mountaineers. Lulu and the Landshapes added onto this song with additional verses " I got a ticket for the..". Then there were several versions of video. One particularly version by Anna Burden became instantly popular (in my opinion the best). This version was spotted by Anna Kendrick who adopted it in pitch perfect.

It was originally done by the Mainers Mountaineers, but there have been a few adaptions since. I think Lulu and the Lampshades were the ones who first incorporated the cup.

Anna Kendrick sang it as a cover in Pitch Perfect, but Lulu and the Lampshades made the original. The cup trick is from the 50's 60's (my mother used to play it in grade school), and the chorus was from the 30's. Now that that's all cleared up, everyone shut up and enjoy. The song is good no matter where you first heard it, and lesbihonest, I can see your toners through your jeans.

Incorrect. It was written by Alvin Pleasant Delaney Carter and then performed by the Carter Family in 1931. Mainers Mountaineers did a remake of the song in 1937. Countless others have since then made other remakes of this song.

Lulu and The Lampshades are not the original composers either. They just sang it. It was written by A.P. Carter in 1931 and originally sung by The Carter Family. There have been quite a few covers. Lulu and The Lampshades are just the ones responsible for adding the cup thing (which is actually a children's game) to it.
